There were 11 children and 7 chaperones. Nowhere in this story did they say there were behavioral issues. Just because they’re special needs, you can’t just assume they were unruly.

    •  2 дня назад +4

      I can assume
I've got a special needs child. And my other daughter works with autistic kids. The school should have had 1 to 1 staffing
Whats more people are sick of paying high prices to eat out. And forced to listening to a bunch of noise. From kids and adults at this point. Because some of y'all don't know how to act in public.

Depends on what the whole context is...but obviously they are apologizing so were wrong. They are allowed to refuse service though....idk what the proof has to be in regard to prejudice vs refusal of service....but I generally believe businesses should be allowed that. I have a severe special needs child too and it sucks to be judged like that and mistreated but other businesses can pick up the slack.
I love Disney because they have a great system for people with ASD. Many are upset because they misunderstand it...but it beats Universal etc. Even the zoo can be too much. Disney could ALSO do better (more designated calm/decompress spaces) but they do the best of anyone.

It’s honestly funny that everybody is commenting on this. I was there when this bus full of hooligans pulled up they were denied service because the what you say special needs but as anybody in Saint Charles County knows alternative school kids. Came in there started destroying the stuff inside the gift store. Children were stealing literally acting like a flash mob. The manager asked them to leave, but was nice enough to allow the teacher to order a to go order instead of getting the police involved if I was the manager, I would’ve filed charges on everyone, including one of the teachers aids who stuck five Hershey candy bars and almost a whole box of clove, chewing gum in her pocket inside of the gift store now here’s the thing we have what’s called storekeepers law in Maryland. We have the right to deny anyone’s service, especially when they come in destroying property and stealing and yet you all wanna cry crybaby about this.

The restaurant is not a training facility. Frankly, of late, nobody seems to expect any child to behave in public.

    • @ari3lz3pp
      @ari3lz3pp 4 дня назад +8

Businesses should be allowed to refuse service, BUT ...They apologized and it's heavily insinuated that the kids were well behaved. There's a massive difference between being poorly behaved and making people uncomfortable.
I agree most kids are not guided anymore, ironically that's what they are trying to do with kids that have a hard time during normal hours (when most parents take the time to go). ASD and similar can make it extremely difficult if not impossible to absorb information in busier environments or where they can't have "supports".
Cracker Barrel has a right to not permit that, but I do hope most people stop going for principal. There's also a line between discrimination and just refusing service because it's genuinely interrupting business in an objectively provable way.
My children behave better than most, even one with ASD and ADHD. It's because my husband and I homeschool and we hold ourselves accountable for what they do. They aren't adults. Most parents don't pay attention until they get embarrassed by others (which seems to hardly happen) then the cycle continues...best to be preventative and caring. Otherwise the kids DGAF.
Either way, we don't take our kid to restaurants, we don't have caretakers we trust so we can't go to restaurants. It's not a necessity obviously...but it does feel like crap that we can't be accommodated with space and patience enough to feel it's worth it.
We've been places with an outdoor patio so we don't have to be a nuisance and can relax a tiny bit at least.....and often we are so terribly judged for letting him sit on the ground (where the waiters etc are not supposed to be), or that he is vocally stimming (which we work to limit if loud). It is when it's the middle of the week day and the restaurant has low traffic...yet we are judged. Not something we want to spend money on.
Not to mention our child isn't getting food exposure when we have to be warehoused to another part of the restaurant everytime...the training int he community as a group is an excellent idea. It's best for the entire community because the kids are more likely to get a grasp on the behavior and to be less of a nuisance in the future.
Unfortunately many people are too ignorant and close minded and privileged to understand.

When was this previous visit? What was the behavior that they exhibited that was so untoward that they were allowed back? Who were the children involved? Since it's "a load of crap, and is obviously based on their behavior from a previous visit," and you should know all of this, because only a load of crap, would just lie on a bunch of special needs children...so of course you must have 1st hand knowledge of these children at this restaurant... right?

My husband works OT and we homeschool so we have much more community exposure than we did during public school or even charter schools because we can prioritize it, BUT I still need help to do so. He's my size and when he's having a panic-attack style meltdown it's not easy.
Too bad we don't have groups like that out here, and it's pathetic and establishment like that would refuse them
...unless we are missing details. Restaurants are too expensive (even such as Cracker Barrel) for us to risk that it's going to be a bad experience so we haven't tried much since we had before. It's something most parents take for granted. (No we don't have anyone trustworthy to babysit). Our child is sadly more well behaved than most NT kids anymore but unlike many we aren't going to just relax and ignore our kids when they act up....our ASD son doesn't mean to "act up" but can be a nuisance even so, just being super happy or confused can cause disruption.
So I get not wanting them in the space if it's crowded or something...but sounds like no one was in danger and it was a less busy part of the day. Will be interesting to learn more.

What does that have to do with the price of tea in China??? The school has a community partnership with various businesses, which should’ve previously been presented to the business for management approval. You obviously didn’t listen to what was being reported. They had a staff of (7) to assist with supervising the (11) children, which was more than sufficient enough coverage for supervision. This is something they obviously commonly do within the community. If they were unable to safely manage the group of children, then they wouldn’t be taking the risk with having the children out in public. The bottom line is Cracker Barrel’s discriminated against these children because first they didn’t want to be bothered with serving them, and second, a group of kids wouldn’t be the greatest tip advantage. Lastly they would have to actually do some work to serve a large party. Either way, this was handled poorly.

I also support them for that other demographic they allegedly discriminated against, because we all know what they're like in restaurants. I'm also way past tired of hearing that the entire world needs to cater and bow down before your underevolved potted-plant of a child who will--let's be fully honest--never be self-supporting or functional in society, and will do nothing their entire lives but suck up public resources. Parents of these special snowflakes live to get in front of cameras so they can harrumph about what the public "owes" them and their defective kids. Funny how they never owe us anything in return.

Actually if you are supervising special need children and they are not able to be behaved in a social environment then you have to accommodate by the childs needs by taking the to a restaurant with play areas etc where they can keep their minds focused on something they enjoy or you order out and bring the food back to your organization. Cracker barrel offers nothing to occupy the minds of any child special needs or not. I have worked with many children with autism and other disabilities you schedule their day to suit their needs not yours.
