You can choose different branch in mtech irrespective of your branch in btech. Its just that you will have to give GATE exam of respective branch for which you want to apply in mtech but switching between branches is not much recommended untill you are too much serious about it.

As its not that simple how we think about choosing core and non core placements even before joining college. As our preference change over the time and I am telling you this with experience. I don't know whether you mean electronics or electrical from elec so I will give general answer: Electronics > Electrical > Mechanical (overall placement wise). Electrical and mechanical have almost similar scope in core side but still its not that simple as salary will vary from college to college and most specifically company to company.
College pe depend karta hai bhai.....aur agar aap electronics ke core mai ho aur product based company hai toh yeh choice sabse best hai.... mechanical mai itna nhi hai........agar aap product based company mai ja rhe ho toh phir kafi difference hoga ...😊
