    Awesome panel. Love the three pane design...the simplicity of the center panel design and that border is sublime. Any chance you could share a mini scale sketch of this work. I would be willing to pay for any repro costs associated. I have a 48" x 48" center window in a newly installed bay window cluster for which this design would be spectacular. Also looking for a challenging winter glass build project...been looking at FLR ideas and Prarie style but yours just grabbed my attention.

    • @GommStainedGlass
      @GommStainedGlass  Год назад +1

      They are pretty easy designs. One thing we've done is to view a video on a tv screen and pause it where we wanted to copy. Then we trace the image. This is how we did a copy of the stained glass from the Santa Claus 2

    Wondered how the Alder frame rails and stiles were attached. Couldn't see the joinery. Just glue and maybe corrugated joint fasteners? Looked pretty solid. Also I reviewed your V295 vid. and saw the design line drawing... exactly what I was asking for in my last entry.. Thanks so much. I now have my winter '23 project.

    • @GommStainedGlass

      Hope all goes well. when we got to the install, Greg took a sander to one edge to get it to fit even better. The joinery was glue and nails.

      @@GommStainedGlass Thanks for the information
      My version will be in a 44.5" square window space. I am considering constructing the design as a single pane rather than the three panels you folks created. I think the size is right on the cusp of " too large " to be stable. Possibly OK with thoughtfully placed restrip and some chunky perimeter copper channel. I'be been sketching it out on paper and I think the space is too small to accommodate the design and the two extra frame rails for a three pane install. Your thoughts?

  • @thomascolley5912

    This is a beautiful window. Beautiful job. Just wondering if you put any sort of rebar supports on it any where?

    • @GommStainedGlass
      @GommStainedGlass  2 года назад

      We never use rebar since we only do the copper foil method. So we use restrip which fits down in-between the solder joint. Since the three panels are small, they are fine with silicone holding them in the wooden frame.

    Absolutely gorgeous work of art!! I am particularly intrigued by your centered, clam shell like medallion in the center panel! I am in the process of trying to come up with a color scheme for a centered large medallion in a large piece as well. I was just going to use a black opaque glass but after seeing yours I was struck by its beauty. How did you decide on the color combinations? Thank you

    • @GommStainedGlass
      @GommStainedGlass  3 года назад

      Jeanne worked directly with the client who came to our studio and the two of them went through our existing glass inventory. They thought about all the color choices and tried many palate changes. When got those that we ended with, they were sure. There was a lot of glass to put back and re-file after they were done!😀

    • @GommStainedGlass
      @GommStainedGlass  3 года назад

      It just teaches us that you have to have a large glass inventory so that you can have those choices as you do a complex design.

  • @marysue6951
    @marysue6951 Год назад

    WOW. That was pretty spectacular. My only question is, what/how did you do the final anchor once the window was in place? 1/4 round?

    • @GommStainedGlass
      @GommStainedGlass  Год назад +1

      Glass Doctor helped with the install and the frame fit so tightly that we just used silicone to hold the assembly in place. It looked perfect!

  • @barbarab202
    @barbarab202 3 года назад

    When adding this to an exterior window, how do you deal with the temperature differential and preventing condensation inbetwen the stained glass and the actual window glass? Doyou have air holes in the frame?

    • @GommStainedGlass
      @GommStainedGlass  3 года назад +1

      When we install a panel, it's almost always against an insulated unit so there's little temperature variation. When it's a fairly small panel I will often leave a gap in the caulking to allow slight air flow to minimize condensation. The large frame in the video had so much square footage that air flow was pretty good and the frame wasn't sealed tight so the unit breathes.

  • @SCOARTGLASS
    @SCOARTGLASS 3 года назад

    Did you use re-strip in these windows since they are so large? or because they are framed in there would be no need? I have not done any windows this large yet and just want to be prepared when or if I am ever asked to.

    • @GommStainedGlass
      @GommStainedGlass  3 года назад

    I thought I saw one of the jewels going to the edge. Do you have any trick for dealing with the raised glass when it is substantially thicker in a small spot when putting on the zinc?

    • @GommStainedGlass
      @GommStainedGlass  3 года назад

      If I have a raised edge, I simply widen that part of the zinc a little extra so that it fits over. I had to make all of the zinc edge wider since the solder went rint up to the edge, rather than staying away like we usually do.

      We hired Glass Doctor to help us with the install and the truck came with him. We use Glass Doctor on most of our major installs. They know how to handle glass and we trust them. Many times, we'll take art glass to another studio to have the tempered glass applied to the unit and then Glass Doctor will pick up and install the completed unit. This frees us up to keep building glass pieces in the studio and takes away a lot of stress from us.❄
