When I hear this song, I picture somebody sitting alone on a park bench looking up at the night sky wondering if he can find purpose in life again. The first part of the song is him remembering all the fun he's had in the past, and the last part, to me, is him having hope that it might all just come back to him one day, and that it actually does.
Grand Blue Pianist of the Sky ignorance is bliss my friend. This might sound like a hopeful song, but in true radiohead style, it’s not what it seems. On the surface its a song about love, getting over and moving on, knowing true love waits, but in reality its a song about hopelessness, a man who is madly in love with someone who doesn’t feel that way about him. Someone who is trapped in a toxic relationship, and acknowledges it, but wants to keep at it.
Some Dude thats the line that haunts me the most from this song. Ive been trying to get over some bad depression and anxiety and that line perfectly describes the worst feelings and self hatred.

Welp, 5 years later, I unfortunately relate to this. There’s so many things I should be happy about but it just doesn’t hit me anymore, whenever I’m out with people I feel lonely regardless. You can talk to me and I’ll hold a conversation, say a joke and I’ll definitely smile but on the inside I think something important died and I just don’t know what yet but whatever it is I hope I get it back.
I don’t like feeling this way but I can’t help it.

this is one of my most favourite radiohead songs. you know they have like a 90s version - and it feels like first love or just like teen ages and the version that came out in moon shaped pool is so adult for me - there is so much pain
this song always makes me cry
Sitting on a park bench on a beautiful spring day, looking at all the trees budding and blossoming, my trusty dog at my side, I can’t help but shake the sadness that has taken its home in my heart for many years. Children are playing along the path, their parents tending to them as you’d expect, oblivious, pure. I’m old now and it won’t be long. Every day when the sun wakes me from sleep, I look to the future. One day I will be with my son in heaven.

I’ve been doing some thinking recently about this channel and a thought popped into my mind overnight. It’s been a really interesting journey sharing my love of the piano with everyone all over the world. It still trips me out that I spend an afternoon recording a track (it has to be the afternoon for those curious about the process, as the piano is lit by natural light - it’s best between 1pm - 4pm in the room that I’m recording in), sitting by myself in front of a piano in my music school, and that people from all over the world get to experience a very private moment of my creative process.
What I find particularly interesting though is when I listen back to these interpretations, there’s a pretty strong disconnect between playing/recording the tracks and hearing them back. Without a drop of ego, I personally enjoy listening to these tracks either late at night to help me fall asleep, occasionally in the morning when I wake up to find some more motivation about working on my Radiohead songbook, but my favourite time would definitely be when I’m travelling, especially in airports or on planes, and also on public transport. As there are a lot of returning subscribers and listeners on this channel, my question to you is this: Where and when do you listen to these tracks? What are you doing? Working? Studying? Travelling? Eating breakfast? Passing out? What time of day is it? What do you see? How does it make you feel?
I’d be very curious to hear your thoughts, so hit me up.

I'll just get them stuck in my head and listen, usually in the afternoon... I've shown these to several friends and family, and honestly they've made me want to learn how to play piano too. I've actually sat down and started learning a couple songs because of these covers.
Sometimes I listen to them while I am doing things, cleaning up the house, preparing a meal, usually afternoons or early evening. Other times I just lean back in my chair and just listen actively (later at night).
i like this for journeys and before sleep.
I listen to your tracks and watch your videos when i wanna relax and just take a break from everything around me. I love the piano and the music you make , it just makes me travel and just dissapear for 5-6 minutes then another song another 5-6 minutes.. thank youuu :)

When you're the musician, these emotions don't come through the same. It's a more intellectual connection, rather than a passive emotional one.
@@nicolaslalonde2807you are so wrong. don’t talk about things you obviously don’t take part in. Using the word intellectual doesn’t make you right, or smart. Sometimes the emotional connection to the music I perform stops me from being able to perform it correctly
Hm.. that entirely depends on the musician and Radiohead is a perfect example of this. How many other bands do you see moving around live on stage to their own music the way Radiohead does? Sure, bands move around and go pretty nuts while performing but I mean to the extent Thom does. I think there's much more that meets the eye when it comes to the marriage between intellect and emotion.@@nicolaslalonde2807

I'm not the biggest fan of listening to Radiohead covers. Them being my favorite band, I don't enjoy hearing any of their stuff coming from anyone but them if that makes sense. But these covers truly are some of the most beautiful I have ever heard in my life. Thank you so much for sharing your talent with us and your obvious love for Radiohead:)

I fell in (true) love when I heard this song for the first time on guitar, so I was so moved when I listened the closer to A Moon Shaped Pool and found that it was an incredible piano version, and studio, too, finally. +phangirlcrazy overload This one is particularly challenging to explain as there are a lot of fine nuances and subtleties if you want to split hairs. I transcribed the entire song note for note and each bar is pretty much different. It took me many takes to get a take with the least number of mistakes!
