  • My name is Julie Willson and I have decided to create this video in addition to my recent photo shoot to help raise awareness of Down Syndrome. Down syndrome is sadly looked at as a negative thing but after watching this video, you will see how wonderful it can be. The full video will be released in March 2016.
I grew up with a sister who had Down syndrome and she was the absolute light of our family. The abortion rate of babies diagnosed with Down syndrome is 67% in the US and 92% in Europe. My hope is that I can help make a change and to help you all realize that "there's nothing down about Down syndrome".

I Will never forget the day my mother came home and said I can't believe it , these doctors told me that my unborn child will have down syndrome and all the bad things that will be and the worst part they asked me what I was doing if I will get rid of the child, my mother replied are you a freaking idot what kind of person ask a mother what she will do with her child?because they will have down syndrome? my mother looked at them told them they were highly stupid for having a degree and said I'm doing what any mother would do I'm going to raise my baby with unconditional love no matter what god blesses me with... Today my sister is 17 she does not have down syndrome she is very smart and we al love her!! Thwy told us there was a 99.9% chance and they were wrong!! The point is I understand how these mothers feel we dont want to hear the bad things we want to hear the positive!! No matter the outcome mothers love there is nothing like it. We usually love Unconditionally.. I don't look at children differently none I look at all of our children as a blessing. Down syndrome is just another label for us humans!! And I hate labels!! God bless all humans

    Julie,
I found your video clip. Very nicely done. The joy filled walk you have with a child with Down syndrome is not describable.
I remember how people tried to console us with platitudes of; "God gave you a child with Down syndrome because he knew you could handle it." That really only made us feel worse. I didn't want my child to go through that because God thought we were strong. However my younger brother had the best advice to me as I tears were in my eyes when he said; "Remember, God is crying with you."
    A great calming statement.
After the shock of learning this, seeing all the "bad" stuff on the internet, you begin to realize that Down syndrome is not a curse, it's not a disease, it is just part of your child. Just like their smile is part of your child. Their laugh is part of your child. Their joy is part of your child. Most importantly they are YOUR child. They love you, they need you and they are a joy.
While statistically speaking my daughter is 51% me, 51% my wife, she is 100% our kid.
Thanks for your video and best wishes in its production.
    Kirk

Thanks for sharing this amazing video clip. I started a webpage here in South Africa, Down Syndrome Awareness on Facebook for the main purpose to show other families that having a daughter / son / brother / sister with DS is just as what any other typical family will experience (based on our family values / experiences) . Yes, sometimes more challenging but life is about challenges and OVER COMING those challenges! Your video clip is soooo right at the heart, to show new parents that DS isn't a death sentence, is just a chromosome, there is joy in the morning and a new hope every day! Love it and can not wait to see the full video in March 2016!

What a beautiful video of children living with down syndrome and their families! Truly the 'key' has been found to unlock the cloud of darkness that has covered our nation & our world for several decades! The LORD has chosen our littlest sisters & brothers to break open HIS Heart of Mercy - Let it Rain!
