@@engineermerasmus2810 nearly all ww2 tanks are bad, why you have to criticise something that was good in it's time. Sure the armor was one of the worst in the time but late ww2 hungarian tanks already had good armor, they were just bombed and had to stop

      @hazed1009 2 года назад

It's very similar to the stuh 42 (105mm howitzer armed stug3)
However the running gear wasn't as good, tended to fill with mud , break more easily and wasn't as mobile as the stug due to the small wheels and the lever action double bogie that held 2 sets of roadwheels and rocked over obstacles, with the limitations this caused. However it was valued by the German forces as a decent assault gun /tank destroyer. Excellent armour thickness although riveted construction was less effective and heavier. If you really would like to learn more about it there's a great book all about it.. zrínyi 2 assault howitzer, by Attila Bonhardt [isbn 978-615-80072-3-8]
Pretty much covers everything. Fantastic photos too.

i think the toldi II can be considered, at least capability wise to be one of the best light tanks fielded in ww2. it performed well in the reconaissance role but it really wasnt a match against anything heavier than T60/70/80s

    • @jmantime
      @jmantime  9 лет назад +3

Nebukadnezarthe2nd true, the Nimrod was better at engaging soviet light tanks even though it was designed as an anti-aircraft tank

+Nebukadnezarthe2nd A good observation. Toldi was dependable, easy to manufacture, and small enough to manage European Streets and overhangs. The later, 40mm armed, versions certainly looked good . . . on paper.
However, in my humble opinion . . .
A tank has to be rated by both its generic utility and its mission specificity. Toldi was a reconnaissance vehicle first and these are best when light, low, and maneuverable; gun armament and combat capability are a nice, but unnecessary, adjunct to this major activity of intelligence gathering. Recon vehicles, and I cite the UK Daimler Dingo here, need great all round visibility most, followed by small silhouette and maneuverability--in that order. For this a 2 man crew might be considered sufficient. Combat vehicles, on the other hand, need a dedicated gunner to free the commander up so he can keep aware of what's going on around him. For this, a 2 man vehicle is inadequate. A commander, burdened by having to spot targets, and manage the gun (traversing the turret, aiming, firing, and loading), is usually unable to maintain Situational Awareness during combat. This was the major drawback of the T60/T70 series, the Panzer 1, Polish and Nihonese armed Tankettes, and all French Light Tanks. The US/UK moved away from the 2 man paradigm quickly, fielding 4 man Light and Cavalry tanks for both Recon and Screening purposes, but even these were inadequate as combat vehicles as they forced the commander to help service the gun (or act as gunner).
In light of combat experience it was perceived that the 3 man turret crew was optimal for both Recon and Combat situations, but enlarging the Light Tank to accept a third man in the turret made the vehicle grow until it was too large to effectively conceal during maneuvering. By the time the USA put the M24 Chaffee (a five man, well armed, design) into service it was decided that the utility of the Light Tank was over, for they could not be well enough armored to act as tanks in the field; future ArCav AFVs were more akin to Armored Cars, than tanks. COBET (Red Army) planners also saw this and, from 1943, the roles of screening and reconnaissance were turned over to light armored cars (i.e.: BA 64), or full size mediums (like the T34).
Thanks for taking time to read and consider this.

    A small correction:
The color Turan picture is from Kubinka. The vehicle shown in the photo is a Turan 2, not a Turan 1. The difference between the two is small, however. Turan 1 was armed with a locally produced 40mm Bofors Autocannon. Turan 2 was arm,ed with a locally produced, short barrel, 75mm gun of similar characteristics to the German 7.5cmKwK39/L24 which armed early StuG 3 and Panzer IV models.

I don't really understand why they reverse the film , perhaps to avoid copywright or to make the film in the eyes of the film maker more dramatic but you see this quite often on these RUclips compilations.
You know its reversed because the bow machine guns appear to be on the wrong side of the hulls.
The twin Mgs (in the armoured covers) on the Turán medium tank should be on the left side as you face the front of the tank , (right side if you're in the tank facing forward)
It's a pretty misleading thing to do to old films as the position of the equipment, symbols, decals etc is often why people watch these films. Also it sort of distorts the historic value for far off in the future when there are less people around who would see the mistake.
Still I value seeing these old films, can't say I get to see them otherwise so I'll take what I can get, it's just a shame this practice of reversing film is quite common

Trianon was against Wilson's self-determination theory, because it WASN'T based on democratic referendums (general equal&secret ballots). It was not a wonder that Czech, Romanian and Serbian politicians PROTESTED against the very idea of democratic referendums about the borders. Czech politicians didn't trust in Slovaks, because only very few Slovaks joined to the so-called "Czechoslovak"army against the Hungarians in 1919 (and Slovaks represented only 48% ratio in Northen parts of Hungary). Romanian politicians didn't trust in Transylvanian Romanians, perhabs they didn't want to join to backward & poor Romania (the ratio of romanians were only 53% in Transylvania). Serbs were small minority (22% !!!) in Voivodine. Similar to Romania, Serbia was also a very backward Orthodox country without serious urbanization or industrialization.
It was not wonder that the USA and president Wilson did not signed this anti-democratic dictate.
There were only one democratic referendum about the borders between Hungary and Austria: The Sopron area referendum in Western Hungary in 1921, where Entente officers were the leaders of the voting districts, there were general equal and secret ballots with electoral registers (or poll books) of the LOCAL residents, and every local citizen could take part in the elections over 18year, regardless the ethnicity, social status or sex)
The "national councils" were brutal mockery and caricature of democracy.
    1. Only the Romanians/Czechoslovaks/Serbs were allowed to vote, and only men were allowed to vote. Hungarians were not allowed to participate in the elections.
    2. The elections of the envoys of "national" councils were not even locally documented, only the decision of the self-appointed and locally established "national" councils.
3.There weren't secret ballot systems in that "elections", the elections were held as public open ballot/voting, with the simple raise of their hands.
    4. There were not so-called "minimal voter turnout", it means that even few gathered people of a (single ethnicity "voters") in a very small pub/bar (as it often happened) could decide the future/fate of whole huge cities.....
    5. These so-called "elections" didn't use any ELECTORAL REGISTERS (or POLL BOOKS) of the LOCAL RESIDENTS,
thus it made the gerrymandering directly possible. Like the participation of foreign voters from other countries and from foreign settlements were common, thus many people take part in the "elections" who had not any relationship with the area of the actual voting districts. So without electoral registers, even foreign stranger "voters" could participate in the elections (An open possibility for brutal gerrymandery) T The participation of foreign Serbian soldiers in the elections was usual in Southern Hungary Voivodine too. Without electoral registers of local residents, a single voter could vote in many many districts, thus a single man could vote in many many times in many places and voting districts without any problems...

Culturally, both islam and the semi-asian orthodox countries were traditionally west-hater civilizations.
THE WESTERN (Catholic-protestant) WORLD is depicted in dark blue on the map of prof. S. Huntington:
    upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/2f/Clash_of_Civilizations_map.png
    What is Western Civilization?
The earliest mention of Western civilization “Occidental civilis”
After the Great Schism (The East-West Schism /formally in 1054/, between Western Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox Christianity.) Hungary determined itself as the easternmost bastion of Western civilisation (This statement was affirmed later by Pope Pius II who wrote that to Emperor Friedrich III, “Hungary is the shield of Christianity and the protector of Western civilization”)
It is not a secret in history, that countries civilizations are/were not in the same level of development.
It is well-known that Western and Central Europe, ( the so-called Western civilization) was always more developed than Orthodox Slavic or Eastern European civilization.
The differences in culture (material and verbal), legal constitutional, societal, political, economical, infrastructural, technological and scientific development, between Orthodox countries and Western Christian (Catholic-Protestant) countries were similar great, as the differences between Northern America (USA Canada) and Southern- (Latino) America.
    MEMENTO:
Western things which were not existed in orthodox world:
    1. POLITICAL AND CONSTITUTIONAL development: Medieval appearance of parliaments (The parliament is a legislative body(!), DO NOT CONFUSE with the “councils of monarchs” which existed since the very beginnings of human history), the estates of the realm, the clergy, the nobility, and the commoners,
    2. Local SELF GOVERNMENT status of big royal/imperial cities, which are the direct ancestors (the continuity) of modern local self governmental systems. Do not confuse the local self governments with the so-called city states. Sovereign city states were the earliest form of states in Human history ( For example: Sumerian city states), and that legal concept has nothing common with the self-governments/local governments of cities within a country or within an Empire.
    3. ECONOMY: The medieval appearance of banking systems and social effects and status of urban bourgeoisie, the absolute dominance of money-economy (when the vast majority of trade based on money and the taxes customs duties were collected in money) from the 12th -13th century, instead of the former primitive bartel-based commerce (barter dominated the economies orthodox world until the 17-18th centuries.)
    4. HIGHER EDUCATION: The medieval appearance of universities and the medieval appearance of SECULAR intellectuals,
    5. CULTURE: Knights, the knight-culture, chivalric code, (and the technological effects of crusades from the Holy Land,)
Music and literature: courtly love, troubadours, Gregorian chant, Ars nova, Organum, Motet, Madrigal, Canon and Ballata, Liturgical drama, Novellas,
medieval western THEATER: Mystery or cycle plays, morality and passion plays, which developed into the renaissance theater, the direct ancestor of modern theaters.
    Philosophy: Scholasticism and humanist philosophy,
    6. The medieval usage of Latin alphabet and medieval spread of movable type printing,
    7. TECHNOLOGY: The guild system is an association of artisans or merchants, which organized the training education, and directed master's exam system for artisians. Due to the compulsory foreign studies of the artisian master's candidates, the guilds played key role in the fast spread of technologies and industrial knowledge in the medieval Western World.
    8. The defence systems & fortifications: The spread of stone/brick castle defense -systems, the town-walls of western cities from the 11th century. (In the orthodox world, only the capital cities had such a walls . The countries of the Balkan region and the territory of Russian states fell under Ottoman/Mongolian rule very rapidly - with a
single decesive open-field battle - due to the lack of the networks of stone/brick castles and fortresses in these countries. The only exception was the greek inhabited Byzantine territories which were well fortified.)
    9. FINEARTS and ARCHITECTURE: western architecture, sculpture paintings and fine-arts: the Romanesque style, the Gothic style and the Renaissance style.
The orthodox church buildings and „palaces(?)” were very little, they had primitive structure and poor decorations, their style were influenced by oriental non-European arabic, persian and Syrian influenced Byzantine ornamentics.
10.The renaissance & humanism , the reformation and the enlightenment did not influenced/affected the Orthodox (Eastern European) countries.
    11. Before 1870, the industrialization that had developed in Western and Central Europe and the United States did not extend in any significant way to the rest of the world. In Eastern Europe, industrialization lagged far behind, and started only in the 20th century. Their infrastructural and economic development was also very very slow, and many determinant factors of modern civilization - as we called them as civilized way of life - (railways, the electrification of cities, drain & sewer systems, water pipe systems, spread of tap water and bathrooms, telecommuncations etc... spread many-many decades (60-80 years) later.
It is no wonder that their contribution in science technology and innovations are completely negligible in Human history by the WESTERN standards.
