I get what your description is trying to say but....any broke dog will adapt to species. I know ruffed grouse are VERY particular in how a dog approaches them and you have to have a dog that's extremely cautious in the woods, but you can same the same for chukar/pheasant desert quail. It's really fun to watch an experienced dog learn a new species. I do think you might be right in that...if your dog grew up on forest grouse, it might make less mistakes on other species compared to the opposite. But a highly experienced chukar/pheasant dog is something to marvel over!
Awesome job what Part of Kansas are you in? My son's mother-in-law owns Land in louray I live in Pennsylvania. He keeps trying to get me to come out. I don't know if the pronunciation of that is right but it's luray I'm not sure if I spelled it right
Enjoyed the video. Subbed after I saw your hunt from RGS PA Wilds. Grew up near there and just learned about it as I'm getting back into the upland scene. Daydreaming of trips like this. Public or did you hunt private? Trying to gauge my expectations.
Just saw this video. I can't figure out why people say drop to their dog without the dog delivering to hand? I've had dogs drop a very live duck/ringneck and watched the bird take off!?!?
Whatta. Hunt... the. Thing. On. My. Mind. Now. Is. An. Area. With. Hungarians...bobwhites....Prarie chickens.... sharptails...and. ringnecks.. that. Can. Be. A. Hell. Of. A. Day.....
all but 1 of the chickens you shot were females. Females have pinnates too. Theirs are 3/4 inch long Males 2 inches. Easiest way to sex them is females have barred tails. Mails dont have any barring...solid brown
I had many English Setters, and they all pointed and retrieved. I could help you if I could work with them for a while, but I doubt that will happen. Best of luck to you!
Thanks for coming and enjoying my state! This year should be even better. Pheasants had their best hatch in years.
That’s great to hear, and not everyone is as welcoming as you so it’s greatly appreciated!
Good Job!
Thanks for sharing Jed. Congrates on your Kansas Slam. I have not had the opportunity to harvest a Kansas chicken.
Thanks buddy, keep getting after it and you’ll find some chickens!

You are dangerous. You came closer to hitting your buddy than the bird a couple times. Can’t imagine what kind of shots you cut out of the video
Appreciate the feedback
I noticed the same thing, made me cringe a couple times. I enjoyed the dog work though.
Forgot the fourth species. Blue quail.
well kansas is not what it used to be, but do like the effort
duno how it used to be but we had a good time, and found a lot more birds than what makes the cut of the video. What was a good day back then?
Your dogs need a little more work on bringing dead birds back to you.
Thanks man, can you help me with that?
