You should build an area by the university with bars and night life and also some big box stores. Very common near major universities these days. Also chain hotels.

I think adding the cable car will be a great addition! Really adds some spice into the skyline but for where the cable car ends, I suggest that you should stop it by the waterfront and not bring it all the way into the university because it just looks so out of place. The height difference between the cable car and the low density houses is too jarring

I agree, I think the last stop should be on the quay near the train museum. People can just catch a bus from there. Also I think it is too high up above the water

Yeah I agree taking it all the way down into the university is unnecessary and looks a bit out of place. Also, I’d say having the poles standing on buildings would create a series of safety and maintenance concerns that no city would want to deal with

My idea for the little island (playing the same map) was a festival area, also added lots of tents (from the nature reserve park), the fan zone, parks and all sorts. But as it was mentioned before it's ideal for an amusement park too. Interested to see your take on it. 😊
It could be called: Glastonferry (after Glastonbury)

I thought amusement park or festival area too, with the amusement park I had a worry that you couldn’t fit all the assets in the island so it might need a little bit of landscaping.. Also the entrance to the park could be on the coast with a pedestrian bridge to the island 😊 possibilities

You could move that fort building (from behind the mountain near Myrtle) over to the river island and make a historic site/park connected by ferry - solve two problems at once. We have quite a few places like that in the US.

Bedford deserves a train station seeing as it has so much track passing by it, even for now if it’s only a shuttle. Also you could connect the cargo rail line to the Bedford passenger train station and then build a passenger station down by the stadiums on that line and have a train run on it that doesn’t necessarily pass through the central station.
Additionally to solve your internal cargo distribution you could download the barges mod and make use of all the rivers you have near the industry and the city centre

If you're set on using cable cars on the map, I think it'll be better to use them in brand new areas farther down the beach that way you can plan around them. They don't necessarily have to be connected to absolutely everything and can just service some suburbs and areas outside the city center. I'd like to see them connect brand new areas together rather than connecting areas you built up already.

I like the idea of the cable cars, especially going down the hill toward the stadium (what a cool way to get to a game and be able to see all the arenas on your way in!), but I think it would be nice if from the top of the hill they followed the ridge and went over that old fort on the coast. Then the line could cross the water onto the little park peninsula so it didn't have to span as far, and then maybe eventually cross that mountain over toward the airport too. Then it could be a direct route for people flying in to get to the stadiums, and they could take a scenic tour of the city on the way! (I would absolutely do that if it actually existed. Every time I've visited a new city, I've made a point to find a place to see it from above and it's always worth it.)

doesnt building the cable car just defeat the whole purpose of the new ferry lines? i would've just made the cable car go from myrtle to bedford square over the mountain and nothing else. it could be imagined more like a tourist attraction like the london one or if you ended up making hiking trails that could be how the hikers got to the mountain?

    Bedford Lore:
William Bedford was a fisherman who set up his business on the other side of the river to avoid paying city taxes. Since he crossed the river every day to sell his fish in the city anyways he took people who needed to travel on his way to and from. People in the city who wanted to cross the river were shortening "Going to Bedford's ferry" to "Going to Bedford" and so the the village that formed on the other side that accomodated the travelers waiting for the ferry became known as Bedford to the townsfolk.
His son Will Bedford was interested in sports and became a professional athlete. He inherited money from the ferry line and sponsored the building of stadiums on the other side of the newly formed city. He also invested in hotels and housing for the staff of the stadiums next door and so layed the groundwork for what came to be known as the Bedford Square.
The ferry line became less and less popular over time thanks to the train line, busses and bigger until it was sold by the Bedford estate to new owners. They revitalized the company by adding new stops and rerouting the lines.

For the cargo rail, I think it'd be nice to tunnel under the national park mountain. like along the city-side edge a bit, not right through the whole mountain. Means you can do the whole go around plan, but a bit more direct. Also, for the island, you could make it another park, only reachable by ferry maybe? that'd make the ferry have a purpose other than scenic transport.

  • @danish5332

James, I think the cable car going through the city doesn't make sense. The building owner would never allow the cable car going up their roof, the house owner would be furious that now they have a cable car on their backyard lol. It would make sense if it just go across the river or going up the hills

I would love to see you do some custom dedicated bike lanes on some of the main roads. The painted bike lanes are so tacky - you could try and put a landscape strip between the bike lane and the main road. I think it would go well with the aesthetic of the city.
I'd also love to see a nightlife or red light district - maybe in the area where all the railway bridges are near central?
Also would love the island to be an alcatraz type prison island!

You should use the cable car to connect all the different hills in the town, which already have less stuff built on and you have space for stops. I think the place you picked for the cargo harbor makes little sense, and will cause more problems than it solves. Wouldn’t a cargo harbor next to Spruce Hills, close to the coming airport, make a lot more sense? That’s closer to the industrial and the trucks wouldn’t have to go through the entire city. Then you could also use the area now designated for the harbor as a festival/entertainment area, which would make sense I think next to the stadiums.

    - have that one hanging railway station be the entrance to a small theme park on the island.
    Cargo:
    - have one cargo lane go through the middle of the big suburbs. On that big road in the middle and when it weirdly needs to cross roads, make a tunnel instead and go back on the surface when its going straight (like GTA 5).

If you’re wanting to go for realism, the cable car needs to go in a completely straight line. It’s very complicated and very expensive to put in turning mechanisms for cable cars and they’re even more expensive to maintain, so generally they’re avoided unless absolutely necessary. It’s fine for the cable car to change directions at stations though. That’s generally more often done, as the cars are removed from the cables to slow down. You are right about the people hating it going over their back gardens though. Just look at the history of the Portland, OR sky tram, which does just as such. There was mass complaining about it and land value in the area has shot down.

Personally I love the cable car. Maybe you could run it either along the foreshore to Bedford or on the blank hill behind. Then take it across the water to the satalite university and the to the actual university? A less direct route? Really hope you keep Bedford as a quaint tourist town.

You could turn the island into a small fishing community or something. If I recall correctly, Biffa used a mod that added barges that ship cargo from one stop to another. With that and the ferries, I feel you could make for a nice little fishing village smack dab between the major city and the suburb!

We have the ferry, buses, train, and cars that connect the city toward the university. I don't think the cable cars are needed. I think they could be a fun feature for when you build outward from Bedford. I know NY has the Roosevelt Island Tram (cable cars) that connects the city to Brooklyn over the river. Your map has that smaller island off of Bedford that you could utilize the cable cars for once you figure out what you want to build there. Or you could connect it to a peak in the national park and set up festival grounds there.

I like the cable car being long - but there's no need having it connect areas already well connected. Go from the uni and over the water to the bay not covered by ferries and out the the burbs and then industrial or something.

I think the cable car to the island would be cool and have an attraction like camping, park or amusement park. You could also have a cable car going to the castle or nature walks there and have a ferry stop right outside of it we have something similar back home and it has all seaside attractions, like little shops and eateries, you could also do fishing on the pier in that location.

A suggestion would be put a bus only road starting from the ferry stop at Coleridge and bridge is over to Myrtle as it prevents more traffic on the main road and also a more direct route for buses to go between the districts.

More than one line of public transport make sense if they go to/from different places. A line from Bedford along the water makes sense because otherwise they’d have to take the bus to the main station and the tram down instead of a direct line.
Edit: nice bus line just got to u making it and I completely forgot about the ferry
Edit 2: please look at some pictures of cable cars, especially in mountains. There is usually a pillar at the top of the cliff before the station. 30 meters height above the river is also more than enough, you overdid it a bit. Realistically you would build them as low as possible to minimize expenses
Edit 3: the stop at the train station is awesome man, the way way it’s nestled in there with the elevation change is the definitive characteristic of urban cable cars

    Heigh Heights lore:
Theresa Hai was a farmer and land owner. Her family controlled a vast estate from the hills down to the valley that came to be known as the Hai Heights. When the city formed, she sold more and more uphill land to invest into the inner city firms that built on her land. The fact that the Hai Heights constituted more and more flat land made newspapers call it "Heigh Heights" mockingly. After her death, antitrust legislation split up the conflict of intrest of the inner city buildings being partly owned by their own landlord, selling the land to the buildings that were on it and the roads and parks to the city. This effectively resolved what was left of the Hai Heights, but created a new city district. The mayor who pushed the antitrust and created the new district, named it "Heigh Heights" officially because of the highrise buildings.

Cargo rail out around the National Park would be better than smashing through the city, or some weird tunnel bridge thing through the mountain and across the bay.

How about the cable car to get to the castle? Maybe?
The hotel is as central as the hotels in Puerto Rico, Gran Canaria, that for some reason have mar (sea) in their name despite being up in the mountains...
