Abandoned Ski Run Behind Wal-Mart - Woodland Park Colorado

  • In this video, I visit an abandoned ski lodge in Woodland Park, Colorado. This town is so steeped in forgotten history that I will likely revisit it a few times. That said; today's tale is about a piece of property that barely missed Wal-Mart's wrecking ball and housed some of the world's earliest skiing enthusiasts
    I am focusing on land that was sold; in 2005, to the Wal-Mart real estate corporation. Their intention was to develop a low-end department store combined with a grocery store. This news sparked community outrage over fears the store would eclipse main street businesses, damage historical property, and destroy the city's small-town quality of life. That April, town hall meetings were a roar with accusations, conflicts of interests, and preservation concerns...

      Howdy mate and good afternoon! If your libraries have access to public records, you can find out a lot about a location by researching these records. This is how I found out about the lands' history and the contents of the Meeting with Wal-Mart. Don really seemed like a good guy and left a massive legacy in Southern Colorado. Thank you for your appreciation and for joining us. I hope you are well and stay safe!
      P.S. Super awesome to hear that NZ has nearly eradicated the virus within its borders. That's flipping amazing!

    Don't know where you've been but WELCOME BACK.
    Wow, this is wonderful info and the old videos are priceless.
    When i skiied Pikes Peak there was plenty of deep, natural snow.
    I want to wring Walmarts neck for not keeping their word. Without you, I would've never known about this ski area.

      That's because he isn't correct. He is showing a different house, claiming it was part of a ski area. This was recently posted on a Woodland Park community page on Facebook, and the locals are having a fit about the inaccuracies. He's in the wrong area. This is the Junction House, was never a part of a ski area.

      That's because it's not true. He is showing the Junction House. It was never part of a ski area. The ski area was on Edlow road. This is not the correct area.

    We are not better off with the Walmart. People that chose to live up here new that they would need to drive down the pass for Wal-Mart shopping. The people didn't want the Wal-Mart. We still don't!!! Only the city people want it. That's what has ruined woodland park!!

    • @DerelictDoug
      @DerelictDoug  3 года назад

      I agree, Walmart did not help and typically does not help. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and for watching. All the best!
