Night shift is a great place to be a new Medic. You get to jump calls for 24 hr units, run weird, exciting calls, and make (hopefully) most of your “new medic mistakes” while everyone else is sleeping. Also a great opportunity for proper shenanigans...good times
Really good overnight tip is to keep to your schedule even when you're off duty. It's way healthier for you. Deli sandwiches are great, but contain tons of salt. Not everything needs ketchup. And unless you don't have a choice, such as those that are stuck out on the streets all night, bring your own bedding. It gives you a sense of home and just might make the plastic hard-ass bed feel a little bit more comfy.
+Tai Lee I’ve never really been able to have a consistent sleep schedule. I’ve tried but it usually falls apart when there’s something to do during the day
Hey buddy, I work as an EMT 12 hours nights and it has definitely took a toll on my sleeping schedule and just life basically. I gotten used to it and there are definitely pros and cons. What I like is being able to drive and there are no traffic and people in the streets. Great video.
The thing I found about working nights is that the common conception from the day walkers is that you sleep in a fire house in between the "2" calls you do at night. No matter how often I explained to my family that I'm up all night even if I'm just waiting on a corner for the next call they still act surprised or upset when I fall asleep at the wheel at 2pm picking them up from school.
More coffee count me in! Lol no I am a violin teacher for children. I am going to EMS school in case my students have an emergency I can know how to talk to the EMS ns firefighters and so I can be the first to be their for my students. Love the videos man thank you so much for the info!
I have worked every kind of shift in many different places. It's all about your partner(s). They will make or break your sanity. That being said, I think nights is a young person's shift. You can roll with it easier and you're more likely to adapt as a younger person.
I’ve had my share of bad partners and the DREAD of coming to work was so stressful. Do you think the night tour is a young persons game more because they have less home responsibilities or because they just physically adapt better?? 🤔🤔.
Oh, nature valley bars are great, but the ultimate chunk of food for the bag to forget til you're starving and getting hit back to back to back is Payday. Durable af and good energy, no chocolate to melt and if it gets crushed it just sticks to itself. Plus you can take it to a school as a WMD because of the peanuts!
Kudos to 9 years. I did 5 years on the night shift. Upside is availability for errands or appointments in the day before I go to sleep. Never had to take a day off for those things.
I met you in the academy .. cool dude you need to make more videos towards fids a lot of interns are constantly made .... also how do you recommend we set up our kits ... radio strap vs belt strap .... i have some ideas for your channel !!!!
Before I worked nights I wouldn't ever tried 7 11 food. But it became one of my staples. I lived in Boston, there was some good restaurants in Chinatown that I sometimes treat myself to on payday. One stayed open till 2am.
The only thing in your bag I dont have in mine is the tide pen... gmta... do need a new battery pack, all mine are pretty useless... you dont have an actual USB adapter for the cords, I bring a bluetooth to fm adapter for the front of the bus and a 6 foot extension cord I plug in the inverter to just run everything off wall plugs.
Always perferred nights! From vollying to private to now 911 my one relief is this year im working christmas eve into the day and when i get out christmas morning im on a 3 day swing off!
Awesome video Randy love the channel btw man. As far as the 12 hour overnights go I've only been doing them for 2 years but for the most part I've found somewhat of a balance. I normally get tired around 12-3am but I try my best to stay up so that I can fall asleep easier when I get home. Also cool bag I need to get me one of those!
@@RescueRandy 3am to 5am are the falls and the walls are closing in. 6 am are the early birds getting the day started and then comes 9am it's all balls to the walls.
"Way less people." In general, I'm with ya Brotha, but some nights it's a damn marathon...like the past two nights. lol! Really enjoying your videos. I'm gonna go try and catch up on some zzzz's.
If it wasn’t for working the overnight I never would have found out that I’m allergic to the sun.
+MrGhettomedic I drive home everyday singing blinded by the light lol

6:18 "and a pocket face mask... not that you'll ever use it, but just in case" oh that aged well lmfao
I was about to say the same thing
Lol I meant in the sense you won’t really be doing mouth to mask ventilations

That little mask must come in handy now! Great video!
Thanks!

+EM Photo Studios yeah it’s a tough gig. You wonder if they think that so they feel better. No one expects people to actually work at night
This man said BSI Scene safety ahhh😂😂 eat sleep breath EMS
Haha! It’s the language of our people!
Damn right brotha!😂

Many fine EMS workers are musicians. Coincidence? I think not 🤘😈

I'm in school and looking forward to overnights when I get my NREMT cert, night owl and all that.
I have a to go kit too in my bag.. love the overnights
And what fancy stuff are you carrying? I’m always updating and changing my little kit

There's always 7-eleven at night 😂

I keep an inverter in my car if I need it but that little battery pack does the job. I have a way bigger one that will last the week easy
Before you promote the tide pens, give them a sniff. That smell does not work in enclosed spaces for a prolonged period of time.

Nights are amazing but sleeping like a regular person is kinda awesome too. Too bad you can’t flip back and forth to have some sense of normalcy

Bro what’s salary in us for emt? How long people should study for it?
Depends in what state. It varies. EMT class is roughly 3-4 months
