She's not lacey, but she's still pretty damn good. I think she is doing a great job. Of course everyone's comparing her to lacey, but lacey actually chose her as a replacement. That says something.

Now that Flyleaf is back with Lacey at the helm, I strongly believe that they need to record a new album and feature Kristen as a guest vocalist on at least one track- if not more!
Definitely Kristen has a voice prettier than voice of Lacey. I know it is strange everybody is accustomed to old singer but Kristen has a vocal very better than Lacey.

Everyone that says this isn't Flyleaf is crazy. Lacey HAND PICKED this girl to lead Flyleaf on and she is doing an amazing job. The new songs have fire & passion and leave all of Lacey's "emo-ness" behind. I 100% support this version of Flyleaf.

I think that its really disrespectful that people are still slagging Flyleaf off over Lacey leaving. Well I have news for you people.. Yes Lacey has amazing vocals and you may associate those vocals with Flyleaf but she was not soley Flyleaf. You guys seem to be forgetting about the musicians. I hear Flyleaf in this new music, and Kristen's vocals are so good. Just get over it guys. Flyleaf are still a band.
Here here, I only started listening to Flyleaf with this new song and video so I already prefer Kristen, I've listened to two of their previous albums, and although I liked them and it was cool and all, I just wasn't into it unlike this new song, really hope the rest of the album is just as good! :)
It's really sad Kristen didn't stay longer with Flyleaf when she sounded great. Disappointing that most fans still kept comparing her to Lacey and Lacey's voice/vocals and couldn't really give Kristen a chance to try being apart of the band. I really liked Kristen's voice brought to the band. Hopefully the band can find another lead vocalist/singer who can stay.
The problem, at least IMO, is that Lacey is very distinct and Kristen, while she is a terrific vocalist, has a different style. This isn't Brian May stepping in for Bon Scott. A vocalist isn't just about the correct pitch, it's the tremble in their voice, the power, the fire. Lacey could go from a very delicate, trembly voice to screams in seconds and that was a style that's uniquely hers. You hear her on a song and instantly know it's her. I feel like, if they haven't stayed with the Flyleaf name, it would've gone a lot smoother.

Kristen is a wonderful singer but would be better she have formed a band of her own instead of substituting a lead singer, Flyleaf was a band formed for Lacey Sturm another great singer, everybody were already used to her in this band, seeing Flying every time make us remember of Lacey, this form everyone missed Lacey on Flyleaf... it was very complicated to Kristen even she being a wonderful and beautiful singer belonging in a band formed by another singer that had so many years of success through the another leader singer this is really complicated... Lacey was the soul of Flyleaf after she left this band... the band died. But if Kristen formed a new band of her own sure it would be more successful.. 🧐 🙂
she left becuz to spend more time with her family of a growing part and she said flyleaf was never hers, honestly of what flyleaf fans said of there guess at least some of them said she was probably tired becuz ppl were saying she wasn't lacey so yea that's what I have to say tho. tbh I really like flyleaf a lot there really good I both like Kristen and lacey when they were n the band.
So much better to hear Kristen not covering Lacey's vocals and singing with her range and her emotion. It is not the same as the old Flyleaf but I am enjoying it and looking forward to hearing the whole album.
I honestly think that her voice is actually incredible especially with that range of hers.. Amazing! It's just that we've been listening to Lacey for so long that we can almost not moving on with a new vocalist..but whatever happen to Flyleaf I'll always support them like I always do. :) Things change. I am glad there are people writing they like this song. This was the first song I heard from Flyleaf. People are over-emotional in the comments. Just because your favorite band changed the vocalist, doesn't mean end of the world. Flyleaf is lucky to have good vocals in every album. She is not that different from Lacey but you can hear it's not the same. This is one of their best songs. Stop crying for one vocalist. The world is full of bands and musicians. Open your eyes and start exploring new sounds! I am sad because every time a band gets a new vocalist, people say how the new one isn't as good as the old one. It's not easy to replace someone's place when the fans are negative.

They wont be they same not matter who is in them. So dont expected Flyleaf to be the same its part of growing up for you and for the band. Yes Lacey is doing her solo career and you can still listen to her amazing voice there. BUT give the new Flyleaf a chance and fall in love with it for what it is. I've noticed City Kids has alot of undertones and reminds me alot of Have we Lost. Lets me honest... when a band loses its lead singer its not the same band. This is a good example to contrast with breaking Benjamin. Breaking Benjamin will always be breaking Benjamin because Benjamin never left, and hes the only original remaining. Flyleaf loses lacey and it isn't the same band, all falls apart and no one can fill the void. Lead singers ARE the bands identity.
Hello people!! I'm from Brazil and I listen to flyleaf for a long time. what I have to say, every band has a soul, and the soul of the flyleaf was Lacey, Unfortunately for the band. Kristen, without doubt is a great singer, that's why the band chose her. I'm hoping that one day the flyleaf will come back with great songs like All arround.

I missed the old singer only for custom, not because her voice. For saying the truth ive never thought voice of Lacey Stum so beautiful like this. It was only because i was accustomed right. Dunno why people are complaining about Kristen's voice. As someone who has tons of vocal major friends, they all agree that Kristen has a far superior control over tone, pitch, and overall complexity. Emotion is also a big part of it, but you have to be open to new music. Bands change, and this isn't bad. If you want Lacey, listen to the old albums. If you want Flyleaf, then buy this album.
Yes, Kristen knows how to sing and can sing her ass off. Lacey's live vocal performances for Memento Mori suck. She may have destroyed her voice during the first tour, idk, plus she's probably not trained in the first place. The first three Flyleaf albums are so amazing, I'd actually rather hear them sung by someone with a good, strong voice.

I don't know - a big part of why I started listening to Flyleaf in the first place was Lacey's voice, combined with how powerful her live performances were, and how she pretty much poured her heart and soul out on stage. I saw them open for Staind, before "I'm So Sick" was even being played on the radio. No one knew who they were yet, but they impressed me enough to buy their album, and I was a fan from that night onward. I saw them play live several times after that, and while Lacey wasn't perfect live, she was never horrible, at least from the shows I went to. Lacey's voice is very unique, which, to me anyway, is a good thing. I loved their first, self-titled album, thought Memento Mori was a solid sophomore effort overall, and apart from the first single, I liked New Horizons a lot too. I've listened to Between The Stars a few times, and I guess it just doesn't appeal to me. They sound like a different band, even though the only new member is Kristen. Seems like they've dropped any hint of hard rock/alt. rock in their sound that they once had, and went for a more pop-oriented approach. Oh well, to each their own.
Complaints mainly aren't about her voice, but rather her style. It's much different, especially with a very different lyrical style. I don't think this is bad but it doesn't sound like Flyleaf's style anymore. I have nothing against the new singer, but they would be better off starting fresh with a new name, since she is filling a role that changes the bad drastically. If they started fresh with a new name, it would not be as heavily compared to their old music.

Scott Raps the book comes out October 7th. You can pre-order it on amazon. It's called The Reason: How I Discovered a Life Worth Living. I'm not sure when her album will drop though. Hopefully around that same time.
Kristen said in a video on the PledgeMusic page that this song was inspired by Divergent, which I think is great. There are vids on youtube with samples from the upcoming album (and you can also check out the album's page on Amazon for samples as well) and I'm very happy with what I hear (if you think this song isn't deep enough, then listen to the samples for the other songs). Yes, it's different, but I love seeing the energy and enthusiasm that Kristen is bringing to the table. (Not that Lacey isn't (wasn't?) energetic and enthusiastic). Kristen and Lacey are both unique, talented, creative, passionate individuals and comparing them would be like comparing Van Gogh with Picasso. Neither is better--they're just different artists. I will continue to support Flyleaf and I will continue to support Lacey as well. Everyone's making good art and telling their own stories. I think they're worth listening to.

First off let me just say, i will always love Lacey and the raw emotions she brought to the group not to mention her awkward body movement and hand gestures she does while singing. Anyways i must commend Kristen for her valiant effort in this music video i love the impeccable vocals and her tone is amazing. Personally i thought they could have included some more elements to the video like, when she said reaching for you she would outstretched her arms into the air then a spark of fire would literally set her a blazed then her ashes ascended into the sky. overall i am adjusting to her and i will continue to listen to Flyleaf, and oh yeah "Marionette" and "Thread" are awesome.
nothing wrong with a band taking a slightly different direction with a new singer bc they know they can't go back to the way things were with Lacey. That all being said, I really enjoy Kristen's voice, and the first time I heard her was when I saw Flyleaf live in NYC. I'm friends with one of the openers, Charetta, and was there for them. Say what you will about the recordings, just do yourselves a favor, open your mind for ten minute and watch Kristen sing live. She has immense power and projection and she didn't just hit every note she sang in this song, she actually sounded better. And she does it effortlessly. She didn't even break a sweat on stage and she was moving around just as much as the bass player and guitar player. I give her mega props for stepping into a situation with a band that has a sound as unique as Flyleaf's and making it her own.
after watching this I found myself, finally, liking her voice but what bothers me is that her voice isn't as non-generic as Lacey's was. It's not that her voice sucks is just that for a band like Flyleaf having a different and unique voice is a must. Let's see how this new beginning goes.

What people need to realize is that bands grow and change. Whether by a change in membership or simply a desire to change it up a bit, it happens all the time, and it is THEIR choice. Lacey picked Kristen herself, and though it doesn't sound like the Flyleaf I originally fell in love with, I still love this sound. I'm proud of Lacey for her reasons of leaving, and proud of the band- and yes, Kristen- for keeping the music going. Rock on, Flyleaf!

Her voice is good, she rocks. But Lacey's performance used to make you FEEL the songs in a deep way. You could live the story of those lyrics in a different way. You notice that SHE felt the songs when she was singing and you just couldn't not pay attention to that. Lacey has a gift, that only a few of the music industry have.

So, when I first heard of this band, my friend showed me "I'm So Sick." At first, I thought Lacey's voice was too girly for my taste... And then I heard her scream. My friend kept saying, "no, that's the chick! That's the chick!" And I couldn't believe it! I wanted to hear more. This chick with a girly voice can scream?? That's why I started listening to Flyleaf and I fell in love with Lacey's voice. I understand why Lacey left, I understand that she chose Kristen to take her place. I just keeping remembering how many times the Newsboys changed singers and I didn't notice, and how I didn't notice when Smashing Pumpkins changed singers. Flyleaf has/had a VERY distinct sound that is very difficult to match. Now it has a different sound that almost makes it sounds like many other songs and no one can argue that. Kristen sings very, very differently (Lacey never growled while she sang for instance). Kristen has a more powerful voice, she can do more with her voice than Lacey could and she definitely belongs in a band. I'd listen to that band. But Flyleaf was formed around Lacey's kind of style and Kristen doesn't match it. We gotta face it though, 99% of singers don't have it, so finding the perfect replacement for Lacey is virtually impossible. Nevertheless, I am such a big Flyleaf fan and since I like Kristen's voice and I like this song, I'm forcing myself to get over it. But I really wish people would understand why everyone is having such a hard time with it, most of us aren't being rude about it (I said most, not all). I know Flyleaf understands. Kristen knows that she's a fantastic singer and she's quite a trooper to keep flaunting it. But she, like anyone else they could've chosen, sounds nothing like Lacey and all radical Flyleaf fans are going to have a hard time with that. A very hard time with that. God I miss Lacey.

Gender or sex has nothing to do with screaming or uncleans. It’s still rare ish in the metal and rock scene for women, but it’s definitely there and growing as it’s not just seen as the boys’ club anymore.

You know... I already held a funeral for Flyleaf. That era is gone and that flyleaf is gone. Now we have this. Which is really just a new band. Why They had to call it Flyleaf is purely for name recognition marketing, but essentially this band right here rocks. I like them. Sure... they're not really Flyleaf, but I can get behind their sound.

I'm relatively new to flyleaf, I REALLY like Lacey's voice, tons of people say how they don't like the new lead singer, honestly think the new lead singer is pretty good, not better then Lacey but she's still a good singer. Definitely a good choice as the new singer.
I actually really like this! I'm going to keep supporting Flyleaf. They're my favorite band and changing the singer will not make me dislike them. I miss Lacey as well, but I know she also has stuff in store for us! I can't wait to get Flyleaf's album and Lacey's book in the coming months. ^^

Everyone that says this isn't Flyleaf is crazy. Lacey HAND PICKED this girl to lead Flyleaf on and she is doing an amazing job. The new songs have fire & passion and leave all of Lacey's "emo-ness" behind. I 100% support this version of Flyleaf.

Here here, I only started listening to Flyleaf with this new song and video so I already prefer Kristen, I've listened to two of their previous albums, and although I liked them and it was cool and all, I just wasn't into it unlike this new song, really hope the rest of the album is just as good! :)
It's really sad Kristen didn't stay longer with Flyleaf when she sounded great. Disappointing that most fans still kept comparing her to Lacey and Lacey's voice/vocals and couldn't really give Kristen a chance to try being apart of the band. I really liked Kristen's voice brought to the band. Hopefully the band can find another lead vocalist/singer who can stay.

The problem, at least IMO, is that Lacey is very distinct and Kristen, while she is a terrific vocalist, has a different style. This isn't Brian May stepping in for Bon Scott. A vocalist isn't just about the correct pitch, it's the tremble in their voice, the power, the fire. Lacey could go from a very delicate, trembly voice to screams in seconds and that was a style that's uniquely hers. You hear her on a song and instantly know it's her.
I feel like, if they haven't stayed with the Flyleaf name, it would've gone a lot smoother.

Kristen is a wonderful singer but would be better she have formed a band of her own instead of substituting a lead singer, Flyleaf was a band formed for Lacey Sturm another great singer, everybody were already used to her in this band, seeing Flying every time make us remember of Lacey, this form everyone missed Lacey on Flyleaf... it was very complicated to Kristen even she being a wonderful and beautiful singer belonging in a band formed by another singer that had so many years of success through the another leader singer this is really complicated... I am glad there are people writing they like this song. This was the first song I heard from Flyleaf. People are over-emotional in the comments. Just because your favorite band changed the vocalist, doesn't mean end of the world. Flyleaf is lucky to have good vocals in every album. She is not that different from Lacey but you can hear it's not the same. This is one of their best songs. Stop crying for one vocalist. The world is full of bands and musicians. Open your eyes and start exploring new sounds! I am sad because every time a band gets a new vocalist, people say how the new one isn't as good as the old one. It's not easy to replace someone's place when the fans are negative.

Alot of people are saying because of Kristen and Lacey this isnt the flyleaf they know and they are right. Bands are like people they evolve and change. They wont be they same not matter who is in them. So dont expected Flyleaf to be the same its part of growing up for you and for the band. Yes Lacey is doing her solo career and you can still listen to her amazing voice there. BUT give the new Flyleaf a chance and fall in love with it for what it is. I've noticed City Kids has alot of undertones and reminds me alot of Have we Lost. The same Flyleaf is there it has just has some more layers and isnt that just like our best friends or city we grew up in.Sorry to those who dont like change but it has to happen to survive.

Lets me honest... when a band loses its lead singer its not the same band. This is a good example to contrast with breaking Benjamin. Breaking Benjamin will always be breaking Benjamin because Benjamin never left, and hes the only original remaining. Flyleaf loses lacey and it isn't the same band, all falls apart and no one can fill the void. Lead singers ARE the bands identity.

I missed the old singer only for custom, not because her voice. For saying the truth ive never thought voice of Lacey Stum so beautiful like this. It was only because i was accustomed right. Dunno why people are complaining about Kristen's voice. As someone who has tons of vocal major friends, they all agree that Kristen has a far superior control over tone, pitch, and overall complexity. Emotion is also a big part of it, but you have to be open to new music. Bands change, and this isn't bad. If you want Lacey, listen to the old albums. If you want Flyleaf, then buy this album.
Yes, Kristen knows how to sing and can sing her ass off. Lacey's live vocal performances for Memento Mori suck. She may have destroyed her voice during the first tour, idk, plus she's probably not trained in the first place. The first three Flyleaf albums are so amazing, I'd actually rather hear them sung by someone with a good, strong voice.

To me, Kristin has a nice voice but it's a very normal voice. There are a lot of singers who sound just like her. :/
I don't know - a big part of why I started listening to Flyleaf in the first place was Lacey's voice, combined with how powerful her live performances were, and how she pretty much poured her heart and soul out on stage. I saw them open for Staind, before "I'm So Sick" was even being played on the radio. No one knew who they were yet, but they impressed me enough to buy their album, and I was a fan from that night onward. I saw them play live several times after that, and while Lacey wasn't perfect live, she was never horrible, at least from the shows I went to. Lacey's voice is very unique, which, to me anyway, is a good thing. I loved their first, self-titled album, thought Memento Mori was a solid sophomore effort overall, and apart from the first single, I liked New Horizons a lot too. I've listened to Between The Stars a few times, and I guess it just doesn't appeal to me. They sound like a different band, even though the only new member is Kristen. Seems like they've dropped any hint of hard rock/alt. rock in their sound that they once had, and went for a more pop-oriented approach. Oh well, to each their own.
Complaints mainly aren't about her voice, but rather her style. It's much different, especially with a very different lyrical style. I don't think this is bad but it doesn't sound like Flyleaf's style anymore. I have nothing against the new singer, but they would be better off starting fresh with a new name, since she is filling a role that changes the bad drastically. If they started fresh with a new name, it would not be as heavily compared to their old music.
I miss Lacey but this song it great and I hope they have success with all of their albums

Kristen said in a video on the PledgeMusic page that this song was inspired by Divergent, which I think is great. There are vids on youtube with samples from the upcoming album (and you can also check out the album's page on Amazon for samples as well) and I'm very happy with what I hear (if you think this song isn't deep enough, then listen to the samples for the other songs). Yes, it's different, but I love seeing the energy and enthusiasm that Kristen is bringing to the table. (Not that Lacey isn't (wasn't?) energetic and enthusiastic). Kristen and Lacey are both unique, talented, creative, passionate individuals and comparing them would be like comparing Van Gogh with Picasso. Neither is better--they're just different artists. I will continue to support Flyleaf and I will continue to support Lacey as well. Everyone's making good art and telling their own stories. I think they're worth listening to.

First off let me just say, i will always love Lacey and the raw emotions she brought to the group not to mention her awkward body movement and hand gestures she does while singing. Anyways i must commend Kristen for her valiant effort in this music video i love the impeccable vocals and her tone is amazing. Personally i thought they could have included some more elements to the video like, when she said reaching for you she would outstretched her arms into the air then a spark of fire would literally set her a blazed then her ashes ascended into the sky. overall i am adjusting to her and i will continue to listen to Flyleaf, and oh yeah "Marionette" and "Thread" are awesome.
nothing wrong with a band taking a slightly different direction with a new singer bc they know they can't go back to the way things were with Lacey. That all being said, I really enjoy Kristen's voice, and the first time I heard her was when I saw Flyleaf live in NYC. I'm friends with one of the openers, Charetta, and was there for them. Say what you will about the recordings, just do yourselves a favor, open your mind for ten minute and watch Kristen sing live. She has immense power and projection and she didn't just hit every note she sang in this song, she actually sounded better. And she does it effortlessly. She didn't even break a sweat on stage and she was moving around just as much as the bass player and guitar player. I give her mega props for stepping into a situation with a band that has a sound as unique as Flyleaf's and making it her own.

after watching this I found myself, finally, liking her voice but what bothers me is that her voice isn't as non-generic as Lacey's was. It's not that her voice sucks is just that for a band like Flyleaf having a different and unique voice is a must. Let's see how this new beginning goes.
I think she is amazing, and I love something in this video a lot. The fact she's wearing a dress. Like Lacey does in her videos. I think it's a tradition or something. I love it, I love Kristan's(?) voice, I love the music video, I love everything about this!
What people need to realize is that bands grow and change. Whether by a change in membership or simply a desire to change it up a bit, it happens all the time, and it is THEIR choice. Lacey picked Kristen herself, and though it doesn't sound like the Flyleaf I originally fell in love with, I still love this sound. I'm proud of Lacey for her reasons of leaving, and proud of the band- and yes, Kristen- for keeping the music going. Rock on, Flyleaf!

Her voice is good, she rocks. But Lacey's performance used to make you FEEL the songs in a deep way. You could live the story of those lyrics in a different way. You notice that SHE felt the songs when she was singing and you just couldn't not pay attention to that. Lacey has a gift, that only a few of the music industry have.

Creo que es algo realmente irrespetuoso para Flyleaf que insistan en despreciar la voz de Kristen. Es una cantante que le pone toda la energía posible y se esmera en mejorar cada vez más. Lacey es excelente, su voz es angelical y potente, sublime por donde se la escuche, pero se fue. Tomó la decisión de seguir una carrera solista. ¿Por ella deben terminar todo? Yo no lo creo. Asimismo, no niego que la esencia que se transmitía cuando ella estaba en la banda se haya perdido, pero los tiempos cambian y quien sigue a la banda lo hará pese a todo.

So, when I first heard of this band, my friend showed me "I'm So Sick." At first, I thought Lacey's voice was too girly for my taste... And then I heard her scream. My friend kept saying, "no, that's the chick! That's the chick!" And I couldn't believe it! I wanted to hear more. This chick with a girly voice can scream?? That's why I started listening to Flyleaf and I fell in love with Lacey's voice.
I understand why Lacey left, I understand that she chose Kristen to take her place. I just keeping remembering how many times the Newsboys changed singers and I didn't notice, and how I didn't notice when Smashing Pumpkins changed singers. Flyleaf has/had a VERY distinct sound that is very difficult to match. Now it has a different sound that almost makes it sounds like many other songs and no one can argue that. Kristen sings very, very differently (Lacey never growled while she sang for instance).
Kristen has a more powerful voice, she can do more with her voice than Lacey could and she definitely belongs in a band. I'd listen to that band. But Flyleaf was formed around Lacey's kind of style and Kristen doesn't match it. We gotta face it though, 99% of singers don't have it, so finding the perfect replacement for Lacey is virtually impossible.
Nevertheless, I am such a big Flyleaf fan and since I like Kristen's voice and I like this song, I'm forcing myself to get over it. But I really wish people would understand why everyone is having such a hard time with it, most of us aren't being rude about it (I said most, not all). I know Flyleaf understands. Kristen knows that she's a fantastic singer and she's quite a trooper to keep flaunting it. But she, like anyone else they could've chosen, sounds nothing like Lacey and all radical Flyleaf fans are going to have a hard time with that. A very hard time with that. God I miss Lacey.

Gender or sex has nothing to do with screaming or uncleans. It’s still rare ish in the metal and rock scene for women, but it’s definitely there and growing as it’s not just seen as the boys’ club anymore.

I missed the old singer only for custom, not because her voice. For saying the truth ive never thought voice of Lacey Stum so beautiful like this. It was only because i was accustomed right. But listening to this video I've noticed that Kristen has a vocal very prettier than Lacey Sturm. Kristen are a awesome singer her voice is much more beautiful! I loved! Kristen deserves our respect for her job!! 😘

You know... I already held a funeral for Flyleaf. That era is gone and that flyleaf is gone. Now we have this. Which is really just a new band. Why They had to call it Flyleaf is purely for name recognition marketing, but essentially this band right here rocks. I like them. Sure... they're not really Flyleaf, but I can get behind their sound.
Well, she's not Floor Jansen (or Lacey for that matter), but I think I can still dig this version of Flyleaf.
This band won't ever be the same without Lacey, but being a huge pop/punk and rock/post etc. fan I really enjoyed this song. Kristen has a really great voice and I will continue listening to this band. Looking forward to the album. :)

I'm relatively new to flyleaf, I REALLY like Lacey's voice, tons of people say how they don't like the new lead singer, honestly think the new lead singer is pretty good, not better then Lacey but she's still a good singer. Definitely a good choice as the new singer.
