Tested the new PAL paper. It is whiter and heavier than last year's. My fountain pens came out fine on it, as did all other pens/pencils/stamps. No bleeding or feathering with a Lamy Studio M nib, or even a stub (Opus 88). Tested with Lamy blue and Leonardo Noce Moscata. Very happy!
For those who were disappointed with the paper performance on the PAL planner - I use fountain pens and rollerballs in my planner. I've not had an issue really with bleedthrough for simple writing. But it's not the best for ink properties if you like to draw or swirl a lot of ink on the pages. I just really love that there is a planner option that doesn't use super thin paper but also isn't hardbound or ringed. It's my favorite planner:)
I absolutely LOVED this video❣️❣️❣️ As a fountain pen only user, this was so helpful and I am here for more videos like this💖💖💖 Thank you soooo much for making this video and for the time, effort, and thoughtfulness put into it⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Super quick question, would you put the Traveler’s Company MD paper at the same level as the H. Cousin or the Jibun Techo Standard Diary?
Thanks so much for watching! I would put MD Paper closer to the Jibun Techo Standard (MIO) paper, it has much less ghosting than the Cousin and smudges less too! I think for ink quality it's maybe somewhere in-between the Cousin and Jibun Techo - shows shading and sheening very very well but seems to soak up the ink more/dries faster.
@ That helps immensely❣️❣️❣️ I finally can choose my planner line up for next year. This video and your feedback were the information I needed to make that choice🌻 Thank you so much🥰 You all are absolutely the best⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Yes, I also saw that hobonichi now has 47gsm from jet pens website. But someone else told me it’s still the same thickness as 52 gsm, so density change of paper? I don’t know enough to understand 😅
@@tortagialla Interesting. I'm terrified of it either way. I spiraled this month and bought some Plotter items. I've have deemed it is crinkly enough, and fountain pen friendly enough to work with my inks and stub nibs. However, I'm not feeling the ring planners at the moment so I've turned my 2024 5 year Hobonichi into a bullet journal.
@ I say it’s great to modify things to work how you want them to! I got my hobonichi weeks and a6 for 2025 and thankfully the paper works as expected, no issues for me personally!
Thank you so much Ashley! Very informative video. I also purchased an Ours Studio Research Journal. I want to start a media log using stamps from Everyday Explorers and now I know I have to look for a notebook with at least a 68 GSM paper. Anyone has suggestions?
I’m disappointed with 5-year techno by Hobo. I cannot use fountain ink ✍️ at all. That is so disappointing… that was intended use with fountain pens. 😢😢
Hightide - PasPier - okay, this is like a French play-on-words. "Pas" means "not" in French and the s is silent. So "PasPier" and "papier" would basically be pronounced the same way (pah-pee-yay), but at the same time PasPier is sort of saying that it's not paper. 📝
Thanks for this video but I will have to correct you on one thing... the 2025 TAKE A NOTE planner has very different paper qualities. I bought the A6 and A5 to make sure and the paper soaks up the inks way more and produces a much thicker line. :( Anyone who used TAN planners from 2024 should not expect the same paper in 2025.
@@ChooseToDo I tested with only fountain pens, my EF nib on my Kakuno did not give any bleed through but my F and M nibs did however give a little bleed through :( Ghosting was similar to last years so that stayed about the same. I'm really sad about it because I loved the layout so much but I'm switching back to my TN this year.
Thanks for the insight!! That's very helpful for anyone using the 2025 next year I'm sure. We'll have to see if we can test this out on a 2024 and 2025 version here!
FYI: Hobonichi changed the weight of the TRP-Sanzen from 52 to 47 for 2025. It has made a significant difference for some.

Super helpful comparison! Thank you for including how the papers handled the stamp that was very interesting to see.
yep that stamp is very helpful, I actually made my own stamp recently and sadly it doesn't work that well on some paper that I have tested.
This was a fascinating demonstration. Thank you. No relevance for me however, I use a pencil.
oooh I can't wait to get started in my hobonichi next year 🥰🥰
this video is soooo INCREDIBLY helpful thank you Ash!! ✨
thank you, this comparison was really helpful
I really appreciate this video to see all the differences and close up details. Thank you!

The paper in the PAL is excellent for pencil, for my fellow pencil-loving folx. 📝
Just visited the store today for the first time and it was as cozy and wonderful as I thought it’d be 😊 greetings and love from queens ❤
Great and helpful video. Thank you so much! Thrilled how great the Jibun Techo holds up with FP properties ❤
Thank you!
Wow, top notch work. Thank you, very useful information! :)

It really does seem to be the year of paper changes haha I was really impressed with the PAL planners paper
I would love to have seen Nolty planner paper compared to these as well
Great reference video. Thank you! Is the Hobonichi paper 52 or 47 gsm? I've seen 47 on the web.

Where are you from? Love you accent. Some friends from Missouri speak like you.

I read that Hobonichi uses 47gsm. Is that right?

Oh my gosh that's incredible, I love that! As someone who never learned French, thank you for the explanation! -Ashley
@@Yoseka they've kind of made a name like Tofurky, but with the pronunciation unchanged! 🍗 There must be other good examples out there too....
I am surprised the 52gsm is better in a way. Do those Kokuyo Thin come as loose or other forms?
Shes so pretty
Can you review 2025 Wonderland 222 planner?
Also Omigish the Iroshizuku Ajasai is gorgeous!!
