- In my opinion this has to be the best mod for the money and what you save instead of purchasing the kit. This video is intended for proving a point that indeed it is a Plug n play swap for the (2018+) f150's only.
Parts Needed -
8" Screen
Apmi / With or without nav Your choice
Bezel (Control Panel) Top buttons can be switched around
Dual zone A/C Function will not work if your truck didn't have it orginally *

I have a 18 f150 and took a 8 inch out of 2017 xlt and it was still plug and play the harness would be needed if you wanna have the carplay usb output. I just used my original 4 inch usb port and it still connects fine but this video saved me from breaking a lot of plastic pulling stuff apart lol
Good to know, I've been looking at purchasing the kit for the 8 inch screen, but $1800 is way too much to pay. I didn't think the screens were plug and play. Thanks for the video, and I see you answered all the Questions, Awesome, Thumbs up!

Hi, since the truck doesn’t come with climate control, does the fan control knob and the temperature control knob work the same as with the original panel (only +/- fan a temperature) or do you just have to operate it from the radio screen???

I have a 2018 forc f150 and would to change my radio out from the small screen to the touch screen its a xlt
So I swapped a 4” to a 8” sync radio in 19 F150 and the usb port is not the same plugs as the truck I took it out of. Any recommendations on how to fix this and have apple car play?

Where do I find this same setup for my 2020 Ford f150 single cab? I want Apple CarPlay. I don’t want to spend 1k for a brand new one.
Just piece it together bro from ebay and LKQ or even marketplace, for Apple car play, check out my other videos for it to function because you will need a different usb hub and power adapter
So did the same upgrade you did, everything is working with the exception of the temperature reading on the display does not work and I have no way to do the presets for the radio stations. You can pt the radio on a station and hold down the preset key but it will not hold the station. I have already did a master reset as well as a soft reset and neither has worked. The only thing I have not done is unplug the unit. What can I do to fix these issues?
Make sure it’s updated and make sure the apin is not bad but if you just installed it give it a sec I got one out of a truck that’s was Totaled 4 years ago and it took a hr just for touchscreen options to start working I guess it was syncing because it now has my vin# linked to it
The radio situation I've never heard about really but maybe on forscan there could be a fix or even an update but I had the same situation with the temperature readings and I even made a separate video and how to add them but you need to use forscan since the screen and apim is not made for your certain trim level. It's pretty easy to use, check out one of my other videos on how to use the forscan for climate controls and stuff like that.

does the apple car play work im having trouble getting mine to work
I did a 4" to 8" Swap on my 2018 F150 XLT (w/ OEM Backup Camer) with a 2018 F150 8" radio from another truck I found. The two things that do not work is the MICROPHONE & the BACKUP CAMERA. Do you know how to fix this issue ? Do I need to bring it to the dealership to program? Did your MIC and BACKUP CAM Work after the plug and play swap?
Try 4d tech they have a back up camera adapter plug and play ifs 40$ i got mine there 2017 xlt big screen upgrade

I think that to add the missing functions of the radio you have to use the fordscan and the USB cable to program
Yes, you use forscan and the ob2 device to link between laptop and vehicle. Uploaded some videos on how to do it.
Have you considered doing a power seat swap? I’m trying to put lariat seats in my base STX, I’m glad that radio bezel and screen works for you that tells me our trucks are pre-wired for lariat dash options.
Yes, I actually have been really considering it but been having trouble finding some good black leather seats.

@@Puropadelanteco check on eBay man I find them all the time, I’m struggling to find the correct wiring harness that goes under the carpet. If you do the swap remember the floor harness we have is different so if you get seats with memory you’ll need the harness with 2 plugs going into the passenger seat and 1 to the driver. The part actual lariat part # is JL3T-14A005-LBG for future reference

Did you use forscan at all to enable anything? And does the hot to cold still work with the knob on the left or do both knobs control the blend door?
Just some additional things I wanted but with forscan you can add some extra features. My truck is only single climate control so it's only one knob controlling temperature.

Do you have a backup camera and does it work with the big screen? I am doing this upgrade this week and it would be very helpful to know if I need to buy a special adapter.
The factory camera that came with the truck works with the big screen so I'm pretty sure you don't need an adapter atleast for the 18+ F150
Were you able to to use A/C controls the original way before going into Forscan to use touch screen ? Before i purchase 8"screen and bezel i need to know if A/C is going to work
Yeah it worked but you need to master reset it and disconnect it then reconnect.

Yes should still work good. Just make sure all the buttons are some what the same. (Top buttons) are the ones that usually differ on different packages.
I got the screen off a friend came with the stereo bezel and buttons but he had to keep his apmi for his new Tesla stereo would the one with the little screen work with this one or do I have to buy one for it to work
Yes you need new apim for the new sync. Either with nav or without its up to you man.
Does your GPS work without doing any extra wiring?
Yes gps works, I think I just bought the cable just in case but never used it because it came with one.

By looking on f150 forums. There were a bunch of people who did research and said it was not plug in play for 17 and lower but I honestly don't know man. You should do some heavy research on f150 forums. There is plenty of info.

No antenna needed. Radio comes with antenna if you purchace the radio with the navigation apim.

That was the risk not knowing what to order but I'll try to help you out lol First make sure your truck is 18+. I ordered through LKQONLINE.COM and ebay screen came out of a king ranch like 19 or so and the panels of a different trim truck I believe, the apim module also was separate and I did struggle a bit at start up but I then did a hard reset and small tweaks with forscan and has been working perfect since then. but it should be plug & play if your truck is 18+ and the apim in good condition, screen and so on, within reason.
I found a screen for $502 on the link you posted, but did you get the trim panel with controls on the same website or a different one.
Also have you had any problems since installing it?

No problems at all only on the initial start up the ac wouldn't turn off but I did a hard reset and been working for months now.

I bought mostly everything through LKQ website just type in 18+ f150 and the parts you need and thats it. I also used ebay for the control panel.
I’m looking on LKQ for the screen and APIM but It doesn’t say for sure if it has the APIM mounted to the back of it. Is this how it was for the one you bought? I don’t want pay 350+ dollars for just the screen.
Yeah it's pretty hard bro. Honestly it's all about hunting down the one with the right information and details you need. But you can always call them up and ask them.
@@Puropadelanteco yea I called them up and they couldn’t give me any information about whether it had the APIM. Said the APIM wasn’t even listed in their system and couldn’t find one at all. So I’m thinking it is the screen and APIM since they’re mounted together and they don’t have the APIM listed at all.
Yeah maybe if your lucky enough they are mounted together, it happens but sometimes they are a pain and it won't even come with the radio wire. It will be risky sometimes but it's part of the game man.

@@MrSmith-oy3hs okay, so I checked my order from a long time ago and they actually did come together. And it was labeled under "Information 8" display screen w/ nav. I was actually positive I had bought it separate but I forgot since I did soo much looking around. Came out to around 350 for screen and apim navigation module.

I got a comment and question. I got the 2018 XLT w/the 8 in screen and nav system but the sound is so disappointing. I replaced all the speakers and added an amp and bass but still it doesn't sounds great(for comparison I have a 2011 Mazda CX-7 w/stock sound system and it sounds better than my Ford. Do you think that replacing the head unit/ stereo would help the sound quality.?
To be honest a aftermarket head unit would make it sound way better just because of the outputs and fine tuning options available but I wanted something stock looking and just knowing that the radio will last a very long time so yeah but do you also have an amp to your door speakers? because that will make a huge difference aswell.
@@Puropadelanteco Thanks, I don't have a dedicated amp for the door speakers but I am more concerned with the quality of the sound. Big difference in sound quality ( I am not talking about loudness) between my Mazda and my Ford.

Yeah it works fine. After this video i used forscan to have the climate controls on the screen which works fine. Haven't had a problem yet.

If you get the apim w/ Navi yes. There is also apim modules without Navi which are cheaper.
Does Apply car play work ?
No apple car play until you swap the single usb port to the dual powered usb port

Everything works. You just need to find a apim module that has GPS Navi because there are regular sync 3 apim modules without Nav, which are less expensive, so be careful on that.
@@Puropadelanteco I ended up purchasing one without gps only because the description said something like tv/gps/radio. I discovered right after I ordered and the guy happened to have to the same one with gps so I requested to return the first one. It only cost me about 425. I went this route because(I'd love a Tesla screen)but at the moment I don't feel like spending anywhere from 800 to 1800 on a freaking radio. That's just crazy. I just upgraded from a 2012 F150 to 2018. I'll probably just wait and upgrade a few other things, I like how there are so many other things that can be done. You wouldn't happen to know anything about adding a shock sensor would you? I guess for security reasons I haven't found a single video on how or where to install one.
@@WilliamL1988 yeah, they are quite expensive. I was gonna do the same but other than expensive, I've seen that they do lag alot so I don't know maybe later on.
And sorry I haven't really looked into that nor seen videos either like you mentioned maybe some forum researching.

Naa man not at all, for the 18s anyway.
Part # ID JL3T-18E245-ADG. I believe any control panel will work but obviously for the bigger screen. You will also want to use forscan to have your ac controls on your screen.
How did u do the max reset
In settings I did a reset of the radio and then I also disconnected it from the back

No, I don't use apple but I heard it's not that hard to add it
Does ford pass still work ?
Forscan? Yes It does but you need a forscan obd2 adaptor to connect from truck to laptop and also purchase access for a year which is cheap honestly. You can find adaptor on ebay or Amazon.

@@justinmingura6641 Dont see why not man alot people even use mustang/Focus and other newer car screens but some custom brackets are needed tho. Just make sure if you want navigation, the apmi needs to be for navigation.

I don't think I have the email receipt to them anymore but like I said everything should be at the LKQ website just make sure the control panel matches with the buttons on top of your control panel and there is also plenty on eBay which is where I got my control panel. Also make sure if you want navigation to buy the sync apim with navigation. If the apim doesn't come with this cable www.ebay.com/itm/202562690058 upon purchase where pictures will clearly show you then you must purchase that cable separately, it is to connect the screen to apim.

It does not, I have an android which for that it does work but for Apple car play you need to convert your USB to the dual powered usb. I'm not really sure what's all required but you can do some research on the f150 forums for this mod.

I believe not, but I recommend it though for sure. I honestly don't use it much but it's one of those things that is just nice to have and works perfectly when I do need it.

No sir that's probably the only thing that doesn't work since these xl trucks don't come with dual climate system.
