Another fantastic trapping video as always Trevor. I have never caught white point or straw underwing and I’m yet to see a (live) great diving beetle. I did catch my first ever bordered straw earlier in the week which I was very pleased with. Take care, Maxwell.
Hey Trevor, great video as always! I felt the thing you mentioned with hornets, recently I had 19 at my sheeth in the first hour 😂! I switched to 25w UV LED lamp, and they reeeeeealy seem to like that...
Excellent ! Agree about LYU's , very low numbers and even more so Lesser's. A question a couple of people have asked me over the years is why moths have colour when they fly at night. I don't anyone will ever be able to answer it.
Great video Trevor, that diving beetle was amazing, glad you managed to get it home to photograph, I trapped a lovely Burnished brass myself absolutely beautiful moth, looking forward to your next video, Terry.
The Burnished Brass made a lovely finale. Your ponderings on its beauty are somewhat like mine with the tarantula Typhochlaena seladonia. Why a spider who lives in a hole with a well-camouflaged trapdoor should look like they dressed themselves with Christmas chocolate wrappers?
It's a stunning tarantula isn't it Catherine. I used to have a large collection of tarantulas in the 1990's. Oh, for some of todays species, to have been in the hobby then.
Hello…..I am absolutely fascinated by your videos….i spent a decade at Rothamsted (87-97) running the insectary and growing plants for entomologists…..I met my wife there and moved up to Teesdale where she was from to run my nurseries (Eggleston Hall Gardens & Plantsmans corner). I am retired, though my wife and apprentices still run the places now….but I still make videos on the Plantsmans Corner channel. Two questions; Would you mind my recommending your channel on the next video? And (I’m dead nosey) Have you always worn nail varnish? I only have about 12k subscribers but I’m sure they’d be delighted to see some content that’s so unusual, informative and pretty unique. I can’t remember the moth guy at Rothamsted….Adrian I think, but Norman Carrick was the bee man….I grew the plants for the insect survey during the period I was there (amongst other) anyway….thanks again. I was stung by a hornet once and it really really hurt. Best wishes…Malcolm Hockham
Hi Trevor 👋 that was a lovely evening Moth trapping with some very attractive moths and at last saw the mighty diving beetle ,🪲I was reminded of that brilliant cartoon " Hoppity goes to Town " just for a moment ..ever seen it ! 😅xxxShaz
Some beautiful moths came in the burnished brass is a stunner- I understand your vision about the colour. But actually,a well polished brass and gold is rather similar to a point. No less beautiful. Amazing session Trevor 💯👌👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
@@theramblingentomologist now that’s a memory ☺️☺️ I remember grassing the old patient bells every week or so- before buzzer pressing but it was an old infirmary not many modern cons
Some nice looking moths this video, though the light emerald and the Burnished brass are very pretty. You have more guts than me, I wouldn't want to get that close to the hornets. Hope next year is better for trapping
I think next year will see snow improvement, as long as the coming Autumn through Spring isn't as wet as last year. Regarding Hornets, I trapped last night and ended up with over 20 potted up!
Great video Trevor. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. As a beginner moth-er your videos and website are invaluable in helping me learn
Thank you Carl, that's very kind of you to say.

Thanks Maxwell. Enjoyed your video too.
Nice work. Worth it for the White-points alone, plus the bonus diving beetle.
And to think I'd never seen GDB till last year too. Like buses, you wait ages gor one, then two come at once 😀

No. It does make you wonder about colouration on moths, other than for camouflage during the day. Glad you enjoyed the video.
Anybody notice the harvestman walking over me at 13:39 😀
Must be on a day trip from Worksop Priory.
😂

Not managed to get a photograph of that one yet Terry. It's still in a tank on my back yard (or patio, for those down south 😂)
@@theramblingentomologist We are very posh down here 🤣😂I wonderd what the tank was for in your video`s.
You'll soon know all my secrets 😂

Up to the usual high standard Trevor
That's very kind of you to say Barry. I appreciate it, thank you.

Yes, no problem you recommending my videos and yes. I've worn nail varnish for a long time. For some reason, men can't get over the fact I do 😀

Thank you Shaz 😀 xx
I love rambling about bugs...and I love moth watching
That makes me happy 😃
Not a moth but I’m intrigued with the frog-legged thing at 15:37
It's a leafhopper nymph Brian.
@@theramblingentomologist Thanks, Trevor
No problem Brian. I wondered what I'd missed for a while there 🙂

You're quite right, they are similar Glenda. A long time since I helped my Mum clean her brass on the fireplace.

I did. Soon tried to do a runner though 😀
Hi Trevor how you keeping I gave a like
Thanks again Paul. Yes. I'm alright thsnk you. How are you doing?
@@theramblingentomologist I was playing golf on Friday and saw 3 or 4 Peacocks a few whites and browns and a lovely fresh small tortoiseshell
Very nice. Pleased about the Small Tortoiseshell.
@@theramblingentomologist Have you ever done a live moth trapping session that would be fun
It might be for everyone else 😂
i love hornets! best of all the animals. i love hornets! they're my friends!
if you never saw the advert for 'i love horses' then i apologise for the interruption
i genuinely do love hornets tho
the straw underwing was gorgeous!
burnished brass also!
Seems like everything is in decline and the problem is it's all down to man
