  • In October 1992, the UK's Conservative trade secretary Michael Heseltine announced that 31 of the 50 remaining deep coal mines would be shut down. This caused outrage on the left, and to some extent among Tories in the leafy town of Hexham, Northumberland. I taped this edition of the BBC's North of Westminster show because I'd been working three months as a junior reporter on the Hexham Courant, featured in the report. It's a glimpse of how local newspapers used to be produced!
