  • Comparing tc-flower and rte_flow Offloading in OVS - David Marchand, Red Hat
Two frameworks exist for offloading complex packet processing to our NICs. One is the well known tc-flower framework that resides in the kernel and has been used for some time in OVS. The other one is our DPDK rte_flow framework for which OVS has some level of support. This talk will provide a status of the rte_flow integration in OVS, what gaps with tc-flower were identified. It will also provide some performance numbers comparing flow insertion rates for a CX6 NIC with the two frameworks. Finally an overview of the current works in progress will be given, on both DPDK and OVS sides.
Accelerating Network Performance - The most popular kit to accelerate packet processing on a wide variety of CPU architectures Designed to run on x86, POWER and ARM processors, DPDK is a set of libraries running mostly in Linux userland, with a FreeBSD port available for a subset of features. www.dpdk.org/
