football is the most practiced sport in the world, in Spain with 47 million inhabitants there are 907,000 federated players and 31,166 clubs (with different age categories).
Boys start playing on these teams at 4-5 years of age (with daily training and +30 games per season) and spend their entire lives participating in leagues until 1 in every 1,800 becomes a professional, reaching the first division. Only one in 100,000 can end up on the national team.
But you look at it with your American gaze and ask if it is difficult to compete in soccer... Take a ball and go play a game, run 10 miles in 90 minutes with continuous sprints, covering spaces, marking your rivals, maintaining the position, fighting each ball with 100% of your energy, without breaks or commercial breaks.
Maybe this way you will come to some conclusion about the difficulty of playing at the elite level of the greatest sport of all humanity. Practiced all over the planet and whose most famous footballers are admired as demigods.

Messi is greatest dribbler and probably quickest footballer i have ever seen. With his short statue, he can dribble at full speed while ball is glued to his feet. Even tho Messi is not sprinter, he got probably best acceleration of all footballers. He can go to 30 km/h with ball at his feet in two seconds, which is same speed one of the fastest rugby player get while running and Messi on top of that is a kicking a fucking ball. Thats why he can pass players so quickly on pitch before they even get to full speed. Also his agility is greatest. When you put his agility, acceleration, dribbling skill and ball control, he is unstoppable one by one. He is so quick, he will past you. His IQ, passing accuracy, shooting accuracy, vision. He´s most gifted player ever, most complete footballer ever and best footballer ever. He is god of the game.

Go find some guys playing football at a field and ask to play. You'll learn how difficult it is to actually shoot, score, dribble, pass, defend, etc. quick
