- Go to any market in Ghana and you'll no doubt see bolts of colourful fabric for sale. But in recent years, demand has fallen for locally made cloth. Imported, mass-produced fabrics may not be as beautiful, but they are cheaper. It's led one woman on a crusade to ensure that the knowledge of how to make Ghana's hand-printed batik fabric isn't forgotten. Katerina Vittozzi has more.

The Government should sponsor her and help her with funds so she can have a bigger workshop or even a factory. She s competing with cheap foreign imports and with the Vlisco Dutch wax company.
@cat Stapleton after some time governmental protection is very important and needed.
Interesting, I thought Batik can only be found in Indonesia and Malaysia? I'm happy it's an international thing now.

Batik origin is in java
Batik means Amba Titik or writing dots in Javanese language
Only the word batik come from java. No one really know the origin of batik or waxing painting technique.
@@wakakabravo7998 My brother, Batik is purely from Java. Batik refers to a technique which is divided into 3 techniques, namely Written batik, Stamped batik, and Painted batik. Those three techniques are purely from Java. Which if in this video using the stamped batik technique. So batik refers to the technique NOT the art of waxy fabrics, because the art of waxy fabrics originates from Egypt. But when this art of waxy fabrics entered Java, in the hands of the Javanese, batik techniques were created by Javanese.
That's why batik from Indonesia has a very complicated pattern, because it uses those three batik techniques, So Batik is the art of waxy fabrics that use Written batik, Stamped batik, and Painted batik techniques
