- This video is the third video to the pinch and coil vase and bowl skillbuilder series showing glaze prep and application using Coyote cone 6 glazes. In this video, I show prep necessary to glaze their vases and bowls, the glaze selection considerations they must make, and also the basic application methods of brushing, pouring, and bulb syringe of underglazes. I made this video for my Ceramics I students at Mason High School in Mason, Ohio. This is the second exercise (non-graded) that the kids do in clay for their semester Ceramics I class. They are adding to their learning and building skills they will use throughout the semester. The learning goals are to add surface design to their forms, reinforce the technique of pinching, while adding coils for additional height. They will learn how to use cone 6 glazes on this skillbuilder.
We are using Standard 225 for this exercise. It is la grogged midfire light brown stoneware which will be bisque fired and glazed.

I am a public high school ceramics teacher at William Mason High School in Mason, Ohio. (Mason is currently the largest high school in Ohio!) As a potter, I have been working in clay for over 30 years, and I have been teaching for over 28 years, the past 20 have been specifically teaching high school ceramics. I love what I do! I have my own studio in my home basement, where I work on my personal pottery for my Etsy site;

Thanks for sharing your beautiful artwork!
I have just recently started learning to make pots and am loving watching your videos. They are the best for learning...thanks for sharing your expertise.
Thank you so much! 🥰
Thank you for another great lesson!
Hi . I love your videos. Thank you . What happens to the clay party when it goes in the cone 6. Does it bisque snd then become a reusable cookie? Thank you
I meant patty
The fired patty is reusable if glaze didn’t run and stick to it. In my classroom I don’t bother to kiln wash them, but if I ever need to use them at home, I do kiln wash them just to help prevent plucking of my white porcelaneous claybody.
your channel is amazing! After 15 yrs teaching MS, I will be teaching HS Ceramics next year. I love all your lessons and tips! Thank you for sharing!
Wonderful- I’m glad I can help in some way!! 🥰
Nice work. I work almost exclusively in raku but the glazes came out nice and has me thinking about faux breaking effects for my glazes. Well done 👍
Thank you! Cheers!
I was told that using a fan brush is not useful for glazing, because I've been wanting to try it. Sooooo, who knows 🤷
Lol- there are different fan brushes for different purposes- the ones I have are lovely, fluffy ones that hold a nice amount of glaze!! I know I’ve used fan brushes in the past that aren’t fluffy, and those would not be practical!
@@KaransPotsAndGlass thank you! And that bottle of black underglaze, omg they clog up constantly lol.
Honestly, it’s usually in much better shape than that was! I had not use that bottle of underglaze since last spring, and I should have run it through a sieve before I started using it! 😂
@@KaransPotsAndGlass lol I know the struggle! Being a perfectionist isn't easy. I still enjoy your videos. I don't remember how long I've been subscribed to your channel but it's been a while.
Cos è quel liquido nero? Grazie!
