The laugh is supposed to be like this but you have to admit... James Arnold Taylor managed to do one of the greatest forced laughs in video game history, which is why it is hilarious in many ways.
This scene has 3 different types of laughter and they all convey different things. It's brilliant. Also yes I'm replying on a 4 year old comment, don't care.
@@Josh_Stuchbery It's perfectly fine, I'm glad I'm getting the point across rather than people just using this to say the "voice acting is cringe" after hearing 1:59
As a meme, I love this scene. As a cutscene in the game for what happens around the time, I actually think it's sad/heartwarming. It's really goofy taken this out of context, but it's supposed to be goofy in the game too. Hence Yuna going "You probably shouldn't laugh anymore." ITS SUPPOSED TO BE FUNNY TOO.
This is a great scene. If you don't get the context. They're supposed to be fake laughing. It's like smiling when you're sad. And they laugh for real right after.
"Tidus, quit being so emo!" "But then I'll stop being a Final Fantasy protagonist" "Just laugh dammit" *Laughs* "Never mind, be emo just...don't do that again"
This scene actually seems pretty genuine and heart warming. She’s trying to cheer him up, and they both end up laughing at and with one another by the end. If anything, its a testament to how good Tidus’ VA is. That laugh is one of the most iconic laughs in video games.
PFFFF! Sincere, honest and touching can be written much better than this. There's few things more embarrassing in a story than a badly written moment of character development while the music in the background tries to play it straight.
Say what you want about this scene, but this has got to be one of the most genuine moments in video game history. The emotions and feelings behind this scene were real. I could feel a real memory being made here between these two characters, one that manifested itself in the player and made it feel like it was your memory as well. All a product of great voice acting and excellent character development.
I personally feel that this is at least one of the most heartwarming scenes in the game, or even among all the final fantasy games. I know I can't be the only one.
@Joofing not really because once you understand the context it doesnt stick as a meme as much because its not genuine and doing that kinda tarnishes this well done scene
This scene makes me cry... He just realized that his dad is turned into a giant whale-monster that destroyed his home city... Yet he laughs... it pains me to think what is happening at his heart. Yes, taken out of context, it's cringe-worthy. But the first time Iwatched this scene, I was really heart broken. I mean, Tidus just found out that his father was Sin and had just killed those people in Kilika. Then Yuna told him to laugh even during that somber moment, of course he had to force out that painful laugh. I would have laugh for 2 seconds before my major cry lol.
The voice actor for Tidus just confirms this scene IS suppose to be intentional. And people STILL didn't get the picture even though the picture is RIGHT IN FRONT OF THEM AND HAVING A HUGE RED CIRCLE ON THE ANSWER. Some people are dumb as fuck.
Oh ok, so this scene being so shunned was because all those JonTron wannabe youtubers just took this out of context without actually seeing the entire scene?
I actually liked this scene. Besides the animation, it actually felt very human. It actually felt like they're preparing themselves to continue high morale on a pilgrimage.
One of the best most misunderstood scenes in video game history? This scene gets taken out of context a lot because James Arnold Taylor does a great job of fake laughing.
Me watching the scene out of context: "Oh my god, that's hilarious!" Me seeing it in context: "Awww, that's actually kinda sweet (but still hilarious)."
OK I always thought this scene was just ludicrous but after playing and getting to this part I faced 2nd hand embarrassment but the awkwardness is actually organic in this interaction. Gives me a tinge of happy sadness.
I mean all things considered, the forced laugh as hilarious as it is out of context, in context makes a lot of sense and captures the "awkwardly forced laughter" perfectly
