  • A local documentary premiering at the 2024 Freep Film Festival, “The Best of the Best: Jazz from Detroit,” explores Detroit’s jazz legacy and impact on the world.
Host Stephen Henderson talks with co-producer and writer Mark Stryker at the Detroit Film Theatre, where the film will debut on April 13. They discuss the documentary’s content, Detroit's influence on modern jazz, and the conditions that existed in the city that contributed to the sounds of jazz in the 1940s.
Plus, the Detroit Institute of Arts’ “Regeneration: Black Cinema 1898-1971" exhibit highlights the trailblazing African American filmmakers and actors from the early days of cinema through the Civil Rights Movement.
