I know this is a different sport, but in soccer if you slide into someone cleats up, you’re out of the game. A studs up slide is almost always intentional. Should be an automatic ejection because that can seriously injure someone.

I liked the way all the Yankees tried to explain away the illegal slide. In that situation, you are supposed to slide on the outfield side of the bag. That's the rule.

Lol - Austin clearly spiked the middle infielder in the leg on the slide. Sorry kid, but that's just the way it works, you got what you deserved. How can the Yankee's players and manager say it was a clean slide. lol. I mean, OK it wasn't the worst ever but clearly spikes up into the leg.

To start with, clearly a deliberate slide into the infielder. Not only were Austin's spikes up, but his front foot was clearly aimed at Holt's leg rather than the base. By the time Austin hit him, Holt's foot wasn't even on the base anymore.
That said, it is just absurd that hitting people with pitches as "retaliation" is considered acceptable. Both those plays were deliberate efforts to injure someone, they're both equally unacceptable, and one does *not* validate the other. This culture in baseball that a few words exchanged should clear the benches and that HBPs are an acceptable form of retaliation for any perceived offense is just stupid.

You're wrong. The pitch was thrown at the meaty part of the body. He had it coming and everybody in the ballpark knew it.
Normally I’m against pitchers retaliating too, but I really can’t blame the guy since the umps missed what was clearly a deliberate effort to injure. Can’t have that conduct continue with impunity
For me, pitchers retaliating is inexcusable, regardless of any supposed cause or justification. The idea that retaliations are somehow "necessary" just seems silly, juvenile, and dangerous.
