I just graduated yesterday. Trust me when i say its easy. The toughest part is honestly the mental aspects. Missing home. Missing things you used to do like listening to music or playing video games. They'll yell at you and curse you out. You go down to the OOD (officer of the deck) to report when you're the roving security watch of your compartment. You get nervous and dont say the proper words. They look at you and call you curse words and that you're stupid. Dont let it get to you. At RTC they dont actually hate you. You didn't cause the world to end because you called a chief a petty officer. They know youre learning and dont understand everything. Just let them chew you out. Try again. if you get it right cool. If not they'll curse you out again. Just say no (rank) or yes (rank) or aye aye (rank). If i can do it. Trust me you can do it.
I went thru Boot Camp at San Diego the summer of ‘79. I turned 18 while I was there. Went on to do twenty great years globe trottingas a CTR. I “retired” at the ripe old age of 37, and was recruited into Federal service, from which I retired about three months ago. And now every day is Saturday. SO, all of you who are about to start this journey need to have faith in your shipmates, and especially have faith in yourselves. About three days in you’ll ask yourself “what have I done..”. Hang in there, keep your ears and eyes open, pay attention to detail. Before you know it you’ll be walking tall at graduation and heading off to A/C School. I envy you! P.S. Practice your handwriting! You’ll be issued stationary (look it up) to snail-mail out letters. So you may want to get a little address book, too.
Damn it's changed a lot since I was in. I reported to RTC Great Lakes 21 March 1994. It used to be you marched to a different building for chow, same with classes.
The best food I had was in boot camp and A school. Was eating like a Damm king 🤣 once you get to the ship though it’s a whole other story depending where you go
I graduated not long ago, the first week or two are the worst, after you get used to it it gets better, and if you’re lucky towards the end you’re RDCs will be relatively chill, and they switch to teaching you more about your life in the fleet.
Wow! Basic has greatly changed from my time (3-11 to 5-3 '85, CO 085, 14th Div). Although it's more real-Navy applicable, it actually resembles my future Army service many years later (7-18-08 to 7-1-23, retired) with its formations. Except for marching, it was never that formal.
I went through Boot Camp in 1986. Since then, it seems they tore everything down, and rebuilt it. Recruit Division Commanders, as they are called today, we're Company Commanders then. You answered them , "Yes, Sir", or " No, Sir," regardless of their rank.
I have to wait my process until January 2025, or any day that i can get advised to travel. Because first i am supposed to get a permanent resident card. Then i can legally travel from Honduras where i stay at Tambla Lempira to the United States ,its just me but i do will need a hint.
I am born in Honduras i dont have white priveleges, and im fully hondurean i grew up in the USA, i went to school i am 23 years old, if i get to travel by January i may serve the Navy, and requiring my mom Deysi she lives in Kansas to have an attorney with a legal status , for her because she from Honduras too. I have diplomas by the way, but not a ged or a bachelors degree, i think after graduation from Navy a college degree can be more important for me , im smart ❤ and very peaceful educated , good person.
I graduated a few days ago from boot camp. A few things you should know: 1. Don't let other recruits bother you so much. That is the most stressful thing about being in your compartment. 2. Try to sleep as much as possible and drink lots of water. This is so you aren't tired in class and you aren't dehydrated. If you drink a lot of water, you can use the head (bathroom) during class to stay awake. 3. Study your training guide during free time, especially when you're on watch. I would even suggest you ask to be on ship staff (you clean for like an hour everyday around the ship and stand watch every 2 days). 4. Learn to tie a bowline knot. Not very important, but being the person who knows how to tie it is a very good idea so you can teach others how to do it. 5. Listen and do as you're told, even if it sounds stupid or unusual. Don't argue with leadership and try not to be noticed by the RDCs for anything bad. 6. Don't get mixed with the wrong crowd. There are going to be idiots in your DIV, don't be associated with them, then you'll find yourself getting in trouble because you associate with them. Often they cause the DIV more harm because they fall out of line more often than not. Good luck, be sure to journal stuff so you have a way of actually voicing yourself because the RDCs can seem very distant and it's usually very difficult to talk to a chaplain.
I'm thinking about joining the navy just to join the Marines. I'm to old to join the Marines, however I'm not old enough to join the navy. If I should go ahead with this I will have to to do two years in the navy and request to be transferred to the Marines. If I'm accepted I will have to go through Marines boost camp. If I don't pass the Marines boot camp I will not be able to be a Marine.

Why are Navy Recruits the only ones out of all other branches to hold their hand underneath their mouths when being exposed to the CS Gas? I’m just curious. It’s something I’ve noticed compared to watching the branches go through it.
It makes sense to do cause it gets yucky when they don't. Maybe it's something they started doing more recently and that is the reason? But if it's only Navy that's pretty weird
@@JocelynR2007 As ridiculous as it sounds, my thought it is that they have to learn to do that because they’ll be on a ship & this could happen. If they catch their snot, it’ll prevent it from other sailors from slipping on it.
