Practicing hands separately is mentally difficult, and voices separately is even worse. But it works!.With some pieces it seems that the more we suffer during practice, the less we will suffer when performing on stage. The choice is ours!
This advice is gold.
Thank you!!!
After a short and unwilling period of absense from e-education and culture in general, i was really surprised to meet again with you, all by incidence. Your "recepe" is of a wizzard's, suggesting deep tecnique knowledge of the etude and sparkling inner mood. It is a pity i have not yet completed your tutorial analysis all over the total of these demanding works. Please, believe me, Mo Niemczuk, I always try to enjoy each video of yours as best as i can, by submurging my soul and spirit in the absolute space of your Music. Thank you so much !!!
You convey such a joy in practising in your video. It's positively infectious 😁👍.
Thank you for the many tips and for the structured approach to this etude. Another great video from you! 👌💖
Thank you so much!
Exactitude and integrity make these tutorials amongst the best on UTube.
Greg avoids “Disney - Can Do “Platitudes. Instead he shows you an excellence which is built on dedication…That the dedication is the ‘gift’.
The only thing I would say is that if you play the upper part of the right hand on it’s own without running though with the lower part your’ risk practicing fingerlings
that don’t work with the two parts . The top notes are either 3~5 or 4~5 and sometimes the lower part dictates which one…( I don’t think you are necessarily saying this btw!).
Some internal. rotation -Towards the thumb side -on the first of each pair and with a slight ‘semi slur’ on each pair also will help as well…although this will be almost imperceptible at speed.
This is a great tutorial
Yes exactly so important in chopin though I really find this etude enchanted by the shimmering harmonic musicality of this piece and would play through it for amusement . What I did that I think it was think has a similarity with the video is that I thought of it as a string quartet, playing each voice to see where it belonged with what instument then putting them together so I eventually ended up learning it for the love of the music.
Very good idea!
This has completely turned around my thinking on how to practice this piece. Progress stalled lately and after about 20 minutes of playing around with some of these techniques I'm seeing improvements already. Hopefully I can improve speed & accuracy in time. Thanks :)
Yeeeey! So happy to hear that
I watched this video when started this piece. And I'm kinda getting it. After watching your video of op25 6 that you tell us there are characters, I got to know I was right that I figured this etude No7 is an Opera or some love story which a man(Chopin/ left hand) and a woman(the melody which the pinky of a right hand makes) are having a fight. The structure is Fight->Going thought their romantic memories-> back to fight- >Making love& reached orgasm- pillow talk- >somehow they get really messed by arguing - music has to end but this fight actually continued in his real life and they broke up eventually. Before I did this analysis, I couldn't even remember the notes at all. After I made up this messed up love story, somehow I started remembering it. Very dramatic etude, I'm addicted to it. Thank you for the lesson:)
Lovely description! Fantastic! Thank you!
Thank you for your useful lesson ❤
Thanks! Happy practising sounds good. I am still on op. 10/2. It needs also a lot of happy practising. 😅
I enjoy your videos every time. 🙋♀️
Very inspiring. I haven’t heard this one before. I am anxious to try it. Thanks Maestro! (Ps What year was this performance? Also, why do you say unpleasant? Can you talk more about that?)
It's unpleasant for the right hand... Because of constant repetitions in the lower voice and uncomfortable hand position
Ist die Rechte Hand von der Bewegung her ähnlich wie im Nokturn op. 15, 1, T. 25 bis 30 ? Danke für Antwort
What edition do you recommend?
My teacher told me to choose one chopin etude to play this year, and i choose op 10 no 4, learnt 2 pages , but than i heard this etude, and i will beg her to change it, but is it worth it?
Yes!!!!!!!!
I learned this piece 6 years ago but haven’t played it since
Mr.
May I ask which edition is good, which edition you use, plz?
Yes, I'm using Jan Ekier. But Paderewski is also good I think
if you can't play all dwudźwięki correctly, just push pedal and you'll survive somehow
Hahahah, of course, but that's not the advice for professional level!
No, dear Greg. This is not a staccato etude, You just do not do what Chopin wants us to play.. He clearly writes that the upper line should be played legato. That means that this etude is very often played far too fast in order to show one‘s excellent technique, If we want to play according to Chopin‘s intention (indicated by the bows) we must not play thiis masterpiece in such a mechanical machinelike way. Read what Bronislaw von Pozniak wrote about the musical aspect of the Chopin etudes.
Thank you. But I just want you to answer me one question: what would you say about Chopin's original tempo marking?
Staccato with pedal sounds like LEGATO and Chopin new it very well. He was more intelligent than all of us together.
By the way, have you watched my analysis of this Etude? It's on a separate video. There I'm talking more about all that.
