    This is amazing! I feel like a lil bit less sand would make it even better cuz you can see it's pushing a lot when creating new lines close to the old ones. Having sand level half depth of the ball could make it crispy. Can't wait for lego nuclear reactor

  • @danriehl4244
    @danriehl4244 Год назад +156

    So you've basically just made the frame of a CNC out of (mostly) LEGO. From this, you can flip it upside down and replace the magnet with a motor and drill bit to complete that, or if you mount that whole assembly higher, you can add a platform that moves along the Z-axis to make a 3D printer.
    I feel like the LEGO would melt if left near a hot end, though...

    This was really cool to see. It’s a shame LEGO is trying to hold you back by not making 500 stud axels

    • @khaos14
      @khaos14 5 месяцев назад

      This is just a hypothesis, but I think it might have something to do with the sturdiness of plastic. Granted, I’m relatively new to LEGO, so I don’t know if they’ve ever made blocks out of metal, but from what I can tell they just use plastic (except for the motorized ones). A 500 stud axel made of plastic, because of all the holes, would be extremely flimsy and liable to break (like gum when you stretch it out), even more so if there’s a lot of moving parts involved (since movement causes friction, which generates heat, melting the plastic). The metal axels don’t have that problem, since the friction caused by the movement, while generating enough heat to melt plastic, it’s not enough to melt metal.

    The one thing I'm curious about is how the metal parts and the plastic parts interact. I have seen cases where metal parts end up destroying plastic parts. Doesn't make much difference if it's just something short lived like I suspect this is. But if you set this up to continuously run, it could end up failing faster than you expect.
