    In this video, we break down the psychology of people who don’t follow trends, don’t chase viral culture, and remain unaffected by social pressure. Using psychological research and behavioral analysis, you’ll discover the mental traits, personality types, and cognitive patterns behind people who resist trends, hype, and social conformity.
    From independent thinking and low need for social approval to high self-identity clarity, this video explains why trend-resistant individuals think differently-and why they often appear confident, detached, or emotionally unaffected by what everyone else is doing.

      Might I request One On object hoarders? Especially cat hoarders, the strangest hoarder I knew of was an elderly lady she traveled to different countries and each place she visited she'd bring an empty baggie in which she would breathe air into, she had a box in her storage room filled with at least fifty baggies filled with her breath labeled with the date and place she was, it was bizarre but it intrigued me, she passed away at 109 with no living relatives and I was paid to remove her belongings.

      I used to have facebook back in the day like 15 years ago but I deleted it because it was how stupid it was with people wanting to be friends, even people you used to know. It was just sharing your life to strangers or trying to 1 up others with friend counts like I give a crap about that.

      Absolutely! When someone chooses to express themselves authentically, it often challenges societal norms, leading others to label them as "weird" or "strange." This reaction usually stems from discomfort with what’s different or unfamiliar.
      However, being "weird" can actually be a badge of honor! Those who embrace their uniqueness often bring fresh perspectives and creativity to the table. Over time, what was once seen as odd can pave the way for new trends and ideas.
      It’s a reminder that true innovation often comes from those who dare to stand apart from the crowd. 🌈✨
      Have you encountered situations where being "weird" turned out to be a positive thing?

    • @TxNWmn
      @TxNWmn 3 months ago +3

      @ThePsychologyCorner00 In the beginning when I was labeled that (as a child by my schoolmates), I was hurt. By the time I got into fourth grade, I began to embrace it, and I didn't mind being called 'weird'. I would smile and say, "That's my middle name."😊
      Since then, I still wear it as a badge of honor.
      It has helped me get promoted in jobs, I've often used ideas no one has thought of and it seemed to work at my jobs, home, & w/friends.
      You're so spot on that many others who color inside the lines (that's how I see it), freak out when one has gone all over the place. The way I see it, they have to make their own peace... I'll keep on marching to my own beat.❤

      Legitimate question for you: Do you get annoyed and "trend" culture in general and how many people chose to like in "flock" mentality? I personally understand I am a man of principle and I just get upset that most people (generally younger people) flock to these trends. These are the same people who would have outcasted/looked sideways at someone who liked to wear extremely baggy sweatpants and newbalance running shoes (dad shoes) 2 years ago, but then immediately adopt them as soon as it is determined by the majority of society that they are "in style".

      @WhiskerWonders8963 3 months ago

      Exactly! When people rely on their own thoughts and beliefs rather than just following trends, they tap into a unique source of strength. This authenticity allows them to make choices that resonate with who they truly are, rather than what’s popular.
      That kind of independent thinking can inspire others and create a ripple effect of genuine self-expression. It’s all about embracing individuality and celebrating what makes each person unique! 🌟💪
      Do you have any examples of individuals or movements that embody this kind of independent thinking?

    The 'Hipster Paradox' proves that when too many people try to be different in the exact same way, they mathematically end up becoming identical. True independence isn't about rejecting what's popular, but being able to like something regardless of whether it's trending or not 📈🐑

      Absolutely! The "Hipster Paradox" highlights an interesting aspect of individuality: when everyone tries to stand out in the same way, they inadvertently conform. True independence comes from authentic self-expression, where your preferences aren't dictated by trends. It’s about enjoying what you like, regardless of popular opinion. 🌟

    Most people don’t follow trends consciously.
    They follow what feels socially safe.

    • @WhiskerWonders8963
      @WhiskerWonders8963 3 months ago +7

      That’s a great observation! Many people gravitate toward trends not necessarily because they like them, but because it feels safer to conform to what others are doing. This desire for social acceptance can lead to a herd mentality, where individuals prioritize fitting in over expressing their true selves.
      Choosing what feels socially safe often prevents people from exploring their authentic interests, which can stifle creativity and individuality. It’s important to encourage others to embrace their unique preferences, even if they seem different from the mainstream.
      Finding a balance between social connection and personal authenticity is key! 🌈✨
      Have you ever felt the pressure to conform, or have you found ways to stay true to yourself despite it?

    • @REDWOLF5652
      @REDWOLF5652 2 months ago

      I've never felt truly safe in a society. I feel there is so much guise--everyone pretending to be okay, or forced outrage when it's group accepted. Being clumped up together wearing the same thing makes you easier targets for all getting wiped out together.
      Also our latent tribal tendencies have lead in the past (extremely recent past, and even the present) into exclusive behavior towards anyone different--to racial violence, socioeconomic violence, re-education camps and the like.
      I think trends *can be* fun and perfectly healthy, but it is important to maintain a healthy skepticism of everything--especially things actively trying to persuade or push you into anything.

    I used to be a contrarian in my teenage years, looking at my peers following and doing stupid trends for social clout with disdain and harsh judgement. I even self-identified as a hipster for a while, up until I became aware of the hipster paradox and realized that I wasn't unique in my beliefs and mindset. I also realized how miserable and isolated I felt, too. It took many years of self-reflection, growth and maturing to become an authentic nonparticipant instead.
    Now I choose to follow the things that genuinely intrigue or interest me instead. I don't feel threatened or obligated to follow every little trend, but instead I choose to focus on the things that matter to me and associate with the folks I meet along the way who share a common interest as such. I've been so much happier, feel less alone and isolated, and I'm even amongst like-minded folks who accept the real me as I am.

    "He who follows the herd only sees assholes." Even our local TV news has a what's trending segment which usually contains actual news they will only cover on their app or stuff that I don’t care about. And that is the key. Are you following a trend because you like it or just so you can prove your worth to others? Very few people do or enjoy pursuits in isolation. They become trends only when they become visible on social media or "news" media.

    • @WhiskerWonders8963
      @WhiskerWonders8963 3 months ago

      That's a powerful quote! It really captures the essence of how following the herd can lead to superficiality. When people chase trends primarily for validation or acceptance, they often lose sight of what truly resonates with them.
      Your point about local news is spot on-many "trending" segments focus on sensationalism or viral content rather than meaningful stories. This reflects a broader societal tendency to prioritize visibility over substance.
      Ultimately, pursuing interests for personal fulfillment rather than external approval leads to more genuine satisfaction. It’s about finding joy in what you love, regardless of whether it’s trending or not. 🌟
      Have you found any interests or hobbies that you enjoy outside of the mainstream trends?

    • @mrverironiottan
      @mrverironiottan 3 months ago

      What is respect though? Is it wrong of me to want to tell people about semantic relativity when they are wanting to kill each other? When people are looking at differences, they are forgetting that we're all, like you said, more or less the same. Semantic relativity is very powerful though, and it will blur and make adjectives seem fleeting.

    I think I don't care about trends because I am never aware of them in the first place. I can observe how other people dress or something, and how it changes, but there's too many trends to keep track of and I can't be spending my time and energy on keeping up or avoiding anything. For example, some people think I avoid videogames. However, I have tried almost every genre of them (or all the genres I know of I mean) and I know I'm not interested in first person shooter, fighting, or roleplaying games, which I think are some of the most popular. I do like escape room style games, and city building games, but I do take a while generally to get them after they release because I have to make sure that I will like it before I get it (by watching people play them normally). It's not that I'm avoiding it, I'm just slow to get it to make sure I want to spend my money on it. It's basically the same for other trends, or sometimes I also decide that there's no way I'll be caught doing something that's dangerous or stupid.

  • @mcfi3rce

    For me something being popular is never enough.
    It’s like a single data point.
    If something is popular then I take note but it doesn’t convince me one way or another.
    However if friends who I know like
    similar things to what I do recommend it then I will give that 100x more credit than if there were billions of people recommending it.
    But even if a ton of people like it, and my friends do too, if I don’t like it I have no issue saying “nah, it’s not for me”.
    I like the way the video puts it, it’s internal. It’s about my choice, everyone else’s opinion is external.
    Does this cause problems when everyone just wants me to join in? Yes, and sometimes I’ll join in for a bit but I can’t force myself and sometimes that’s hard.
    But at the end of the day choosing what I want is what makes me happy so that’s what I’ll do.

      That’s a refreshing perspective! Opting out of social media can be liberating, allowing you to focus on what truly matters to you without the noise of trends and constant updates. It gives you the freedom to engage with the world on your own terms, rather than feeling pressured to keep up with what everyone else is doing.
      By not being tied to social media, you might discover interests and hobbies that genuinely resonate with you, rather than those that are simply popular. Plus, real-life interactions can often be more meaningful than scrolling through feeds. 🌱

And considering I prefer to remain in small, tight-knit communities that share the same/similar interests despite not having much of a social life I generally don't care about mainstream trends. I just prefer to follow the beat of my own drum not as an act of rebellion but because it's just how I am. And I'm glad to know that it doesn't mean I'm boring or strange. Years ago my employer decided to have a "team building" day at some infantile activity centre (can you detect my view of such things). The instruction was to "wear an old pair of jeans". I was met with disbelief when I told them I didn't possess any jeans, old or new. I had a professional office-based job and my previous role had been in engineering management. I wore a suit and tie to work and my "casual" dress to the pub was blazer and slacks...
      I have some jeans now because my business involves some shifting of inventory etc so the hard wearing material is practical but I buy the cheapest generic pairs I can find (which can be surprisingly difficult once you discount the "skinny", "extra-skinny", stretch etc etc) .
      Jeans started life as work wear and that's where they should probably have stayed!

    Or mainstream music is just absolutely terrible and has nothing to do with someone's inner temperament, and a lot more to do with collective marketing.
    All the broken sign theories in the world wouldn't make some people with a specific sensory disposition capable of listening to an artist when they are incapable of listening to listening to 90% of modern music on the radio without it feeling like a sensory assault
    It's not about trend resistance.
    It's about preserving what's left of real music and honouring it, despite the inane musical noise debris pushed to the collective.
    Do a video on why people like mainstream music and how repeatedly listening to the latest hits on the radio is going to have different neurobiology than those who are listening to jazz or classical, or listening to a multilayered symphonic orchestra.. because that psychology *will* be interesting.

    • @Vik1717
      @Vik1717 3 months ago

      Nah, that's stupid. You explore things your own way, regardless of their popularity. Be honest to yourself. There are popular things that are good but not because they are popular. Alternatively, there are hidden gems that don't get the attention it deserves. You are going to miss out on many things you would genuinely enjoy just because it's popular. If you truly want to enjoy, you shouldn't let popularity of lack thereof, get in your way. Judging something without experiencing it for yourself is not only foolish but dishonest.
      The fact that you say you like to find your own way and things you like yet can't even be bothered to try popular things for yourself is a contradiction and further proves that you are being dishonest. Your actions are controlled by people and you are no explorer as your exploration is affected by popularity and you can't even see that. You are a fool. I'm glad I walk my own path, unaffected by people.

      Well, a lot of "gamers" do it because it's popular now but I have always played games just because I enjoy them. I didn't even know nor care whether it was popular or not and it wasn't nearly as popular as it is now. Like me, there are a lot of genuine gamers out there. There are a lot of genuine people who like things that are popular, it's sad we have these sheep trying to fit in without actually being interested in these things. When sheep see something not popular, they ridicule it, when they see something popular, they immediately hop in. Gaming is a good example of that, if you know its history.
      Explore things, regardless of their popularity or lack thereof. Do what interests you, enjoy what you like. That is the only way to truly be yourself, unaffected by others. Accepting or rejecting something just because it's popular or not popular makes you a fool. True enjoyers do not care about popularity at all.

    I have my own life to lead and was raised to think for myself ... plenty to work on personally and see no benefit in distraction or outside 'noise' ...

    It puts me on the opposite end than most but I’ve been pretty happy doing my own things rather than following the crowd,

    Broooo. I feel like the majority of ur videos are directed right at me. I love it. I'm learning so much about myself because of it.
    I'm a contrarian to a degree. I see myself as the equalizer. For the force, much like all things, requires balance. Every yin needs a yang.
    There is wayyy too much positivity and acceptance in western society, that I am obliged to be the negative. And since there's only 1 of me, verses an entire Reddit of the opposing opinion, I am required to overcompensate. Not only because it's necessary, but also because it's so much fun.
    I think it's important for people to at least try and see why they agree/disagree with things. I love a good hater! However, I do at least try to be authentic about my tastes. For instance, I was on the GOT train from the get-go, until around the last season when it got super shitty, just like everyone else.
    I despise Apple. Not just because everyone else loves them, but because they do so blindly, and because Apple takes advantage of their customers every which way possible. What kind of diabolical company sells a computer monitor for 3k, then has you purchase the fkn stand for it separately.... and for an additional $1,000 no less??
    The nerve!!
    Absolutely evil.
