Totally agree with your points on indicator issues. I’ve also noticed a number of recent cars also have this issue with ‘stylish’ rather than practical indicators that are close to useless. Like you pointed out, a greater issue on the moto highlighting the absolute need to use those mirrors. Love your work, stay safe from Tasmania. 🏍🐧👍🇦🇺

I've wondered how these issues aren't found before things go to market.
Surely, bmw could turn off the brake light when the indicators are working.

Totally agree with you Toby re indicators, same issue on my 2019 Exclusive, always resetting the indicator. The issue re the indicators is a bit concerning though. My favourite tyres on a GSA are Conti Trail Attack 3s, great grip and handling and they have a great life span. The app works now but I prefer using Google maps on my iPhone, I have a cheap mount that fits in the BMW cradle.

I'm sooooooooooo glad you addressed this issue with the indicators - I thought I was being really picky but it is dangerous I think. I believe you can ask BMW to completely remove the function so they are only changeable manually (so remove the 'auto' feature) and I'm going to do that hopefully later today as it's driving me nuts. Nice bike by the way - I only have a little C400GT. Ride safe my friend 🙂

My 2014 GS has the indicators that self cancel after 300m, that's WAY too long after a turn to have the indicator turn off.
And I'm on the second screen on my Navigator VI after the first one started ghosting. Very easy to replace.

I agree I love my 2019 GS1250 and had the same problem with the indicators but got the dealership to change the settings. I also had the same problem with my old satnav and ended up contacting Garmin who said they know about the problem and in some cases, it's due to water seepage around the seal and over a period of time this breaks down. They sent me a new updated version in the end. Are they bringing out a new satnav? The connected app is rubbish, I gave up on it after the first year of having the bike. Tyres - Yes had two sets of the A41's with no problems although I did go through two fronts for every one rear, but for a change this time I got Road Pilot Trials and they are excellent.

Same thing on my ktm 1090, I want to indicate sooner coming up to a roundabout but I’m mindful that if I do it might bloody cancel itself while I’m mid manoeuvre 🙄 it’s dangerous in my opinion, I don’t know if there’s anyway to extend the time it’s indicating 🤔at the moment it seems to be 10 seconds which isn’t long enough ☹️

I love my 2021 GS A Rallye too though had similar issues with the indicators; I found myself second guessing if I’d actually out them on so having to make extra effort to keep an eye out on them. I’ll be asking my dealer at the 6K service what can be done. The rear light combo is an issue and I know many who have not bought this variant because of this potential to be rear ended; I’ve not had an issue on my 120 daily commute, though know not will worry some so be greater to have as an option perhaps?🤔

    Great bike !
In fact, got the exact same a couple of months ago ;-)
My son told me the same thing regarding the break lights / indicators after following me with his bike, but only when breaking of course, and in daylight (not so at night).
Decided I would not be a coward anymore and would stop using the breaks ^^
Just have to put the indicators earlier...
Except that they self cancel !
This self cancelling thing : I like it when just changing lane or overtaking. The 5 blinks or X meters is fine.
But, like u say, when exiting a highway, or at a roundabout, or at a traffic light, you keep asking yourself "did I put the turn light on ?" or "hope it holds long enough" (uh, yeah, only talking about turn signal there...).
I understand you really liked the Roadtec 01, but since Mark also really liked the Dunlop Mutant, and the Meridian, could you tell why you would still go to the Roadtec ? (got Michelin Anakee Adventure with the bike, and don't like the feel of them, especially in cold and wet weather)
Thx for all the tips and reviews !

They definitely need changing and not sure how they passed homologation. Perhaps it was the same person that agreed to Smart Motorways! With regards to the Battlax A41’s, they go off very quickly and found them slippy. They are crap and now use Pirelli’s

Clearly I am in a minority here as I don't have any issues with the self cancelling winkies at all. I have to say that I did learn on a bike that didn't have this feature and out of habit pretty much always cancel my indicators manually. The SC feature is a bit of a safety net. But in general there are things in life that annoy me far more than this. I do however have an issue with the indicator button. It's awful. Just not positive at all. Every time I use it, it feels like it's broken. Compare it to say the Triumph and it's really second class. I find myself having to look down to make sure my indicators are actually on when I press the switch. I'm glad I don't have the fancy lamps though. You're right, they are really poor. I was thinking about a upgrade to those, but you've convinced me otherwise.

A quick question if I may. When riding the 1250 what is your ideal rev. range? I was riding a couple of days ago with an "Avanced Rider Instructor", and tried telling me that I ought to be between 6,000 & 8,000. I Never myself ride in that range. I find with my style of riding, between 3,000.and 5,000. It would be great to hear your views. Best regards James (Retired in Spain), Riding 25 to 30 thousand kms a year.

I'm a gs1250 owner and recently did a tour and spent two of the days with an advanced rider. End of the first day he commented when we filled up I had used three litres more fuel than him so next day I deliberately short shifted and kept the revs lower. As well as using less fuel I felt smoother and think I was flowing through corner better so I would say your instructor doesn't understand how much grunt and engine breaking the gs has even at lower revs. Hope you don't mind me giving my opinion.

    • @markholroyd5365
      @markholroyd5365 2 года назад +2

What is the red zone on your Rev counter? Half it and about 500rpm either side is the ideal rev range. So at 70mph it is probably reading 4000rpm on a 1250gsa? Your ideal rev range would then be between 3500-4500 give or take. Let us know how that feels. You will find that on a bend you are having to ‘power’ around the bend which is great as it gives you more control. Ride safe.
