Yeah, let’s fire Pip so the investors can place a corporate figure head who actually will force this stuff in the game. You guys haven’t thought this through.
A lot of people like to argue that World of Warcraft lets you make basically unlimited characters on 1 account, but what they forget to mention is that you cannot login to more than one of those characters at a time and also that characters in WoW are very limited compared to a character in OSRS (~4-5 maxed wow characters basically = 1 maxed osrs character). If osrs ever did go down the route of allowing multiple characters per membership, then it would be more than fair imo to charge for the ability to multi-log those characters. WoW does the same thing 🤷♂
"Old School RuneScape in 2025 feels like a relic clinging to past glory-a museum piece where the dusty graphics and repetitive grind are both a nostalgic trip and a sobering reminder that even legends can age without grace."
People will always say that the "golden age" has passed. People said that when oldschool came out that the golden age is over and the game will never be as popular. Yet, the game became even more popular. I do not think the golden age has passed but I think we stand at a crossroads that could ultimately lead to the demise of the game. Hopefully, the community is able to band together and make it clear that if they want to kill the game we will kill it on our terms and we will stop playing and turn a once profitable company into one that is hemorrhaging money.
Golden age is relative honestly. Mine was 2015-2019 ( not sure about the actual dates but the events are basically when Ironman mode came out and when the Elven Grandmaster quest came out) Game started going to shit when Zurlah, raids and skilling mini game came out. Honestly it's not to say that Zeah, Varlamore, Scurrius, Perilous Moon and all new content was bad. It's just that the game eventually changed a lot and became too much like WoW or RS3 especially in pvm related stuff. Game has stopped being GOAT for at least 5 years at this point it no longer has the mystique and energy it had when it came out... It has gotten old but honestly it could also be age related most of us are in our 30s I had a blast with the game in my 20s but priorities changes.
the whole point is that people have been saying THIS is the golden age, and are making comments about it changing in the future with these things to look forward to
My conspiracy is that a wealthy ceo/board is pushing hard for more profits. The dev team created this poll to present the complete failure and how much of a bad idea monetization is.

Really is crazy that despite hiking membership prices 30%, they continued to have steady player growth and hit all-time highs during leagues, and that wasn't good enough for them. They really just needed to give us Leagues every year or so, a new Raid every 3-4 years, and some minor updates here and there, and we'd stick around and GROW even as they hike prices beyond inflation rates. And instead of investing in any kind of player support or anything to continue to grow the game, they hired a consulting firm to tell them how to squeeze EVEN MORE

I hate the proposed membership changes but I do think some people are overreacting. It was a survey. I will 100% quit if these changes go live, but doing market research does not mean they intend to make these changes. Mat K himself has talked about how he used to do player surveys and focus groups about ways to add MTX into osrs and that the results of that research got management to back off the idea. People acting like the game is ruined already need to take a breath.
Golden Age of OSRS was around when multi-revs got removed. Before it got removed I was loving PvP. After it got removed I got my first infernal cape and I learned ToB. You could still kill Zulrah over and over again for a profit, even with the bots. God Wars dungeon was still a melee dungeon besides Arma. There was no Nex grind for irons. Gauntlet wasn't a required hellhole for irons. Corp was a legitimate hell for irons (lol). The game still had an old soul. Now it's just... different. Everytime I play now I have to do a bird house run and my group ironman character has been stuck in the gauntlet for like 100 hours.
You get it. The game despite being objectively much shittier had soul. Nowadays there are raids, skilling mini games, bosses to grind etc. Is this WoW, RS3 or OSRS?
The golden age was before 2019, back when people weren't making 10m/h and gear was perfectly balanced. The nex and toa rewards only made the game less fun, plus they were underwhelming pieces of content on top of it all.
The day before the great graphical change of '08, I got my 2nd 99; fishing at Shilo village, cause I wanted that sexy light blue/gold trim, but I lost my untrimmed mining cape for that fashion. The next morning, the whole game changed. Still have 60k salmon and trout in my rs3 bank
Why does it feel so dark? That was a bad move on Jagex but why does the golden age have to be over? Ideas were thrown out which were offensive but nothing has changed quite yet. Maybe something good will come from this.
Does it really need explaining? This entire game was a project born out of backlash against past decisions with clear lines drawn in the sand. By even entertaining the idea of things like ads, paid plugins and other services, Jagex have (even if inadvertently) damaged the social fabric and goodwill they have built up over the years. It demonstrates an intent, despite being not yet acted upon, to look for ways to squeeze and nickel-and-dime players for features that are either already free, developed by, or clearly in opposition to the will of the community. Nothing good comes from this as indicated by them doubling down and gaslighting the community. They have seemingly already committed to introducing ads to F2P, for example. We are supposed to be glad that it isn't going to affect paid memberships. Yet. This is the erosion of trust that occurs when a company doesn't respect its customers.

I haven't liked the direction they've taken Oldschool for quite some time. There have been so, so many controversies over the years that this latest misstep really shouldn't surprise me, but it's the final nail -- the proverbial straw. The game has completely lost its charm and just feels like Pre-EoC with all the copy-paste updates. I got fed up and actually made an iron on RS3 with my remaining 11 months of membership last year and was pleasantly surprised. I had a blast, it really isn't as bad as people think. I think the only thing that would get me back into Gielinor at this point is if they released an offline (or co-op) static client of the game that I could play or mod to my heart's content. Perhaps Project Zanaris will serve this purpose?

Arguably the year the game died . . . . . .and how greedy and bullish they were to shut down 06scape to bring folks to this shit show. I look forward to the fall of osrs. Please share why pkers are bad and how cool your pvm stuff is. Not like pvpers have been selling pvmer services for years. This is awesome . Lol . The elitist will become served with karma . Ty 4 da stuff buddyZ
It was over in 2015 lmao

The golden age of CORPORATE GREED IS IN
Eoc really made the playerbase the biggest drama queens of all time. Total meltdown over such a minor thing, a survey. Gonna be forgotten in a few weeks as usual lol
Look how quirky and against the grain you are!

@@RhubarbRehab I'm confused, are you okay with these changes? If so, why? These changes are terrible in my opinion.
A survey with things that people obviously wouldn't want.
Is this a bot ? Has to be a bot creating rage bait to farm engagement for some reason, right?
This is so over blown its ridiculous
dude you are so special and unique for thinking this
I agree so much. Be angry about the options they presented, but have faith they aren't gonna screw it up in implementation
I love that every subscription service constantly creeps towards higher prices for less features, I love being walked all over by billion dollar corporations, spit on me CEO daddy
"Back off, leave the multimillion dollar company alone!"
It will next time too.
First. Gg ubaru
This is so overdramatic its unreal.
You will never grow up, you'll just be a giant manchild cash cow for jagex 😂. So sad.
I don't know there was ever a "golden age" to begin with. Games that are around for a long time like this have ups and downs.
