As a Mother of a Son who was in the military, I cry every time I watch this video. I am blessed that my Son never went to war and I hold each Mother and child who did in my prayers
This is a powerful message Sabaton gives us, in Lemmys words. My eyes will tear up at every reaction. Thanks for doing this reaction, the message needs to be spread. Originally from Motörhead. All different soldiers etc are nods to other Sabaton songs. Spartans, Bannockburn, Hellfighters, To Hell And Back, Screaming Eagles and many more. The Hammersmith bus is a nod to Motörheads album No sleep until Hsmmersmith. The abandoned open car in the intro is a nod to the car that archduke Franz Ferdinand was shot in at Sarajevo 1914. The planes from Nightwitches, Red Baron and No Bullets Fly.
The two Men Holding the Picture of Lemmy, are Mikkey Dee & Phil Campbell (Drummer & Guitarist). Sabaton filmed their video for "1916" in Birmingham. Lemmy Kilmister wrote this song after watching a UK television program about the 1916 Battle of the Somme on which a veteran reminisced about his friend dying in his arms with half his face blown off. "It came to me in a flash," he said. "The old guy is 88 all something, and he's still in tears about it. He walked through 25 feet of muddy s--t into the teeth of machine gun fire, all for nothing. - Lemmy Kilmister Me, I've watches this Video a dozen time or more, and my Eyes gets watery every time. What an amazing Tribute to Mötorhead.
The line that gets to me is, “...and now there’s nobody remembers our names.” Some of us still do. My grandfather (who really was from Accrington) was part of the Accrington Pals and one of the 350 from that regiment wounded at Serre during the Battle of the Somme; 235 of his comrades were killed in the first half hour of the battle. He lost a leg and went home with “shell shock.” My father never knew him, as he died ten years later, when Dad was only 2. He was 31. His death from pneumonia was a direct result of the mustard gas he inhaled in 1916. His name was William Lambert. 💔
The memorial to them is made out of Accrington bricks. They attacked alongside the Leeds Pals, Barnsley and Bradford pals and Sheffield city battalion. My granddad was from Horwich. He survived, or my father and myself wouldn't even have existed. His house fit a hero was built in 1936. Out of Accrington bricks. I wonder if this link will work? Be allowed? You may find this interesting. ruclips.net/video/5se-i9x_zf0/видео.html
My boys they are 5 and 7 have the same one ❤ I took them too there first real concert in Montreal to see sabaton, they lost there minds when they played there favourite song soldier of heaven, it was epic
I’m so in awe .. Sabaton manage to pay tribute too every soldier that gone to war, the stories they told about them AND Motörhead( in such a spectacular way).. and at the same telling the story of the battle of Somme in such detail 🙏
The Motorhead version is much more stripped down, with basically only a cello, snare drum, and Lemmy's voice. Sabaton adds more instrumentation, choir, and a guitar solo without losing any of the emotional impact. Like in Christmas Truce, they had Floor in the closing credits, here it's cellist Tina Gao playing during these credits.
Why is Lemmy in the video? All of Motörhead is there because Lemmy wrote this song. It is a cover. The original is beautiful. Lemmy sang it in a very fragile way but sonehow the song sounds like it is made for Joakim. The song is a tribute to all the soldiers who fought on this planet. Sabaton put many of their songs in it. Spartans, nightwitches, no bullets fly, all the songs from the 30 years war and so on. A tribute and an accusation at the same time. The little folk suffer because a few egomaniacs need to run this world for power and money. One of my favourite songs Sabaton ever made and I cannot watch it without crying
It's my favorite Sabaton song forever. And I was born at July 1st 1988. I can't stop crying if I watch this. The guys played this song in Hannover too and I had to break of my filming as they started. And I wasn't the only one crying in there
Imagine this... A Death metal singer that was about to surrender with his music, started to tell tales about war. That's Sabaton. There are many around the World who talks about battles in songs (different languages) but a few can have a voice like Sabaton's lead singer.
I first heard 1916 by Motörhead a few weeks before this release on a German rock radio and I was impressed. Never thought Motörhead wrote such a great song back in 1991. And now Sabaton delivered this absolutely masterpiece as a trubite to Lemmy and Motörhead and to all soldiers of different ages. Heard this song more than 30 times now and it hits every time. The brilliant way of telling stories about what happened in the past and teaching history makes them my favourite band for years. No wonder that I have a lot of Sabaton patches and soon Motörhead patches on my battle vest. Sabaton made a powerful tribute to Motörhead and their great song 1916. They did more than just a tribute to Motörhead but a tribute to all fallen soldiers in history. All the different soldiers from different ages refer to specific Sabaton songs. The Lady coming out of the dark alley is one of the Night Witches. The convertible car refers to the car where Archduke Franz Ferdinand was shot in Sarajevo which caused WWI. And at the end of the song was "The Old Pub" the B17 bomber from the song No bullets fly... >> Did you know that Sabaton received the "Enlightener of the Year Award 2022"? Sabaton is the "FIRST EVER ROCK BAND to receive this prestigious accolade!!"
That's whery nice whords written. The leders of the world should listen and read sabatons lyrics and then they understend what war can destroy for mancind. 😢
In roughly 10 minutes, 152 men died. Every 10 minutes of the battle. The Battle lasted 142 days, that is roughly 4 months. 31.5 per foot. 103.5 per meter. 7.5 inches for every soldier that died, roughly. War is a travesty, it is utterly inhuman horror in the totality of its violence. The Somme was just one battle in this war. There are several examples of major battles during WW1 that compare to the level of death and destruction, though none were quite as bad. This battle is in fact not the deadliest one, was not in this war. That macabre award goes to Stalingrad of WW2 fame. An entire travesty on its own whose death-count rivals most actual wars fought in history. History is extremely important to remember, those who lived it; and died in it do not have the luxury to live on, nor should we have the luxury to forget. I strongly recommend that you find a point in history and study it. We as a species have a responsibility to remember and if the internet ever dies, it will be a lot harder to do so. Thank you for your reaction. I hope your contribution to the internet reaches someone who has never heard about this event.
While watching the (entire) Sabaton video, 103 soldiers would have died during the battle of the Somme. Wars can never be won, as by definition lives have been lost regardless, but some people at the top never learns, as it seems...
That is especially sad because at the battle of the Somme some that fought were 15-16 years old and lied about their age to be able to fight. Most died within minutes of the battle of the Somme on July 1, 1916. SO many that died were your sons age and the battle lasted for months and the bodies were not able to be recovered for months so they could not be identified and to this day rest in unmarked graves.
I just wanted to let you know that your passion for music is very infectious and gratefully received. I absolutely love watching your reactions because they are so genuine. I'm 55 years old and i love watching younger people discover new music and you sir are one of my favorites. Btw, i wouldn't know who Sabaton was without your reactions so thank you, i listen to them all the time now
As people have mentioned in the comments, this is a cover of a Motörhead song. The two guys standing in the door opening at 5:03 are Mikkey Dee and Phil Cambell, the drummer and the guitarist of Motörhead. The picture they are carrying is of Lemmy Kilmister, the bassist, and singer of Motörhead.
A soldier, is a soldier regardless of the era. And these are Easter Eggs - Sparta, Harlem Hellfighters, Night Witches........watch again and drink it in. This is a cover of a Motorhead song, Lemmy wrote it.
The 1st time w this song is rough. In about a hundred views you think you've no more tears to cry...and you're wrong. The band has included this in their current tour's setlist. Thank goodness they took out En Livstid I Krig or they'd need therapists in the parking lot.
The credits are there for a reason. The band wants you to look at them. Because when making a video like this, every man, woman and child is important. And also, there is time and effort spent on the musical arrangement during the credits. So, IMO we all should take the time to watch the credits as well. Otherwise, a good reaction.
A few years ago, I went to Verdun, because one of my great-grandfathers barely got out alive, only to die from the gas damage he sustained around 6 or 7 years later. This perfectly captures the way you feel there. The horrors kinda stick.
And one other bonus with this video was the fact that the person playing the Cello in the end credits was none other than Tina Guo from the Steel Commanders video.
My favourite Sabaton cover ever, All Guns Blazing was my favourite so far, but this one is even better. Amazing emotional tribute to Motörhead and the fallen soldiers. I just found out that Tommy is the one who adjusted this song for Sabaton, which doesn't surprise me, since he did the same with Defence Of Moscow
It is all soldiers through time, its a reminder of the price of war, no matter from what country, what war, it is meant to stir feelings, and make you think, for all those fallen heroes, lest we forget.
Everybody, take a moment to appreciate, how lucky you are, to not live in a war situation. You are safe. Today we do have war in Europe - just like in the song. Will it escalate to another world war? No one knows... My heart goes out to the Ukrainian people. They have showed Vladimir Putin what they are made of!
You have Motörhead guys in the video. You should go back to 05:49 in the original video to see, and not take it all as creadits. That verse you talk so much about, makes me cry every time...
Just to add a moment. We’ve become accustomed to violence through media. Imagine hearing the news of this the following day in the newspapers. It was devastating beyond comprehension. Hardly a tear is shed watching the video and reading what Lenny wrote. I’m not suggesting we are bad people. I’m saying we hear about so much violence, it’s more difficult for us to truly understand what this was like. Beautiful song
It's a pity you skipped the credits, besides being an excellent cello rendition, one of the more pointed messages is in it. One of the last lines of 1916 goes "Now there's nobody remembers our name and that's how it is for a soldier" and then in the credits, every soldier is named, was a real soldier, most with a story recounted by Sabaton in other songs. No soldier goes unknown or forgotten
The fact is that the attack frim Sarajevo wasn't the begin of WW1. Not even we germans began WW1 it was actually the british empire who began WW1. In every history book you read that Germany began WW1 but we actually didn't
As a Mother of a Son who was in the military, I cry every time I watch this video. I am blessed that my Son never went to war and I hold each Mother and child who did in my prayers
I have watched over 30 times: original, Sabaton's cover and all the reactors, I have teared up every time.
This is a powerful message Sabaton gives us, in Lemmys words.
My eyes will tear up at every reaction. Thanks for doing this reaction, the message needs to be spread. Originally from Motörhead.

I think it was a really nice nod to Motorhead that they had the flag and living members of the band in the video. Love this cover song. :D

I totally agree with you...❤ First time I cried, now after many vievs I still cry.... 😢It moves your soul and heart. THE best song from Sabaton.....
It's my favorite Sabaton song forever. And I was born at July 1st 1988. I can't stop crying if I watch this. The guys played this song in Hannover too and I had to break of my filming as they started. And I wasn't the only one crying in there

Those other soldiers are references to other Sabaton songs, and the bus in the beginning.
Hammersmith 82.
Another big Motörhead reference.

The plane at the end is an Avro Lancaster not a B17, so not "The Old Pub" .

With a 15-year-old son, the part of them screaming for their mothers makes me cry every time. Just imagine 😭 Fuck war

You're whole soul was changed when the song started
Great teaction, but the music in the credits is part of the gift!

And not only those two Songs, everytime I watch "No Bullets Fly" with the Interview at the End...well lets just say my Eyes starts leaking.
@Argantyr Oh, you're not alone! That one gets me too! And the end of Night Witches...

"No other band can do that"
Except motörhrad naybe? It's their song
Just heard the original Motörhead version of this song and this song it’s honestly one the most impactful songs I’ve ever heard
There’s a Motörhead flag because it’s a Motörhead song! This is a remake.
Thanks for your review mate! Left a Sub.
Thank you!

this is one of those songs i cant properly sing cause of how easily.i cry ._.
NEVER kill the credits
You mustn't react to it, but please watch the ORIGINAL song by Motörheads Lemmy too!

Somehow i find the original better. Just my opinion. But kingdom come is better in the sabaton version.
The kids of the past must have been made of Uranium/Titanium-alloy. The soy latte generation of toady could never!
Just think nothing's really changed as Ukraine you have 15/16 year olds on the front line
