I used to love watching the boats going across The Round Pond (octagonal pond?) in Kensington Gardens as a child, I think people still do this. Many of them managed just with a long stick, although there were a few guys with remote control boats even then, which usually saved having to wade out to rescue a becalmed boat, at least till the batteries ran out.
My level was more the narrow slip ponds in the former Festival gardens at Battersea Park, where the remnants of Emmett's railway, though with more everyday rolling stock and coaches, still ran around the far end of the park. It's a shame that the opportunity hasn't been taken (with the iconic Power Station being redeveloped) for the Emmett Railway to be reinstated?
I love your railway and its 'boating pond' extension. I look forward to seeing its evolution. Also, your Tintin figures seem to work unexpectedly well in a very different environment!

Your right, it was octagonal and probably a little deeper than I remember, as for some strange reason I was quite eager to get in, as my father recalled, most weekends two gentlemen would come down with a show stopping tug boat which I believe was live steam, it really did draw a crowd. I saved my pocket money for a few months until I over heard one of them say that it wasn't a kit and they had built it between them. I wonder how popular Emetts railway would be today if it were to be reinstated ? I for one would give up time and money to help in anyway I could, also, I think its a great shame the Rowland E society is no longer avalibele to join, I was told it was having a new web site and would be unavailable for a while but that was over a year ago. Thank you for the kind words re the layout, its gone down a little better than I thought it would with folk. All the best, Carl

Love the story about the yacht. I used to play with mine in a boating lake when on holiday in Scarborough as a lad. You've got me wanting one again now! Looking forward to see how you develop this new layout.

Hello Peter, the funny thing about the yachts we both used to play with is I saw one on a local second hand stall, I looked at it for a long time but the lady would not come down in what she wanted for it, it was in fantastic condition , I think it had never been in water, probably been on a shelf for 50 plus years as it was dusty, but she was asking £80, to this day I think should I or shouldn't I have bought it, all the best to you Carl

Great to see you back on the layout Carl. I enjoyed the recent changes that you have made, despite being hard on yourself about the previous version. Now the summer is ending I am starting work on my Emett layout and last night was thinking how my steamboat/train was going to go around a lighthouse.
After your recommendation in previous videos, I too have bought a selection of Heathcote electronics and will be planning random happenings based on the infrared detector. Great to see that the witches hollow has made it through to the final cut, was worried that would disappear. I model 009 but the Smallbrooke stuff is such an inspiration. It's a pity that more people are not showing off their Emett stuff.
Looking forward to the next installment Carl. Thanks

Hi Tony, I'm pleased you like the changes made to the layout, like you, I tend to have more time in the winter and hope you document your Emett build on here, we need more of us. Liking the sound of your steamboat, Clive at Heathcote was a great find and has helped me alot especially when I just couldn't get my head around the reverse loops for a while. My new adventure is in 009, the boat train was very jerky in OO gauge but the Kato chassis is so smooth and very reliable. Think I'm going for a French cherry brandy works with the odd shark popping up as a theme but you know me, things might change. All the best, Carl

Excellent video and layout, love the skeleton, maybe a red LED for the lights might be better? Love the boat train keep up the great work.

I nearly used red Stephen, I should have run the idea past you first🙂I will get onto swapping them, Thanks for liking the boating lake, I think it will probably have a limited appeal, all the best

I really love Your miniature word! My Emett wagon kits did recently arrived but i think i need some more practice before i paint them. Fun fact is that they seem to be relatively compatible in size with my .22,3 Bachmann train set (Mrs Hamilton seem to fit the Bachmann train-drivers good enough in scale as well, so i guess they others in the Emett serie does too, i don't think the minor difference really does matter since as somebody said, humans come in all sizes and shapes), even if they are using different tracks, but i think the Emett train will fit perfectly as a narrow gauge track for the G scale setup which give some really interesting opportunities if one want to expand it in the future... (Bachmann made a lot of relativly sheap plastic models which one can modify and re paint with good conscience anyway... i Bought a used Denver Colorado set last year for my planned forest camp setup, but it is indeed a very large setup compared to Michaels models, probably like at least 6x the diameter of the turning radio...)
Did You made the hull for Mary Jane your self or does it came from some type of kit or toy?

Hi Vampi and thanks for liking the Emett layout. The first wagon I bought from Smallbrooke Studios I painted three times and got fed up and didn't do anything with it for 6 months, so stick at it and I'm sure yours will look great. I'm going to have to Google the Bachmann trains you talk about as I'm not familiar with them, but anything goes with Emett and as you say, size really doesn't matter. I hope you put some pictures or film up on RUclips so we can see what your up to, I'd be really interested to see, as there's not many of us modelling Emett. I managed to pick the Mary Jane boat up from our local market, it was a childs toy and had been well used. I see we both have an interest in Scuba diving although most of mine was done in the warm waters of Egypt, when I read you dived in the Baltic sea, it made me shiver, total respect to you. I will subscribe to your chanel and hopefully see your lovely Emett work. All the best.

@@carlroberts2539 Thank You! I realy love all of Your videos!
This is my junkyard channel, i hawe plans to put up a clean channel for my projects as soon as i got my thumb from my rear end and remember to film what i am doing.
My main interest is old 0 gauge tinplates, currently most of them are old Hornby and Basset Lowke, a few of them are livesteam but more on the toytrain level i guess. I also collect model steamplants like the old Wilesco and Märklin models (Yes i wold genuinely love to hawe one of those Stuart steamplants, but currently i can't afford one...), i don't know if any of those really count as actual steam, probably more hot water mist machines, but they are still fun and relatively easy to repair. I also kind of collect very old radios from the 1920-40s era.
Bachmann is not very good trains to be honest, the cheaper ones looks pretty cheesy and plastic and the scales are not very good either, i just happened to get a relatively good deal on the set from a guy on a Swedish MJ society, but i would not say it had been worth the import cost to buy the cheaper series from the US unless it happen to be something one specifically want. I think the cheaper series, like the big haulers (the better ones are called "spectrum line" but they are horrendously expensive for still being plastic models in my opinion) are standard G scale 1:22,5 LGB are miles better but at least where i live LGB are really expensive if one want the better looking models, and honestly i can't really drive the full size G scale train on my table except for a very short loop, the wagons are about 2 foot long each, they are probably more meant for garden railways or temporary rigs on the floor i guess, maybe there will be a combined 0 and G garden railway here in the future but not this year... :-)
I realy look forward to proceed with the Emett set, thank You a lot for all the inspiration which greatly helped me keeping up my motivation! Your setup reminds me of my grandparents cottage with the seashore.
