Great episode. I’m not usually a fan of Glassman, but Ari did great with rolling with Ricks goofiness and I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this. I’m definitely going to go watch Ari’s episode on TYSO.

But if I'm honest the magic stuff is a big skip for me... it's like watching master woodworkers for some reason talking for 20 minutes about the ins and outs of making cheesecake, we didn't come for this. Weirdly, I fit into this venn diagram of comedy fan & gamer / magic player. Richard Garfield created magic, and before he landed with Wizards of the Coast, he first approached TSR, the creators of Dungeons & Dragons. TSR passed on picking up the game (against Jim Ward's recommendations to acquire it), and Wizard's of the Coast later purchased TSR being flush with wealth from the success of Magic: The Gathering. Garfield was indeed the creator of the collectible card game. He captured lightning in a bottle. It's not even his best one, just his most lucrative. His best, mechanically, was his next one based on the world of Cyberpunk (that videogame what's so popular that the internet freaked out about), which originated as a roleplaying game. This next card game was called Netrunner. It's fan-fucking-tastic, and saw a relatively recent rebirth and growing success for a few years from Fantasy Flight Games before the license was pulled by Wizards of the Coast. Glassman, if you haven't played Netrunner, you're missing out.
Such great chemistry between these two. Hope they do more in the future!

Fun fact: Cadence actually means something in music theory. It resolves and shows your ear what the key is. IV V I is an example. The 4 and 5 let you know that the 1 is “home base”. Loved the ep!

Regarding a precursor to MTG. Games workshop had a game in 1980 called Warlock that had a energy (Mana) system that players would use to cast creatures and spell cards against the other "Wizard" players.
