Thanks!! My wife calls it "OCD and it needs to stop". I guess I went overboard but once I started, I couldn't stop until it was like new.

Good morning Ken, just wanted to pick your brain. I am restoring my Virago 1000 and need some nuts & bolts. A stock exhaust and other odds and ends. Would it be worth my time purchasing a 1100 Virago and trying to match the parts or are the 1000 and 1100 to different in your opinion? Any info is great, keep up the great video series. I am loving what you did with bringing the gold trim back to life!

Thanks Derek!! I feel your pain - but yes - buying an 1100 or even in your case, a 700/750 will give you many common parts. Double check this, but I believe the exhaust system is the same on all Viragos. You still have to be careful with things like fork tubes - your 1000 has the air crossover tube and I think that was eliminated by 1989 or so. 1100 Ignition modules won't work on your 1000 and the clutch is completely different too. But when I scrounge for parts, I cross reference 750/1100 part numbers with the 1000 and find a lot of it is the same.

How has it held up after a year? I’m about to purchase everything however the Createx website says that the UVLS gloss can’t be used as an automotive top coat. Did you use an additional product to seal it?

Great question. I used a 2K clear (special aerosol can) over the Createx colors just for that reason. The 2K clear is solvent based urethane - the standard in automotive finishes. It's usually mixed 4:1 with a hardener but more recently you can get 2K clear in an aerosol can. Good thing is you can get it in gloss, matte or satin. I waited a full day for the createx clear to dry completely before I painted the final 2K urethane clear top coat. A year later it still looks freshly painted.

Which red would you recommend? 4663 Red Oxide or 4650 Blood red?
