- In this video, we will be replacing the cracked back glass on this Apple iPhone X using a back glass that has a bigger camera hole which speeds up the repair time as well as gives a better result. The replacement process is sped up to make the video shorter. If you have any specific questions about the repair, please comment below.
In this video, I use multiple tools. While these tools are helpful some of them are not necessary.
You will need appropriate safety gear before attempting this repair (safety glasses and heat resistant gloves)

May I ask where you obtained the "kickstand" that you put the phone into to separate the cables? And that clear plastic cover you put over the internals while you removed the pieces of the back glass?

How do you get the apple logo on the glass. Because on the link in your description they don’t have an apple logo on that glass

Very grateful for this video! My screen is unresponsive but the back is the only visible damage. But I hear the phone lock sound with the lock button. It was in airplane mode when I broke it so I don't have another way to check functionality to my knowledge. Do you think replacing the back glass could do the trick?
No, replacing the back glass will not make your phone work, it’s just a glass. Sounds to me like your front screen is damaged even though you don’t see any visible physical damage. If you are able to hear the sound of the device locking that means the phone is on, and if nothing is displaying then it’s your screen.
Hey mate great video, I see a lot of comments about damage to the camera stability when back glass is being replaced, what precautions should be made to ensure there is no damage to the camera
I would recommend pulling the camera out. This would be the safest way. If you open the phone up, then you are able to unplug the battery and pull out the camera. That is how you for sure know you won’t damage it. If you want to save time and do the repair without opening up the phone then I would just recommend being very careful not to put to much glue around the camera bracket. If any glue seeps in, it will most likely damage the camera. Hope this helps!

That’s the original color of the Space Gray iPhone X, but I’m sure you can get all kinds of custom colors.

Yes, but there are some models, like the iPhone 8 and 8 plus which has the camera frame included with the glass.

Does Face ID still work after a repair like that? I have broken mine with a single crack and don’t know if it’s worth replacing or just getting a nice case. Really frustrating
The faceID part of the phone is never touched so it’ll still work with no issues. This repair is definitely on the more difficult side, especially if you don’t have the right tools. A safer alternative is to swap the entire housing. You can find the entire housing with small parts on eBay for $60 or so and all you have to do is swap the board and the battery. Not if you use the big hole glass. You don’t have to touch the camera lens so no need to remove it.
Hi I wanted to ask you a question? Do you need to take the screen or you don’t have to. And dose the heat damage the screen if I do keep it on? Pliz answer as soon as possible 😭
Normally I don’t take the screen off. Taking the screen off is the safest way in case things go wrong (like puncturing the battery or using to much glue next to the rear camera) otherwise the heat does not damage the screen. The screen gets way more heat during refurb process and it doesn’t get damaged so this process doesn’t damage it either. I would recommend taking the screen off for someone who is doing it the first time or has not done any similar repairs.
You forgot to discharge the phone by holding the power button for at least 15 seconds. The capacitors still hold a charge and can damage the connectors. Also, remove battery.

Its a bit more difficult to tell on an XR because the back glass comes with the rear camera lens, If the glass was installed properly you might not be able to tell at all.
Did the wireless charge function still work ?
Yes, you have to be careful when going around the wireless charging pad, if you don’t poke any holes then it should work just fine.

would it be easier to transfer everything into a new frame?
If you buy high quality frame with all the small parts preinstalled it may be easier, but they are expensive. If you go with the cheaper option and just get the frame without the small parts preinstalled then it takes awhile, and there are more things that could go wrong.
Hey I had a quick question isn’t 200 degrees Celsius too hot for the phone?
As long as you are constantly moving the heat gun it’ll be fine, if you use lower heat then it will take much longer to heat to have the glue soften.
Are there 2 versions of the black one for x (like regional differences) bc I ordered a back glass and it looks the same as the one in the video, but the orignal back is a little bit darker, while this one looks greyish. Also the apple logo and text are more bright on the original one.
The camera and light makes it look a bit more grayish, but it all comes down to the quality you buy.

But you haven't remove and fix the glass.
Yes that is because this glass comes with a big hole that fits around the frame of the camera.

Yes, same method for XS Max. I definitely wouldn’t recommend using a lighter though.

Will it be okay to leave the battery in ?
I leave the battery in, but the safest way is to remove the battery because you don't want to accidentally puncture it when you are removing the glass around the wireless charging pad. As for the heat, as long as you move the heat around it will not damage the battery.
What is the model of your heat gun?
Any heat gun station will work, we recently ordered a few new stations model CO-Z 858D Rework Station, they work great and under $40.
replace back door its posible without open Protector camera?
Using the big hole back glass you don’t have to remove the camera frame to replace the back glass
what is the diference between camera holes? why they have 2 sizes?
Normally you would have to cut off the camera lens frame, install the back glass and then reattach the camera lens frame. With a big camera hole you can just put the glass over the camera lens frame so you don’t have to remove it.

Why did you remove the LCD?
Jazib Zafar safer for the repair, people also remove battery as well to prevent it from damaging or swelling up!
What is the heat gun temp set at?
200 degrees C. or 392 degrees F.
You can increase that or decrease that depending on your preference. Just remember to constantly keep the heat moving.

As long as you keep the heat gun moving, it will not damage the battery or any other component.
Can i use hair dryer?
No. A hair dryer will not produce enough heat.
Why do you have to remove the display?
You don’t have to remove the the display, in fact most of the back repairs we do without removing the screen. It is just the safest way so you can unplug the battery and also you can remove the camera ( not shown in this video) to protect it from any glue in case some gets in around the camera lens. I’d recommend removing the display, unplugging the battery and removing the camera to someone who is going to do it for the first time.
Can you remove back glass withought having to open anything up front?
Yes we do it all the time, but for some who has never done it I’d recommend take it apart.
Is 3ml enough glue
You just need a thin layer around the edges and in the center, 3ml should be plenty.

If you’re just replacing a broken back glass why did you take the screen glass off ?
When you are working with sharp objects around the battery as well as the wireless charging pad you want to unplug the battery. It’s completely necessary, and we do most of our screen without taking the screen off, but for someone who is never done it it’s best to unplug the battery. Also, at that point you can just remove the screen and protect it from getting scratched. Hope this helps. Thanks

It’s absolutely stupid to have back glass when it has to be removed like this. Apple needs to have just stayed with the metal back.
They needed it to be glass so that they can finally have the wireless charging. I do agree that they could have made it much simpler to replace like on the Samsung. If you do enough of them it becomes pretty simple.
