I think they genuinely tried to have someone who knew how funny trump was by being himself, which is something Shane has said and probably did say on his audition. I don’t blame SNL for doing what they did, I think they gave the kahuna a shot but didn’t realize what the backlash would be

@@jyo9735 it’s a weird dynamic that just doesn’t make sense. Imagine writing a joke that isn’t just clean, but aligns with the company’s DEI statement and ESG goals. Then your own company makes a remote that has a button that you can press and say, “RUclips, Norm McDonald.” And your competing with Norm, the most canceled man in the universe.
Their only saving grace is the drama geek stuff. They can get a celebrity who can sing while doing backflips. They can expose talentless hacks from Hollywood. They have a costume budget.., and the writing environment, while it produces hot garbage, seems to be like a boot camp for training young wild people on how to write a script that can actually get made after they leave SNL, or how to write fluff that will get their kids medical insurance.
