      a thing most non-history buffs don't know is that a stone and sling is actually extremely deadly. A decent slinger can and could shoot a stone hard enough to crack a skull and crush a brain; which is exactly what David just did

    This is perhaps the most "human" interpretation of Goliath so far and i love it!
    First he walks away from David altogether, a clear indication that he at least has a moral compass and killing a child is below him.
    Then he aims his spear not at David but to king Saul, assuming he was the one who forced him to do "a mans job.
    And finally he constantly questions David about his choice and showing mercy to him, even as far as to give his own sword to him.
    Every other incarnation of Goliath just leans into reducing him to a flat villain stereotype or worse, but here he's so much more than a monster and they show him as a morally grey antagonist.
    Sure, he may be a nephilim but he's still part human at the end of the day and his only mistake was to challenge God himself, leading to his demise.

    I really love the realism of Goliath's reaction to David appearing. I don't think any kind of warrior, let alone one with a huge amount of pride would think there would be any honor in killing some unfortunate child that wandered into a battlefield.
    But true to form, his arrogance is still his undoing. Can't really shout at the sky with a metal helmet like that on, can he?
    This was just really well done. Very tasteful and epic

      I’m having trouble expressing just how much I love that the creators wrote and animated it in such as way that the viewer sees the battle as David does - that the story is not really about David, but about God using a child (later man) after His own heart to show the world who He is. As skilled as he was, all of David’s confidence was in God and the scene highlights that in a beautiful way.

      @Mediados The studio has hits and misses. They fair better when they do religious movies, terrible at adapting books. Thry're the studio remaking animal farm and taking away the anti-communist messaging from the book and making it defeat the message.

    • @Mediados
      @Mediados Month ago +6

      @anglosaxiphone8246I have only seen memes of that remake. Interesting though.
      Which is ironic because I think the writing in David is too on the nose. It comes off preachy, like you'd hear a sermon in a church. I know Christianity is the point, but like with Prince of Egypt you can convey that mythology with nuance.

    • @anglosaxiphone8246
      @anglosaxiphone8246 Month ago +2

      @Mediados My standards for bible based films is Low af. I have the same lense for religious films as I do for kids media. Peaked in the late 90s and early 2000s, where the pretty colors of modern day has to compensate for boring and preachy writing. You can see it with Animal Farm.
      Christians really can bring in more followers with better productions but the enforced modesty and self-censoring ruins the epic tales. Prince of Egypt was the perfect amount of art and respect. Christians are sleeping on gold with neglect towa4ds the artistic side of production.

That means the story of David and Goliath happened far before the Quran was ever written, and before the Islam belief even existed (Early 7th Century AD).

The rose petals being red is a nice metaphore to the bloodshed that was actually Goliath’s downfall and the way the stone David picked made those petals fly on to Goliath, like if God have listened to him and threw his fist upon the giant to slay him. In the end, David put his faith in action and led him to victory.

    • @dhorn4005
      @dhorn4005 11 days ago

      @bruh-bn3ni Indian? Latino? ...the greeks? I don't know witch greeks you know; but they are european... it is true that they came from the mediterranean (a mutch more sunny place hence they have developed mutch more melanine than in norther Europe) and in the past 1000 years they have received multiple invasions from ottomans, turks and overally more mixure with arabians and north africans ... but there are still blonde greeks with green or blue eyes...
      ...it's true that thoose charasteristics are more common in other Indoeropean groups (among the celts especailly was developed the redhair mutaion, very spreaded in the British isles, and the germanics had a very pronounced amount of very blond hair and pale constituttion)... but we are speaking about the greeks of 2000 years ago... in this case even 4000 years ago... and we do know by fact that historicall figures such as Alexander the Great was very famouslly blonde haired... even for the Egipians, the semitic and persian people where depicted in hierogriphs as been quite pale skinned... at least in comparation to themselves; who portried themselves as having dark-redish skin...
      So yeah; for the semites of Biblic times a greek could be seen as quite blonde and pale in their eyes... even if most of them would be quite tanned and dark haired when compared to a celt or a german.
      Indians are looselly related to the indoeropeans by VERY far ancesors (an the climateof India made them develop quite a different features; been very different to other asians... in fact, latinos (or south american natives as I assume you are refering) are genetically more closelly related to eastern asians... even if today they don't look mutch alike... you can actually see that resemblance more easilly in northern americans (spacially inuits) and the people from the polinesian isles... in any case; if you go to greece you will see that they look like average europeans.
      More quantitty of dark skinned, black haired people, yes.... but not mutch more than in southern France, Itally or southern Spain.

      How historical do you think the Greco-Roman style armor being used on the Philistinian soliders is?

    • @VeritasQuest-t8v
      @VeritasQuest-t8v Month ago +1

      @3freezeen Look, the short answer is: it depends on which 'Greek' you're talking about.
      If the armor you saw looks like that of a Gladiator soldier or a Roman Centurion, it's off by about a thousand years. The Romans only appeared much later.
      But, if the armor is in the Mycenaean Greek style (like the warriors from the movie Troy), then it's almost 100% accurate! The Philistines were 'Sea Peoples' from the Aegean, so their appearance was quite different from the rest of the Middle East:

    • @3freezeen
      @3freezeen Month ago

      @VeritasQuest-t8v I would reference the Dendra Panoply for the Mycenaean Greek armor. The Philistinian armor in the video doesn't resemble the Dendra Panoply that much, with the Dendra Panoply being non-feathered in helmet and rather onion-style clumsy conical in body plate armor. The video shown is more alike the classical Greek era, which the Romans learned from, having fitting plateskirts and feathered helmets, and so like you said is off by a lot with the era of David. Which era's Greek armor you think the armor in the video look more alike?

Goliath is really well-designed, with pale skin and gigantic stature he does look like an impossible adversary. • @IanSRutter
      @IanSRutter Month ago +105

      Why do you think it was meant to stun?
      David was out for the kill.
      1 Samuel 17:49 'Then David put his hand in his bag and took out a stone; and he slung it and struck the Philistine in his forehead, so that the stone sank into his forehead, and he fell on his face to the earth.'

      Actually, in Islam, Prophet David indeed killed the giant Goliath by using a single, divinely guided stone from his shepherd's sling, striking him in the forehead and bringing him down, after which David used Goliath's own sword to finish him, demonstrating faith over brute strength, with the Quran confirming this miraculous victory and God granting David kingship and wisdom, and then he received a divine revelation named "the Psalms."

    • @Arkmanzz
      @Arkmanzz Month ago +47

      I think the stone did kill Goliath in a single blow. David just cut his head off as a trophy

    • @IanSRutter
      @IanSRutter Month ago +25

      @Arkmanzz No, David cut off Goliath's head to:
      1. Demonstrate his victory over the Philistine giant.
      2. To symbolize the defeat of the Philistine threat to Israel.
      This act also served to prove that David was a capable warrior and to solidify his status among the Israelites after defeating their enemy.
      The idea of 'keeping Goliath's head as a trophy' would never have been accepted.
      The only times the Israelites kept rewards was if God told them.
      The concept of 'The Spoils of Victory' in the Bible refers to the goods, wealth, and possessions taken by the victors after a military conquest.
      This theme is prevalent throughout the Old Testament, where the Israelites, under divine command, often engaged in battles against various nations.
      The spoils of these victories were seen as blessings from God, rewards for obedience, and means of provision for the people of Israel.
      They never collected heads as trophies.

    I love how Goliath is initially portrayed as this massive, intimidating individual but after insulting God and being struck by David's stone, the camera zooms out really far as he collapses. In that moment, he doesn't shake the ground as he falls, he doesn't land with a massive thud, he just kneels over and falls quietly in the middle of a huge field like the tiny man he truly is. It just shows how, despite being larger than life in the eyes of men, he was just another tiny speck, a momentary blip, not even an obstacle worth considering in the eyes of God. Whatever problems we face, God is bigger and mightier.

    I wasn’t sure about Goliath’s character design at first but showing his red anger was a nice touch to show his offensiveness, and anger. This was a great Goliath!

    I LOVE the shot where Goliath is taunting God, and the camera slowly pans up into the sky, as if God is watching Goliath from the heavens. Beautiful directing.

      Before turning upwards, the camera gains altitude, making Goliath look small as well!

      Kind of a cheap shot, capping him with a stone while Goliath wasn't even looking his way. Goliath showed far more honor during this.

    the lesson behind david and goliath never underestimate you rivel, no matter the size, pride and arrogance can lead you to humiliation and defeat. always remain humble

      True, but I think in this case or at least how it’s interpreted. Goliath doesn’t want to fight David because we’ll, David let’s face it, is a kid I would also feel insulted if they sent a kid into a man’s war

    @6:07 the flower petals, y’all. THE FLOWER PETALS!!!! 😆
    Seriously: in this film, nature symbols = God’s activity. Butterfly, birds, stag, sun, wind, and flower petals.
    The stone picks up a trail of flower petals in its wake, and the petals wash over Goliath’s body after he’s hit.
    Basically, it shows God punching Goliath in the face!

      Those flowers are, apparently, a type that only grows in the valley where the battle took place. The makers of this movie went to Israel and modeled the locations after their real-world counterparts!

    I saw the movie and thought it was incredible. I have a feeling it's not over yet; it makes me want to see more about David. It would be really cool if they made a series, like the one about young David, with scenes from that period of David growing up, his friendship with Jonathan, and other scenes that couldn't be included in the movie because of time constraints.

    1 Samuel
    Chapter 17
    Verse 45-50
    "David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day the Lord will deliver you into my hands, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head. This very day I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds and the wild animals, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel. All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give all of you into our hands.”
    As the Philistine moved closer to attack him, David ran quickly toward the battle line to meet him. Reaching into his bag and taking out a stone, he slung it and struck the Philistine on the forehead. The stone sank into his forehead, and he fell facedown on the ground.
    So David triumphed over the Philistine with a sling and a stone; without a sword in his hand he struck down the Philistine and killed him."

    • @Mediados
      @Mediados Month ago

      While I am sure this battle actually occured, it's also not logically impossible. A well-shot rock from a slingshot, especially one to the head, is a lethal blow to any human no matter how strong. Unlikely yes, but not impossible.
