SHINee themselves posted a Replay dance practice vid in 2008. Dance practice videos existed long before, but Lucifer is often credited as making it a trend, which in turn made posting dance practices much more common than it used to be. Replay was the first dance practice posted online for the purpose of sharing it with fans. SM has always recorded dance practices since HOT but they never shared vids with fans, you only saw clips in documentaries or TV specials. SHINee's Replay was the first one to be shared online.

Ring Ding Dong was one of the first Korean songs I heard. I didn’t know it was a Korean song though. I was 7 or 8 when it came out. All I remember is how happy I was listening to it. Hello was also a bop I loved and still love. Edit: Lemme clarify. I didn’t know it was a Korean song when I was 7 or 8. I clearly know it’s a Korean song now. SHINee, Super Junior, and old school Hyuna were some of the first artists I heard of when I was younger.
SHINee really did pave the way for this third generation of kpop. I've heard countless idols say that SHINee is what made them want to be idols. Kpop would not be what it is today without them and they do not get enough credit for that. And Taemin is literally the most developed idol in the industry. He started when he was 11-12 years old and he's now unparalleled. I am so grateful he was raised by his SHINee brothers because they loved, doted on, and most of all protected him for over half of his life. If it wasn't for them raising him, it's crazy to think where he'd be today. I mean he's the most phenomenal performer kpop has ever seen, yet offstage he's still this big kid that's really humble and shy. He still has stars in his eyes every time he looks at his brothers too and it's adorable. You can tell he loves and adores them as much as they do with him. For them to go through the tremendous loss of one of their brothers and continue to be with each other is a testament to itself. These young men are truly incredible and I'm so grateful their little family was put together the way it was.
I was trying to find words and you said it in such a true and beautiful way, thank you. It left me with tears in my eyes. The K-pop industry owns a lot to these amazing guys, maybe even the paths for the entire 3rd generation. Anyway, it's more than we will ever know.
the way he treats and uses his dancers as part of the performance is always top tier. the only artist (that i've personally seen) do the same is chungha

While Taemin is like the strokes of vibrant colour in a painting, breathing life to the art he portrays, his dancers are like the intimate waves, shades, shadows and touches that truly transform the picture into reality, and this altogether gives his performances the true sense of artistry he is highly praised for. The harmony between him and his dancers is unlike any I have yet to come across. The best example I can site here are the recent stages of Heaven (honorable mentions: Black Rose, Tiger, Criminal etc). In Heaven, Taemin has fewer bold moves compared to other choreos, but the silent yet sharp fluidity of his dancers are mesmerizing beyond what can be put into words. They depict everything, from the Creation of Adam to the voices singing from above, only through their fluid movements. It's worth saying that Taemin and his muses are sure to transcend you to Heaven.
I was showing my coworker the video of Jinki singing Opera. We were sitting outside while listening and a little old lady stopped in the middle of her walk and stood next to us to watch and listen to the whole thing. It was the sweetest thing. SHINee brings joy.
My daughter featured the audio of him singing that in a virtual assignment, and later she showed that assignment to my mom. My mom just kept saying "that young man has the most beautiful voice".
in my humble opinion, jonghyun will always be the king of vocals, but onew is DEFINITELY a close second. in terms of vocal technique, they’re equal - the breath support and stability is absolutely equal in every sense of the word.
I think they are the first group to have a member designing their concret outfits and ofcoure we know that if key and he is obviously a high fashioned fashionista
they up the ante when singing live proving that their skills are not confined within the recording booth. and their concerts....just be ready for the rollercoaster ride with new song arrangements or showmanship. actually, i find SM Entertaiment's marketing is too involved that the concert concepts and titles are copyrightable material - from the SuJu's supershows, Shinee's Shinee world series to Exo's Exo== sets (OK Suju's and Shinee's are simply Supershow and Shinee World + number...) but they make a mark.
Fun fact: shawols are pretty much the ones that started the trend of having “fansites” and were dubbed as “cannon goddesses” bc they’d carry around humongous camera lenses to take pictures of shinee 😊 Not only the group, but the fandom is out here setting standards heh

I’m not super into kpop (not a deep “stan”) but I just found out about him dying and was sad for a bit then looked up his death and found out it was a suicide and now I feel like crying. I barely know this group but this is heartbreaking
In my opinion they are the first group to try different styles of song and also broke lots of stereotypes and yet rocked it. They never had nor will have a bad song!!! Every single member is so precious for me!!! Being SHAWOL is the best decision I have ever taken.... They are LEGENDS!!!!!!
Guess what? I love them but I can say I love also their fans. I've met some of them and I feel really proud to be a SHAWOL. When I see how their fans appreciate them for everything, not just for a good looking or cause they are trend... I feel very happy. They really shine

When he sang Nessun Dorma (opera song) he was also really good language-wise. I'm Italian and usually when foreigners sing in Italian is sound "weird" (in a cute way!) but his pronunciation was basically perfect! I'm impressed, he must have practiced a lot to get it right!
I think that's just something about Onew. Even learning a new language, he can imitate the accent REALLY well. For example, he is far from being fluent in English, but when he does speak it/sing it, his pronunciation is top notch.

SHINee is the group that actually got me into Kpop! I first started listening to another SM group, but they just didn't have my interest. Before I gave up on Kpop all together, I listened to SHINee and I was hooked. I've been a Shawol for 7 years now and I'm so glad to have found them ❤

As an Italian, I can say that Onew has no doubt the best pronounciation I have ever heard from any foreing singer. He must have spent so much time training for it while preparing for the performance, he's great!
Shinee really setting bar too high for their musicality. The way their music always one step ahead of time and challenging themselves with different genre. Not forget that 5 of them as solo artist has their own color that perfectly shows their own.

I used to think that groups were overall lip-syncing when performing and I was fine with that because they were also dancing. Then I saw a Shinee performance. I can't remember what song but I could hear the live vocals and were also performing hard choreography. Shinee elevated my standards for live singing during performances.

I saw that on Twitter in 2018: someone had been visiting the editorial room of YH Sketchbook while they were editing SHINee's appearance (I think they did View, Good Evening and I know the clip with YH trying to dance along to MOVE is from that date too), and the visitors were asking (since YH Sketchbook prides itself of their guests only singing live when they appear there) if that was really live because they were dancing so hard. So the editor pd-nim took away the BGM and they could only hear t heir voices and the hard breathing from the dancing. Those people uploaded that clip to twitter, they weren't even Shawol from what I remember. I don't have a link to that, but I was so impressed that I remember the occasion.

I’m no longer a kpop fan, but SHINee performances are the ones I always go back to. Doesn’t matter if I’ve seen it at least 10 times, their performances are always worth repeating. Their vocals, dance and overall energy are this good.

Whenever Onew sings, it's almost like everyone forgets to breathe so that they can hear him even better. He is most definitely my favourite singer in SHINee. The rest is a four way tie for second place lol.
And it's funny how Army's are claiming that Jimin was the first idol to ever dance blindfolded. While Shinee did it first, and they all did it at once meaning its way harder for 5 people do dance and SING at the same time while being blindfolded and still being in sync.

I am also an army but i have never seen armys telling like that they might be toxic stans who doesn't know about kpop . You mentioned that so many younger idols looked up to or claimed that SHINee inspired them to become an idol and it reminded me of a video I watched recently. It was the reaction of younger kpop idols to SHINee's performance at the 2023 MMA. I don't know if their performance wasn't announced, but so many of them were absolutely floored when they came out. Pretty much all of them got out of their seats and started cheering and dancing. As a Shawol, it was truly amazing to watch.
This is so obvious..like they have the best debut song..and no one has been able to cross it still...when a group debut performance is that great..then what do you expect..they top themselves everytime💙💙
Oh, here's a couple more: - They do some of these high energy dances on rising stages, and some of them get really high and are pretty narrow! I'm always impressed when a group can do that, but I've yet to see a group do it as much as these guys have. - During Shinee World IV, in the song Stranger, Jonghyun runs back to mainstage after dancing, climbs a flight of stairs and then belts a high note, then comes back down to rejoin the choreo. WTH?! - Also, they literally end the Shinee World V concert (pre-encore) with Everybody, and dance it hard. Two and a half hours in, they do that choreo. I remember the first time I saw that, I literally shouted at the screen, I was in such disbelief they were performing that so far into a set. No wonder in the encore they congratulated themselves for no one getting injured during two nights back-to-back. (Everyone should watch the Shinee World V concert. These guys do an equivalent of a marathon in dancing. It is so impressive.) - Taemin's Press Your Number choreo. That one part. If you've seen it, you know what I'm talking about. Whoa.
man.... watching this video made me so emotional. It reminded me of the reason i became a Shawol in the first place, i can't believe it's been almost 9~10 years since i became their fan and this video made me miss them so much, they definitely are legends without a doubt and seeing more people recognizing that makes me very happy! and i can tell you that they definitely are lucky to find each other i remember back when married to the music was out and there were less and less fans supporting them (just realized that was 5 years ago ...damn), it broke my heart because i knew they deserved more recognition for their talents and abilities, as a multi-stan myself i understand that people's interests change to what is new and fresh , but that doesn't stop you from keeping an eye on them from time to time and supporting them whenever you can, either way SHINEE will always remain Kings in my eyes and i'm happy i got to see them grow and become inspirations to many , i mean look at Taemin 12 years ago he was just a fetus who used to slay every girl group dance in existence 😊 now he's making Art on stage ♥

I've seen the Dynamite performance so many times, but never Jjong's reaction LMAO a mood indeed. Jinki is without question my favorite vocalist period, and its really cool to see what someone with operatic training has to say about his performance, so thanks for those tidbits!
Jonghyun's vocals is just... SO UNIQUE AND UNDENIABLY RARE!! I just started watching and I HAD to comment this: his ad-libs during their debut stage was so INCREDIBLE!!! It's like he was already a legendary singer... Wah.... Amazing.... And of course, SHINee is married to the music. Our boys sound SO FREAKING GOOD from the beginning😭 Wah I still feel heart-fluttering feelings even though I've been a Shawol since late 2011.... I love them

I was new to kpop in 2008, I saw a few groups and solo artists, than I saw Replay and I was a goner. Shinee is my group. Jonghyun was and still is my only bias. Other groups come and go. SHINee was the group that got me into kpop. they were my first. I've never been more proud or more heartbroken. But even though Jonghyun is gone, the others continue to uphold their legacy and make him proud. they are the brightest star in the sky
I started calling SHINee artists instead of idols as early as their Sherlock era. And it was around when I went to an art school, during Misconception of You release when I get it that they're true artists. (I followed SHINee since late 08 early 09, but I was too young and I saw them more like my idols). And now, as someone who works in a creative industry (even though it's not music related), I found that their artistry just get better and stronger, individually and as a group. Music wise, visual wise, performance wise, etc. I love it when they talk about behind story of their music, the struggle, the development, and how everything came out. When they talk about it, you can clearly see that's how artists' minds works.
What I love about SHINee is that every member is super talented, there is no extra member or the less talented. So proud of being a Shawol. Also I find SHINee songs way to different from other kpop groups, and their japanese songs are from another world. Please stand them!!!
SHINee has always been the biggest trend setter in the industry. I always love listening to them they are my OG group. I love that they have always been able to harmonize brilliantly, as well as that jonghyun was always able to be either the really coming voice of a performance or be more of a backing vocal letting the others shine. They are one of the most respected groups. Your definitely right when you say that if asked any of the newer groups or older ones will say that SHINee or one of the members got them interested in being an idol or is someone the deeply respect and look up to.

I've always loved how with every comeback they always have fresh, unique, and unexpected concepts. I don't know any other groups that have done concepts like: a wacky Halloween party, colorful 90s "New Jack Swing" nostalgia, being kidnapped by foreign girls?, detectives solving a mystery in an 1800s-like museum, etc.
Listen i'm not a shinee fan but no one can deny that shinee IS the blueprint, so many years after their debut and they're still one of the most well rounded and talented group of idols out there.

in my humble opinion, jonghyun will always be the king of vocals, but onew is DEFINITELY a close second. in terms of vocal technique, they’re equal - the breath support and stability is absolutely equal in every sense of the word.

actually, i find SM Entertaiment's marketing is too involved that the concert concepts and titles are copyrightable material - from the SuJu's supershows, Shinee's Shinee world series to Exo's Exo== sets (OK Suju's and Shinee's are simply Supershow and Shinee World + number...) but they make a mark.
Fun fact: shawols are pretty much the ones that started the trend of having “fansites” and were dubbed as “cannon goddesses” bc they’d carry around humongous camera lenses to take pictures of shinee 😊 Not only the group, but the fandom is out here setting standards heh

I’m not super into kpop (not a deep “stan”) but I just found out about him dying and was sad for a bit then looked up his death and found out it was a suicide and now I feel like crying. I barely know this group but this is heartbreaking
In my opinion they are the first group to try different styles of song and also broke lots of stereotypes and yet rocked it. They never had nor will have a bad song!!! Every single member is so precious for me!!! Being SHAWOL is the best decision I have ever taken.... They are LEGENDS!!!!!!

When he sang Nessun Dorma (opera song) he was also really good language-wise. I'm Italian and usually when foreigners sing in Italian is sound "weird" (in a cute way!) but his pronunciation was basically perfect! I'm impressed, he must have practiced a lot to get it right!
Yeah. I noticed too that his pronunciation in italian is perfect.
I think that's just something about Onew. Even learning a new language, he can imitate the accent REALLY well. For example, he is far from being fluent in English, but when he does speak it/sing it, his pronunciation is top notch.

As an Italian, I can say that Onew has no doubt the best pronounciation I have ever heard from any foreing singer. He must have spent so much time training for it while preparing for the performance, he's great!
Shinee really setting bar too high for their musicality. The way their music always one step ahead of time and challenging themselves with different genre. Not forget that 5 of them as solo artist has their own color that perfectly shows their own.

I used to think that groups were overall lip-syncing when performing and I was fine with that because they were also dancing. Then I saw a Shinee performance. I can't remember what song but I could hear the live vocals and were also performing hard choreography. Shinee elevated my standards for live singing during performances.

I saw that on Twitter in 2018: someone had been visiting the editorial room of YH Sketchbook while they were editing SHINee's appearance (I think they did View, Good Evening and I know the clip with YH trying to dance along to MOVE is from that date too), and the visitors were asking (since YH Sketchbook prides itself of their guests only singing live when they appear there) if that was really live because they were dancing so hard.
So the editor pd-nim took away the BGM and they could only hear t heir voices and the hard breathing from the dancing.
Those people uploaded that clip to twitter, they weren't even Shawol from what I remember. I don't have a link to that, but I was so impressed that I remember the occasion.

I’m no longer a kpop fan, but SHINee performances are the ones I always go back to. Doesn’t matter if I’ve seen it at least 10 times, their performances are always worth repeating. Their vocals, dance and overall energy are this good.

You mentioned that so many younger idols looked up to or claimed that SHINee inspired them to become an idol and it reminded me of a video I watched recently. It was the reaction of younger kpop idols to SHINee's performance at the 2023 MMA. I don't know if their performance wasn't announced, but so many of them were absolutely floored when they came out. Pretty much all of them got out of their seats and started cheering and dancing. As a Shawol, it was truly amazing to watch.

Oh, here's a couple more:
- They do some of these high energy dances on rising stages, and some of them get really high and are pretty narrow! I'm always impressed when a group can do that, but I've yet to see a group do it as much as these guys have.
- During Shinee World IV, in the song Stranger, Jonghyun runs back to mainstage after dancing, climbs a flight of stairs and then belts a high note, then comes back down to rejoin the choreo. WTH?!
- Also, they literally end the Shinee World V concert (pre-encore) with Everybody, and dance it hard. Two and a half hours in, they do that choreo. I remember the first time I saw that, I literally shouted at the screen, I was in such disbelief they were performing that so far into a set. No wonder in the encore they congratulated themselves for no one getting injured during two nights back-to-back. (Everyone should watch the Shinee World V concert. These guys do an equivalent of a marathon in dancing. It is so impressive.)
- Taemin's Press Your Number choreo. That one part. If you've seen it, you know what I'm talking about. Whoa.

It reminded me of the reason i became a Shawol in the first place, i can't believe it's been almost 9~10 years since i became their fan and this video made me miss them so much, they definitely are legends without a doubt and seeing more people recognizing that makes me very happy! and i can tell you that they definitely are lucky to find each other
i remember back when married to the music was out and there were less and less fans supporting them (just realized that was 5 years ago ...damn), it broke my heart because i knew they deserved more recognition for their talents and abilities, as a multi-stan myself i understand that people's interests change to what is new and fresh , but that doesn't stop you from keeping an eye on them from time to time and supporting them whenever you can, either way SHINEE will always remain Kings in my eyes and i'm happy i got to see them grow and become inspirations to many , i mean look at Taemin 12 years ago he was just a fetus who used to slay every girl group dance in existence 😊 now he's making Art on stage ♥

I only joined kpop in 2018 and I’m so upset I was so late and missed these guys when they were the most active :( They are by far the best performers in all of kpop.

SHINee was the group that got me into kpop. they were my first. I've never been more proud or more heartbroken. But even though Jonghyun is gone, the others continue to uphold their legacy and make him proud. they are the brightest star in the sky
I started calling SHINee artists instead of idols as early as their Sherlock era. And it was around when I went to an art school, during Misconception of You release when I get it that they're true artists. (I followed SHINee since late 08 early 09, but I was too young and I saw them more like my idols).
And now, as someone who works in a creative industry (even though it's not music related), I found that their artistry just get better and stronger, individually and as a group. Music wise, visual wise, performance wise, etc. I love it when they talk about behind story of their music, the struggle, the development, and how everything came out. When they talk about it, you can clearly see that's how artists' minds works.

I love that they have always been able to harmonize brilliantly, as well as that jonghyun was always able to be either the really coming voice of a performance or be more of a backing vocal letting the others shine. They are one of the most respected groups. Your definitely right when you say that if asked any of the newer groups or older ones will say that SHINee or one of the members got them interested in being an idol or is someone the deeply respect and look up to.

I've always loved how with every comeback they always have fresh, unique, and unexpected concepts. I don't know any other groups that have done concepts like: a wacky Halloween party, colorful 90s "New Jack Swing" nostalgia, being kidnapped by foreign girls?, detectives solving a mystery in an 1800s-like museum, etc.
No matter what other's bring to the table. SHINee did it first and slayed.
Listen i'm not a shinee fan but no one can deny that shinee IS the blueprint, so many years after their debut and they're still one of the most well rounded and talented group of idols out there.
