Manneken Pis has as many "costumes" as Barbie has "outfits". Both Manneken Pis and Barbie are equally confident in their many identities. Both have made many exemplary contributions to their communities.
Fun little side note: The dutch city of Den Bosch has a similar (but much younger) statue called Dieske. The story behind it is of a young boy peeing into the canal, when he noticed some rustling in the reeds. He warned the cities guards of it and turned back an invasion of Gelderse troops. It is probably all BS, just like Manneken Pis, but why debate it. Every city needs its own story of a little boy whipping out his willie.
Kansas City also has a pissing boy fountain on the Country Club Plaza and I always wondered about where that idea came from. I assume it's a tribute to this one. PS KC calls itself "The City of Fountains" and also "The Paris of the Plains".

It's not a "lesser known attraction" ahah, it's one of (if not the one) the most famous monuments in Belgium. There is a museum and tones of touristic shops with every single object you can imagine turned into a manneken pis ahah
I love this so much. We have similarly quirky statues in Ireland, and I just love that there seems to be a universal desire to preserve and decorate little things like this across countries and cultures. Like people rubbing the noses of animal statues for good luck, it seems to be a thing everywhere. What a strange species we are.

I loved it, just got to say that Charleroi is in Belgium tho :)
Crazy - love the origin stories!
So cool!
We were there in 1997. Took a pic with it! Love Belgium. Stayed in Namur almost 8 weeks.
I was there last month, really didn’t know what it was for until now, thank you great video

Animal Crossing needs to bring that statue back.

I remember this guy in line to see it say "the Netherlands has cheese, we have a pissing baby being the pride of our country"
Where exactly is this statue in Brussels?
Hey nice, I enjoy visiting these lesser known attractions. A good way to really the area you’re visiting.

I don't think I knew that was a copy. Thanks for the info.
You're welcome!
It is ideal as a symbol of Brussels because the city has a long history of self-deprecating humour and unseriousness ('zwans').
I thought he put out a towns fire
The mascot of my team, Botafogo F.R! 🤍🖤
God bless Manneken Pis
