I recently bought the KM131R Kombi with the straight lawn edger and the blower. I absolutely love it. The blower is so powerful that you have to make sure that small children don't get blown away. They said if I bought the Stihl synthetic oil with the Kombi, they would double my warranty. Just make sure that the attachments are fully seated in the head unit short shaft. I bought the most powerful head motor so that, at a later date, I would have plenty of power to operate the rubber paddle-wheel attachment.
I also own a Husqvarna 455 Rancher chainsaw so I want to settle on a gas/oil mixture that can be used on both of these units. I like what some people have said about using a 40:1 mixture instead of a 50:1 mixture for greater lubrication of the engine.

131 is a beast. Have all the attachments for it and really the reason to use the 131r is the redefiner. If you will never use it than the 111 will make you more than happy. But the cultivater and the redefiner are just awesome tools for fixing neglected jobs.

I own the pole pruner for my KM91R. I HAD the steel extension but after running the pole saw for a few minutes I took the steel extension back and got the carbon fiber extension. I had not used the steel extension, so I have no experience with how that changes the balance of the unit ice the saw and extension is running. I can say that I appreciate how well balanced the Kombi motor and pole saw are. I have only used it for a week on my very small but incredibly overgrown property, so I’m no expert. I love how versatile and easy to use these Stihl products are. Not at all inexpensive, but I know a lot of folks that build them (factory is just up the road from here), and I can tell you that every single one of the folks stands behind the products they build. It impressed me so much that I think I’ll continue to buy Stihl.

Been using the Kombi System for over 3 years now. I own the KM90 and several of the tools for it. Been thinking of upgrading but not sure how the newer systems have been performing. Haven't had to do any maintenence to mine and that's been with moderate to heavy use. Also, when receiving mulch, do you not put a tarp where they're going to dump it? That's always made cleanup easier for me. And if you're ever in need of cleaning mulch out of the yard, try the paddle broom. It makes moving heavier objects easier than using a blower. Keep up the good work

I am a small lawn business and I have all of the attachments. I love them all. They are very durable and love the work they do. Once you have beds edged, I don't pull the grass in the beds, as you mentioned you were going to do, I use the same bed edger and turn it to the side and it will take that grass out for you. It does a great job and is a time and labor saver. 131 is the only way to go. Going smaller would not be my suggestion.

The chainsaw, hedge trimmer, cultivator, nylon bristle broom and the edger.
I find the edger leaves a cleaner cut than the bed redefiner, so I'm not sure if I'll buy one or not.
I guess a lot depends on the soil and grass conditions too. Cheers Brian.

  • @lyle7657
    @lyle7657 5 лет назад +1

All I use is the Stihl kombi system. To me you can’t beat it for the price. I had a 131 and a 56. The only downside to the 131 is it is heavy. It will plow through anything though. I used it mostly for edging and trimming extra tall grass. I mostly use the 56 because it’s pretty light and has good enough power. Never get the curved shaft edger or curved string trimmer for either of them especially on the 56 because you’ll be edging for the rest of your life. Get the straight edger and straight trimmer it’s a huge time saver and you get more power out of them. The blower attachment gets the job done but you can’t beat the backpack blowers. BR600 will blow your face off

I have the 131 and use it for every thing including the paddle broom pole saw and hedge trimmer. Awesome tool. But for the hedge trimming and pole saw work the best motor head is the 56 for anything reaching in the air because of the weight but although I would like a hand held unit I will never get rid of mine. It is a pain for the tiny ones, although doable. But when you pull up and have a ten foot tall bush like i did yesterday its amazing

Im a mean sum bish with a weed eater. I can weed eat, edge, edge flower beds, get grass sticking up in beds down to dirt, get grass in cracks on walk ways and street cracks, and I keep extra string (i have the exact amount it takes to fill down pat) in my back pockets. I've even used a large water bottle to put gas in on large weed eating ventures and kept that in my pocket to refill and keep rockin. I also work in a circle so I begin and end in the same place as to not walk back and forth wasting time. I map out where I begin and end on each yard in my stupid brain and before I even hop out of the truck I have it calculated and walk to my special start and finish spot. I can weed eat flush in ditches and around signs and mailboxes. I can weed eat to the dirt around fences on both sides giving an edge to a friggin fence. My weed eat skills are impeccable I get In the zone and I actually begin to have a blasty blast with myself and my perfectionist style . I always stop after a long while and take a quick look around and a breather and even when no one is around i yell out yall see this shit? You cant learn this in no history book! Haha! And I have no Idea why any of this matters or is relevant to anything cuz it isnt. But taking an edger piece over a yard I have edged with my weed eater would not do the job like it needs at all as I would have dug in a nice bit more than that blade ever could. Plus what about a long gravel driveway Or a long windy asphalt driveway where the edger doesnt click up like it does on a nice walk way or driveway? My edger attachment is literally for my workers who cant weedeat like me I will let them use it on certain yards I dont need my expert skills on. Cuz you cant beat my edge with an attachment tool no questions asked . But it took over 5 years to figure out. Now I will say I've seen guys who say they have done this all their lives and pick the weedeater up and are wacking around botching spots up making a mess walking all around back and forth missing spots not weed eating flush. I'm like bro? You've been doing it your whole life and doing it wrong horribly. Once you get the patterns down which I have named (landscaping highways) you can follow your same pattern or highway everytime you come and you get faster and faster at the same places over time and figuring out the angles to hold the thing will come in time when your strength builds enough to hold it how you want when you want for however long you want.

Kombi is ok meaning the edging but I had to shelf my 131 I had to go back to old spade and foot power about 4 inch back make a nice crisp defined edge deeper yes you have to pick up after but makes the job pop and you feather it to the edge so a heavy rain does not wash away. I had a mulch blower truck do 2500 yard 2 weeks ago came out nice a 3 man crew should be able to do 150 yards with edging looks nice I respect you and your company but Iam in New York 15 miles outside of the city a total different demon. But glad to see your doing well was that single or double hit root mulch looks good

After you use the redefiner, follow behind with a weed trimmer. Turn the way you would edge a sidewalk. This helps clean the edge so the grass isn’t coming over the bed edge. Good luck!

Try using a Brown bed redefiner pull behind unit. Creates a much cleaner edge in my opinion, just build the rental cost in the mulch price, can't go wrong with it.

Get the whole kombi system Brian. Its the only one I will ever own.. I have all the attachments. Excellent machine. Yes it's heavy, but 1. Quality is always well built and heavy, 2. Buy the universal shoulder harness with hip side plate for it. It bears the weight. . 3 take your weed eater head after you use the redefiner, and use the string to cut a crispy line in the edge of the grass. It literally doubles asthectic appearance. Way way cleaner looking

We run a couple Kombi's and have a hedge trimmer attachment with another extension, a stick edger and paddle broom. Was thinking about this bed re-definer, we have the ECHO re-definer and I think it does better than the Still, at least by this video. It looks like the ECHO digs a deeper edge and cleans out the edge better. I think both of these tools are for bed edges that are well defined not grown over like those looked to be. Another tip for ya, take a trimmer and edge the beds after and cut off all the fuzzy edges.

I’ve used the stihl 131r kombi with almost every attachment just fine but when I used it with the bed redifiner the attachment shaft would get hot after about an hour and it broke the shaft, and the second time I used it after an hour I blew the clutch on the 131. The bed redifiner is only good If there’s no roots or rocks, i had to stop using it and rent a big machine to finish up my customers. And yes I was using it correctly

I'm thinking about getting this today actually. I use a straight edge shovel right now but it's not efficient. It adds an hour or more to big jobs.

I love the 131, i took my articulating hedge trimmer off of the fixed unit and threw it on so i can just swap em out. Id look into seeing if you prefer the short pole or the longer pole. The only thing is you have to turn up the idle after its broken in a 1/4 to 1/2 turn. Also make sure your not turning/twisting to get any attachment out for some reason thats how some people do it and its a sure fire way to break the plastic insert(ive not broken one). If your doing lots of hedge trimming a pole trimmer and a shorty hand trimmer 24" is best for time imo.
The saw is a must, id also only use the light weight extension. I also highly suggest running 91 octane through it so it keeps the gas from boiling and vapor locking down to a minimum, its already hot enough to do it a few times. You know its getting hot when you go top it off and once it depressurizes and instantly boils over.
Its heavier than my bcz260ts but tons more power = to bcz350s power/weight. Its a light saber through tall grass, and you can feather the trigger just not as easy as a pure 2 stroke.

Is the plastic insert you're talking about the little white piece of plastic where the two shafts connect? Recently got the pole saw and lost the little white piece but it seems to work fine without it. Didn't really even think about it but looking at all my other attachments the little white piece is still there.

yes you should get a new one they are a couple bucks, they usually break when people get to aggressive inserting or removing the attachment.

I prob said this before but we use a Power edger just to cut a nice straight (or smooth curve) line then follow up with a hand edger and pick up the edgings with a pitchfork. End result is much cleaner than what I see there... I have been looking at the bed redefiner as a combi attachment but haven't really been impressed with the finished look.

I have the stihl 131, and just ordered the re definer attachment. Do you need somewhat of an edge to use the re definer or can you make an edge from scratch with it?
