It's literally midnight and this video single handedly gave me a spark of motivation to do a whole painting right now. Just goes to show how this man and his art is so amazing.
I found your channel about a month ago and I swear I watch like 20 videos of your every day. I love your videos and your art so much! Also, you NEED to do a whole drawing left handed!!
I’m a left handed artist and was really cool and unexpected when you started drawing with your left hand. Thank you for all of your advice! I love storytelling with my art. ❤️
just starting my first artist journal and this is a big help. I'm skilled enough at creating art, but panelling and the composition surrounding it was never my strong suit, so I usually stick to A5 when attempting journals and just creating small pieces. just starting in A4 and this is a big help for my confidence - here's hoping it works out! gradually working larger scale and it's going well so far
Sometimes I’m really not sure I’m ever going to be a good artist, but your videos always make me feel better. Thanks for making art feel more attainable.
Tbh, ive been drawing since age 10(im 23 now) but i still feel like i have so much to learn about just enjoying my art again. Ive been in a longterm art block since 2020 and its been rough, but slowly i know ill regain that love and your videos inspire me to just reapply myself to learning techniques again. Thank you
Thank you for this good, important reminder! I’ve recently taken up drawing/painting as a hobby and I’m starting to realize that I really only get motivated to create when the subject is meaningful in some way. It’s not all about aesthetics. 😊
This is so inspiring. I keep wanting to compare my art to everyone else to see if it's any good, when I should be focused on my own journey. Thank you so much.
My good sir , your quote about drawing everything to improve your drawing was one of those quotes that inspired me to keep writing stories ! This one was even more fitting because it is actually talking about stories ! My stories don’t have to be good yet , but what’s important is that I keep writing !
you're the art dad we all need, even those of us who already have art dad haha my artworks really lack basic techniques or understanding of where colours and shadows go, but dad never critiques the lack of them in those drawings that have some story going on, so you're spot on!
Thank you for all of your encouragement! I am glad to see that you got to visit my favorite museum- National Cowboy Hall of Fame (National Western Heritage Museum). I recognized the End of the Trail statue in your journal. Much love from Oklahoma!
This is actually something that I’m really insecure about with my art is that I lack storytelling and I just don’t know how because I’m just not as creative as most other artists. I feel like my brain just won’t let me imagine anything new or creative and all my art looks stiff. I’m young and I know I have lots of time to figure out how to storytell but sometimes it just feels impossible. I know I’ll get it someday though and your videos always inspire me to learn more!
You just spoke to me through this video since today I have been feeling non confident in drawing since I was debating and thinking real hard of either doing writing or drawing for comics but you just helped me settle this with this single video and that I should draw out stories!
This is actually a really good exercise for your brain! Not just drawing, but doing any common task with your non-dominant hand like brushing your teeth, is a brain work-out! Good job. 🙂
i honestly quit expressing myself for so long out of this agonizing fear that i would never be "good enough" or just the rage and frustration that came with not feeling like my art was perfect or beautiful or whatever it would be, but you have really inspired me and you have no idea how important this message is to share. thank you for this, you worded it perfectly. my 2023 goal will be to draw more and just focus on having fun and story telling :)
hi scott i just wanted to say thank you so much for really helping keep me motivated and optimistic about my art. its really easy to forget why i got into drawing and why i love it and what really matters but you consistently manage to remind me.
I love this channel. It not only encourages people who make paintings, drawings, sketches, etc, but it also encourages different kinds of artists on here like poets, writers, fashion designers, musicians, etc. I like to write poetry sometimes but occasionally I get caught up in how my poetry is supposed to sound that I forget what I want to say through it. Watching this channel reminds me that I write my poetry for myself and not the people on the internet or the people around me.
I recently started carrying a sketchbook around on my way to work so I can sketch in the train and mostly don't have a whole lot of ideas - but sometimes I draw the stories I hear in my podcasts or songs and those are my favourite drawings, no matter how bad and shaky (trains.. yeah) they turn out xD
Exactly why I am such a huge fan of tatsuki fujimoto...his art is not the absolute peak(compared to miura and takehiko inoue) but his storytelling ability in his mangas are just inspiring and always makes me hooked to the story.
I always draw where I am in my notebook, whether it be the park, my class, my house wherever! It’s fun and helps me remember things easier due to the fact that I have memory issues
This was actually really interesting to see. And actually made me more confident. I've heard a few times that it matter more to just draw than to do stuff perfect. And this really sends that idea home. It's honestly something I knew because of how famous the Mangaka for one punch man is for making a hilarious story that is drawn poorly, I just didn't want to acknowledge for the longest time that I'm not as good as I think I am. Funnily enough I'm left handed when it comes to drawing. I was born ambidextrous and can do most things with both hands but drawing I only do with my left hand. Apparently when I was younger before my family started trying to make me choose one hand for most things I would just switch hands constantly while drawing, pretty much one hand would get tired and I'd swap. Kinda makes sense, cuz when I box I'm a southpaw but can switch to orthodox. Honestly if it wasn't for my family thinking being ambidextrous made me more likely to develop dyslexia I'd probably be able to do everything equally well with both hands still.
My brother really wants to get into art. He loves drawing comics of his characters but then gets upset when he sees my art. It's so hard to tell him that I started exactly where he is. I hope he doesn't quit and he gets better than me one day!
Im left handed and I love drawing but often let myself down I am really inspired of your art this vid helps me realize that I don't need to be perfect on doing art it is all about what we can really do ;]
Me being a left handed young artist...left handed people go through so manyy difficulties but the best part is how we tackle and overcome those problems 😌 like smudging, the ring journals' rings.. it is all so painful aaghhh 😩
This is soo true according to my observation. Not to be conceited but i have seen some artists who are bit lacking in technique and skills but BUT they have like a huge following in social media and that is because they apply storytelling in their artworks especially if the drawing is for a certain fandom.
This really inspires me. I used to draw a lot almost a year ago, but then I was diagnosed with a cancer in my right arm that somehow limits my movements. The only thing is: I am left-handed. So basically, I stopped drawing mostly because I lost the motivation while battling the disease. Everything that I draw isn't as beautiful or creative as before, and it frustrastes me a lot. But after seeing your videos and and hearing you telling me that even the most humble stick figure can be art, I feel kinda of motivated again. Thank you Scott for brightening my day.
During that time i just drew whatever, not caring about how the art looked at the end (a long time ago), I can confirm the whole point was to tell a story (in a good and also maybe not ideal way thats how I filled up 3 sketchbooks and kept my passion to draw
This is really helpful, cuz like I’ve got story chunks bouncing around but I’m so stuck on perfection, maybe I should draw my sketches left handed? Something to think about
I love your content and your advice is so good I don't have to feel really bad my art being so bad the device that you give is really good to really young artists and beginners 👍
Story telling is so important in art. I was listening to a song and boom in my head popped memories of old road trips near yeehaw junction and other parts of Florida so I decided to make something out of it. It's chaotic with about 20 different mediums on one page, but I'm so happy I made it.
I’m an art major and I just want to say I love your channel, especially your Studying the Masters series. Your ability to fill sketchbooks so quickly fills me with both inspiration and envy. My biggest struggle as an artist is just finding the motivation to draw in the first place. Right now I basically only do any art if it’s for class purposes. Do you have any tips on creating a routine out of drawing?
this is inspiring, i’m gonna try this with my left hand
…oh wait, i’m left handed
;0

*me peacefully replying to this comment, even though I'm not even left handed*
Same here

i’m left handed, just try this for long and you’ll see what we have to go through. the smudges are SUCH a big pain
Ikr😭
FRRRR AND I END UP RUINING THE ENTIRE DRAWING
I’m right handed and have faced this problem with writing 💀.
A way to a void it is just to not let your rist touch the paper.
right hand or left hand we both Smudge while drawing. its not like writing where you write left to right. you don't have to draw left to right hahaha
Yup
Internet art dad over here inspiring me to pick up a sketchbook for the first time in 2 years... I'm not crying, you are.
I swear this man has the ultimate unspoken rizz with his expressions
I literally had to look up "rizz".
Thanks so much! ♥
@@ssavaartso did I 🥲
@ssavaart haha! It's basically just Charisma

I’m a left handed artist and was really cool and unexpected when you started drawing with your left hand. Thank you for all of your advice! I love storytelling with my art. ❤️
I always felt like art is expressing a feeling. It isn't the best definition but the best I could get to.
I love that you teach so much in your videos. It’s not just about “look what I can do!”
OMG that wink was soooo cute! My heart melted! What an icon 👏

Proof that you've been training your eyes and not just your hand
I cannot express how much you've helped me be happy with my art. I wish everyone made me feel this way. Thank you🙏
This is so inspiring. I keep wanting to compare my art to everyone else to see if it's any good, when I should be focused on my own journey. Thank you so much.
It is really uplifting to see an artist where you can see he struggles drawing with his left hand.
Ur right. Those left handed pages are charming in a way

Bravo!

As a new becoming artist I needed to hear that
This needs to be shown to every single human who has dreamt of being able to make art
Scott is that cool art teacher that everyone wants to learn from

I love this man. He's like my guidance through all try steps I need for some reason
I love that you drew the line through the dog's head and erased it, like you did with the paitingin!
And everything, will be all RIGHT!🤣 That cracked me up!
this is true inspiration, love the encouragement, Scott!

Doing this with my right hand would be super tough since I'm a lefty. But, props to you for giving it a shot
hi scott i just wanted to say thank you so much for really helping keep me motivated and optimistic about my art. its really easy to forget why i got into drawing and why i love it and what really matters but you consistently manage to remind me.
your left hand drawing is how i draw without reference photos 😭
Love the little meerkat in the journal!!
this actually made me feel a lot better thank you 😊
You are probably the most inspiring artist ever. you helped improve and become better
Thank you 😊

Not only a wonderful artist-but so wholesome…he always presents these concepts in a way that encourages artistry at any level. Love him so much 💕🎨🖌

Geez your puns gets me every time 😂😂😂
That pun was perfect
The way you draw with your left hand it’s exactly like how I draw! 😢
I loved the tiger, he's got a slight little goofy smile 😆
This reminds me of RDR2, where Arthur was an amazing artist while John was just learning to sketch
Thank you for making us braver 😀

Idk why but I kinda see you as an uncle in a way. It makes me wanna try, even if it won't turn out the way I want it to.

The fact that his drawings while left handed are 100 times better than mine 😔✊️

For me, it's posting online. Knowing I've made a PUBLIC commitment to make art every day helps.
Also... having a theme helps too.
I really love your art. And your handwriting
Thank you very much!
