I'm not even 5 minutes in and I'm crying for this mother, how dare that ungrateful brat of a daughter treat such a loving and supportive mother like that, there's a special place in her for people that treat they're parents like burdens, they raised us it's our job to make sure they at least get the little things I life when they're older like going to your graduatio , walking you down the isle or grandchildren.

The daughter really screwed herself over. Because she was so concerned over her status, she lost everything, a mom who gave blood, sweat, and tears, her friends her husband-to-be, and their family along with her important status. If that's not rock bottom, I don't know what is.

Put it like this; when a child wonders 'am I their child, or their servant?' the answer is 'servant, because if you were their child, you wouldn't wonder.' Put it like this; they went to Bermuda for two years and brought me . . . to a boarding school two thousand km away, because somehow it'll be good for me to live with strangers instead of with them in Bermuda.

My dad is narcissistic and completely indifferent towards me and I'm an only child. I haven't spoken to him in 6 years.
I'm done trying to get his approval and love. Even my mom says she doesn't understand why he's so indifferent towards me and actually said he's not a good father (53 years later but still)
This is such a sad story for me. My twin sister and I were taken away from our birth parents when we were both 3 months old too. They were both really bad drinkers, and my birth mother would walk us around in the stroller going from party to party, and at all hours of the night. So the state stepped in and took us away. We went to live with my mother's sister and her husband as well, so that my sister and I would not be separated by adoptions. They already had 2 children of their own and they treated us like we can their own. They gave us the ABSOLUTE best life that they could give us. We never wanted for anything, and I couldn't even imagine what my sister and my lives would have been like if they hadn't taken us in. No money in the world could ever change how much we loved our aunt and uncle, and they were always and will forever be our mother and father. They are both gone now, and I miss them terribly.
I'm so glad you had such wonderful parents (because that's what they were).
Hope that you and your sister both live a great life.

Well, while I agree that children don't necessarily owe their parents, there are at least some things that we should give our parents and they really don't ask for much in return. Even just a slight indication of expressing gratitude is something that would mean the world to them, so they could see just how the child loves them.

I am so glad that her adoptive mother/aunt made her learn a hard hard lesson. It's really sad that Leah felt the need to treat her mother like that.
I had a very destructive and awful stepmother and would have given anything to have a stepmother that really cared and actually was a help instead of an instrument of destruction to my family.
Even at the end, she wouldn't apologize until she was desperate. It was just "NO! You can't!" and "It's not my fault!"
She only said, "I'm sorry" when she knew it was already too late, and her apology was worthless.

And then she finally got consequences to her actions. I think the mother should give her daughter another chance see if she learned her lesson. No matter how hurtful our children are, They are still our children and our love for them is supposed to be unconditional. Yes if the daughter has not learned her lesson then continue With the tough love. If she's showing signs of change don't abandon her. Sometimes The ones we love have to hit rock bottom, Possibly even a few times, Before they can learn their lesson and truly appreciate what they had. Set up healthy boundaries.

Lia could have been forgiven if she said sorry, instead she tried to make excuses, 'slip of the tongue, I didn't mean it', then when she was called out for having actually meant it, it was only THEN that she apologised. Her second chance disappeared the moment she tried to make excuses. When I saw that message, I knew she lost her only chance. She proved she wasn't actually sorry.
Her "I'm sorry" wasn't an apology at all. It was self-pity. I'm sorry I'm in this strait. I'm glad her mother (the one who raised her) didn't fall for her crocodile tears.
Indeed. I hate when the tears and weak non-apologies come out once people realize they screwed up and never before. And, I read in one of these stories that "If apologies fixed things, we would not need police, court, or jail/prison. " Don't need apologies, need people to act right!

Also, for reasons that I can't fully explain, I kinda want to read these epilogues from the other side from time to time.
Ironically, all of my kids were adopted out due to me being too sick to care for them(their dad ran off when i got sick) and my kids are all in my life now as adults but I tell them that they still have parents outside of me and that they should love their adoptive parents because i love their adoptive parents for taking in, loving and raising my children to be these awesome adults.
All of my kids adoptive parents get mother’s day/father’s day/birthday/Christmas/adoption day recognition from me and always will until the day they pass because I’m grateful for their place in my kids life.
No kid should turn on their adoptive parents for their biological parents without good reason

I have always told my son I was sorry I couldn't have done more for him than I did when he was growing up. I worked 2 jobs for many years working 13 out of 14 days till I was finally able to get a fulltime job. He didn't have alot but we had everything we needed once I was able to work 1 job and spend more time with him.
He tells me I did a great job with him and he is proud of everything I did for him. I was able to get a scholarship to a private high school so he got a good education and he said he couldn't ask for more than that. Found out college wasn't for him and he enjoys the manual labor job he is doing. He said I showed him working hard for his family is what matters, not how much stuff he can give them. I am proud of him for that.

This I believe is the lesson of “You don’t truly realize what you have until it’s gone.” But she had it coming in the end she never realized that her own aunt was the main person that truly cared about her the entire time yet pushed her away. Especially with about time that she realized that she didn’t have anybody else but her aunt at this point her own grandparents tried to eradicate any bit of evidence of her mother existing

On one hand I can understand the reaction and pulling away as the mother did here. But there was so much more behind how all this could happen in the first place. We can't fully control how our children grow up, but we can teach them gratitude and grace. This is a sad story all around.
The beginning of the story reminds me of a Reddit story I’ve read a while ago. The daughter did exactly that to her father. The father (the victim) ended up disowning his own child because of that. The daughter tried to make amends after the wedding but he didn’t want to hear it, or deal with her.
The whole story, the bride to be is a real piece of trash. Karma hit her like a ton of bricks and she wants to run away from the responsibilities of her choices. Like I said, what a piece of trash.

This story reminds me of something that happened recently. A step family member asked me to do them a favor that was to pick up her husband's grandmother from the hospital because they couldn't reach her daughter and her grandson was at work, they tried calling the daughter multiple times and she ignored every call. Came to find out she had been in the hospital for three days with pneumonia and dehydration- this woman is old and in her 80s, her adult daughter had let her lie in bed for a week and didn't help her once even though she was suffering. She had fallen out of bed twice trying to get up on her own because she was so weak and had to call emergency services twice because her own daughter wouldn't even help her up. Well the grandson went to visit her to check on her and as soon as he found her he called 911 and had paramedics get her to a hospital. The daughter didn't visit once while she was hospitalized and when the time came for her to be discharged she claimed she left her phone in the house and was out in the garden so she didn't "know" they were trying to contact her. I went with my step sister to get her and she was nice and polite, thanked me multiple times for picking her up and offered me money for doing so. As soon as we reached her house, guess who shows up at the same time acting all surprised? Her crappy daughter. Not even two seconds outside the car, the daughter is yelling and complaining that she had to take care of her mothers cat while her mother was lying in the hospital with pneumonia. According to my step sister, the daughter treats her mother like this all the time because she wants her mother to be put in home or to just die already because: MONEY. The grandmother is very wealthy and if she gets put in a home then her daughter will have full control as power of attorney and if she dies she gets her inheritance. I could not believe the way this woman treated her mother, it was despicable. I couldn't imagine treating my mother that way.

Lia is truly a despicable person. My mom was a high school drop out. She dropped out at 17 when her mom died in childbirth having her eighth child. Her father was a real jerk. Mom was the second oldest with six younger siblings and an older brother. He joined the army and went overseas. My mom eventually married my dad who was 14 years older than her, had us 3 kids and they remained married until he died at age 92. The baby sister was raised by her aunt and uncle and another younger sister eventually was taken in by another relative. Anyway, we have a very interesting family history!

I was adopted when I was 7 years old, and I already knew what type of person my bio egg donor was. I remember the abuse from her twords my 3 brothers and myself. My bio dad was a different story, I knew very little about him other then he was very caring twords myself and brothers. I consider my parents to be my adopted parents since they're the ones that raised me, instilled in me right from wrong, faith, responsibility, love of family and all the lessons that life has to give. I do wish I'd been a better child. My brothers and I were so fearful of them sending us away, we did understand that they were keeping us for better or worse. So I never really bonded with my mom. Probably should have done therapy as a kid to better understand the new life I was given. But, mom and I are repairing our relationship. Better late than never I guess. And yes, my parents adopted all 4 of us! So we got 2 new sisters, one of which was also adopted. Lol. I always joke that we were the Brady bunch. Lol. Some yrs ago, my aunt, mom's sister, complemented me saying that my looks and mannerisms reminded her of mom in her college yrs. Weird how I ended up so much like my mom! Lol

What a sad story. Even if it is fiction, it still made me sad for everyone involved.
Lia was an ungrateful, entitled brat, but I, as a mother (blood or not) hope I could never abandon my child. Even after they acted like that. I would hope that I would use it as a teaching moment and help my child become a better person after this bitter lesson.

You can end a relationship like this, but if Lia's aunt really loved her, she has a lot of emotional pain to go thru, as you can't pull out love like a weed in a garden. Also, her fiance did not love her or he would not cancel the wedding!
I don't know about the fiance, he could have seen hoe she was treating her "mom" and thought about how she might treat family members who get sick or their kids if they weren't born healthy or had learning disabilities and decided he needed someone with kindness and compassion
Perhaps the fiancé realized how awful Lia really was when he found out the entire story. I would think twice about marrying someone who rejected their adoptive parent who sacrificed everything for them

Even if her mother had been a highschool drop out for her own reasons whatever they might be BEFORE she adopted her niece she STILL should have treated her mother with love, gratitude, and respect. Its ESPECIALLY BRUTAL though that she literally SACRIFICED that part of her life and had to DROP OUT OF SCHOOL to take care of her family and her daughter berated her for it.
Well, that was a fun story, of entitled bratty daughter who gets her just deserts in the end!....Misery !!......:

You can't tell a person is a drop out by just looking at them. No one in his family would know about her mother unless SHE told them.

The sad thing is, a lot of times, parents who cut ties with their children are vilified; "How could you abandon your child? You're a heartless monster!"
What the people who say that don't realize is that in a lot of cases, here included, the parent is totally justified in doing it because their child is selfish, abusive, toxic, and everything in between. Poor June gave her all for Lia, and Lia responds by being an ungrateful, obnoxious cretin. June doesn't need that crap in her life.
Some old sayings come to mind:

An old friend of mine was adopted as an infant (as in, a few days old). He knew this from a young age and it didn't matter to him as he had loving and caring adoptive parents. When he got older, married and had kids, he started wondering about his background and the identity of his birth parents. So he got involved in an adoption rights group that helped people find their birth parents. He found out about his birth parents but both were deceased by that time.
Anyway, he told me that a surprising number of people he helped with their searches eventually found out that the people they thought were mommy and daddy were really aunt and uncle, and the backstories of the adoptions were similar to the story here. Apparently this kind of thing isn't unusual.
One other old saying that fits here: "Any woman can be a mother, but it takes a special kind of woman to be a mommy."
I get how the aunt feels. In my life I have taken care of my niece along with ❤️ niece and nephew's (long time best friend's children). My niece was so conflicted so many times when it came to her mom my sister. My sister (RIP) was an addict and it caused a ton of turmoil in all of our lives. My niece just wanted her mom's love. Sadly she looked for that with my sister and ended on a path similar to her's (RIP). I wish I could take back some of the things I said. Every day I wish I could say goodbye.
My thoughts for the aunt PLEASE DON'T GIVE UP ON HER. SHE REALLY NEEDS YOU. I don't mean financially but for love and hugs. You will regret it because I do.
When the child you raised says things that make you realize she only stayed as long as you supported her and essentially disowns you when she's marrying a wealthy husband, because she was ashamed of you and wouldn't need you once married...until you stopped paying for her share of the wedding that you weren't invited to, its too late to be nice and go "all is forgiven". When the truth hurts, the truth does the cutting of ties for you.
Sadly, I know how this mom feels. So, yes, there are daughters out there that are like this.

I felt sorry for Lia when she found out the truth, and during that last exchange I was waiting for a reconciliation... despite what Lia had said to her, as the person who looked after and raised Lia her whole life, her caregiver would have forgiven her. I'm not a mum, so I don't fully understand, but I know that any good mum or carer is always willing to forgive if their child is genuinely sorry. I was literally saying to the screen "Apologise already! She'll forgive you!" I was really disappointed when Lia said 'it was a slip of the tongue, I didn't mean it'... at that moment, Lia lost all hope to be forgiven. She apologised in her next message, but it was too late - the moment she tried to excuse her despicable behaviour, she lost any trust and forgiveness her mum had left. I do think the fiancée wasn't being fair by judging Lia based on who her parent was, but if I were the fiancée I'd be put off by her embarrassment of her carer. My point is, if you want forgiveness, take responsibility, as I said Lia lost any chance she had the moment she tried to make excuses for her appalling attitude.

I thought it was going to turn out that Lia's birth mother was an addict of some type. When it was revealed that she was a felon who attempted murder, wow! That's all I thought.
The brat is blessed to still have her mother, I would give anything for just one one day with my mother. I miss her everyday.
Called it, I had a feeling the real mom was her sister and potentially someone who went to jail. Awesome ~

The real issue here is that Lia should have been given a clue that she was adopted early on. Over protecting her wasn't giving her a chance to mature into a well- adjusted adult.
Have to wonder what story they gave her about her father. It's somewhat understandable why he wasn't in the picture, but she should have eventually been told about him. Maybe just leave off the murder attempt.

I hope OP gets her GED and finds a way to get into a college program. If she were in high school 24 years ago, she's only in her early 40s now, and has a long life ahead of her. It should, God willing, be the best she can possibly make it.
