Hi mate, on the Pi / Linux grab jstest & jscal. You can specify dead zone configuration for analogue inputs (including the "SixAxis" accelerometer if you have enabled it in sixad's config). I haven't needed to do that with the official ones but I have with a clone I used to use for a while.

As you can see, on the FAKE, the button's left end starts under the right end of the letter S. On the REAL, it starts under the middle of the first letter E. The font has been pushed to the right.

Vibration is terrible on these I paid 15$ for it and I'm not mad it is great if you have broken original controller in that case I'm kinda happy with it they feel like trash but for the price it's good it has much lower weight to

ScpToolkit cannot 100% indentify original Dualshock 3, because it is only a guess based on the manufacturer of the Bluetooth chip detected. There is no 100% secure way to identify a genuine Sony controller just via software (statement of ScpToolkit developer).
I actually found I have a fake DS3, the exact same as the solid blue on in this vid, as the Playstation TV I was trying to get it to wirelessly connect to just would not work, but it did via USB. Did some research and it turns out a PSTV is clever, and detects non-genuine. I also had installed SCP on my PC and received the same messages as Dave here... so mystery solved, I guess! Final test will be trying a known genuine DS3 controller on the PSTV.
Mine was missing the counter weights and motors!! I felt it lighter , sure enough I open it, said USA made guaranteed refurbished! Lol fakes has no reset button on back, push in a toothpick to feel the button, shake it to feel metal weights inside. eBay nothing but aftermarket. I would keep it if I knew a comp tech guy to put motors inside but then SixAxis motion sensors not work on a fake?
In this case I don't mind the fake, its a brand new controller for like £10 delivered that unlike a lot of fakes for other controllers doesn't feel like thin plastic (had that issue when wanting to replace my PS2 controllers which is why in the end I changed to PS3) buttons work and feel much better than the other more obvious fakes etc. I keep my original controllers for my real console or my Nvidia Shield.

I had one of these at the beginning of the year, thought I'd got a bargain at the time! The lack of a reset button on the back gave it away!

My Raspberry Pi picked it up as a Shanwan controller which is a known fake.

Analog DeadZone will kill your enjoyment of Racing games and First Person Shooters and any game that might need precise movement of the Analog sticks.

simple check - try to rub led and U know it is fake or not, fake are never felt like in genuine one because they stick out

The problem is it doesn't work fully as it should be. Besides, it is still being sold as a genuine Sony original (which is not true).
Also fake PS3 controllers don't have motion controls. So they are useless.
