  • Just 24, volleyball player Paola Egonu dominates the sport with records for highest jump, fastest serve and spike speed.
    A three-time European champion and Tokyo Olympics flag-bearer, Egonu's success has generated a debate about identity and race. Born in Italy to Nigerian parents, her Italian nationality has faced constant scrutiny, leading her to call out her country’s issues with race.
    As she returns to Italy after a season playing in Turkey, Egonu discusses her journey and mission to drive change in women's sports and in Italian society with host Iman Amrani. Egonu's accomplishments defy boundaries and inspire transformation in her sport and nation.

    i only idolize 3 volleyball players.. mireya luis, the player of the century regla torres (both of cuba), and paola egonu. for me, they are the holy trinity of volleyball. who's yours?

    • @goodbyestranger6824
      @goodbyestranger6824 10 месяцев назад

      Regla Torres was an absolute champion but I think she received the award as player of the century due to the fact that two outside hitters had already been nominated in the men's volley and awarding a outside hitter also in women's volleyball would have been excessive.
      Otherwise I think they would have nominated Mireya Luis as player of the century.
      Obviously this is simply my opininon, not else.

    Paola is such a grounded, strong and talented player. THAT can't never be denied. Greater things are coming her way for sure, her stardom is just beginning. It's amazing to see how she's using her own platform and power to speak about her struggles navigating life in a European nation. congratulations on all your achievements Paola. 🤩🙌👏

    This is what happens when you go to a country that doesn’t want you.
    Africans leaders should work on developing their own countries.
    The disease of racism isn’t going to go away. Individuals may choose not to be racist but the crowd will never be rid of it.

      Racism will lose strength and eventually disappear in my opinion. I mean, if we compare now with 50 years ago a lot changed, guess what will happen in the next 50 years.
      Btw, I am white Italian, and I love Egonu ❤
