    Thanks Petr, I really gotta learn to tie that bait loop!!

      That knot will change your fishing life lol. Watch egg loop knot video and do 10-20 wraps depending on bait/hook size and lock those in with 5-6 wraps then pull tight.

      practice a bit with a big hook and some heavy line. There are plenty of good tutorial videos out there. I tie a super simple Snell knot, then just slide it down the hook a little for the bait loop. No need to complicate it.

      Tie them at home. I like to use my fly tying vise to help holding the hook... good luck fishing guys!

    Cool 😎 Summer steelhead run (skamania) Southern lake Michigan. They like shrimp. Wasn't sure what size hook or how to hook. 👍👍

    I was always curious that if your line gets all twisted from the shrimp spinning, would it significantly weaken your line? I mean even those triple barrel swivels I use don’t prevent all of the twist. I’ve never had a problem with it snapping while brining in a fish but some people have mentioned to me that it does weaken your line if it’s really twisted. I don’t know, maybe my line wasn’t twisted up enough for it to be weakened. What do you think Petr, have you ever ran into that problem?

    • @petrhermanadventures9509
      @petrhermanadventures9509  3 года назад +1

      I don't think it weakens the line, unless it's so twisted that you get kinks in it. Mostly a line has a lot of twist in it gets hard to cast. Fishing shrimp like this they don't always spin in the same direction, so overall I don't get much twist. But sometimes I put one on that has a lot of spin to it and it does mess things up a bit. There are some things you can do to get rid of the twist, like letting out the line into heavy current with nothing on the end, or running it through a cloth a few times.

      I've found that using a chain swivel instead of a barrel swivel between the main line and leader helps to significantly reduce line twist, both when drifting and fighting a fish.

      As long as you use maxima line instead of that flourocarbon shit your line won't break.

    I use them with the shell also and i use the tails also...You would be surprised how many guys have told me I will never catch a steelhead with shells on my prawns I just laugh...they also say steelhead wont bite the tails lololo.

      I got a nice hatchery doe for the boxing day derby, and nothing since then. Probably the longest stretch I've gone without even hooking into one.

    is that a drifting setup i spy Petr? has the struggle lately inspired you to try a different method?

    • @petrhermanadventures9509
      @petrhermanadventures9509  3 года назад

      I'm not entirely sure what you mean by drifting setup. I kind of float fish the same way all the time, but I use different reels depending on how the mood strikes me. Do you mean like drifting down the river? I've been thinkin lately I should try that in my white water kayak.

      I only bottom bounced my first year on the river, till I figured out why it's not the right technique for here.

    YEAH GREAT, YOU HAVE the SHRIMP SWIMMING BACKWARDS ! U PUT ON WRONG WAY !!! HEAD FIRST, NOT TAIL FIRST

      Have you ever actually seen a shrimp swim? They swim backward. Either way, the steelhead don't seem to care.

      I had an awesome steelhead season this year, hooked about 50 fish, landed 27. About half of them were caught on some sort of shrimp variation, shrimp and bead, shrimp with jig, shrimp piece, whole shrimp, etc.

      @@petrhermanadventures9509 Oh wow, thank you Petr. Would you bother with shrimp for the upcoming season for springs and coho?

    • @petrhermanadventures9509
      @petrhermanadventures9509  5 месяцев назад

      @@eeeffert6042 I use roe and beads, sometimes jigs. Some people use shrimp and do well, it's just one thing that I haven't experimented with. Rod Toth used a lot of shrimp before he got into the bead manufacturing business.

      I fished cooked shrimp my first year, and it produced some steelhead. Then I convinced myself that raw shrimp are more natural and so the fish should like them better. Me average production has stayed the same since I switched, so I am thinking the fish like both equally.
