It almost seem like Aaliyah became more shy as she got older. Even in her performances she seemed more comfortable like on here, she looks likes shes having fun too.

I agree that her confidence was affected, but Aaliyah was always shy especially when it came to performing. If you listen to all her interviews, there are times when she mentions that her shyness is a part of personality (ISFP). She recorded many of her songs in dim light. When she was with R. Kelly, they created a steet persona for her. To me it seems like she was dialing it up for the camera. After R. Kelly, we're actually seeing more of her real self, which is reserved. She also just matured.

I like this era of Aaliyah. She was more open and bubbly during the early years of her career. When she got with Tim and Missy she seemed more reserved in her interviews. She became more private as she got older. Which I’m not saying it’s a bad thing it’s just looking back at her old interviews you see the growth and the decision for her to not let people know anything about & be mysterious
She had a lot to hide

Aaliyah was 15 at the time of this so her personality ( during interview) makes sense💯 as she got older / growth becoming more reserved /pr savy etc. It tells me Aaliyah was on top of her game having Keen discernment on how the Industry is & can turn people who don't stay true to self . She had alot of people who truly loved her & wanted to protect in her tight circle , I think that helped keep her poised being an exceptional🕶🎷🎼🎸 young woman 💜
I think it was after the R. Kelly situation that changed her vibe with the public. Most probed her about the situation and it got to the point where she wouldn't do an interview if they intend to ask anything about him or the situation.
She's so cute and funny here. She seemed more reserved in her later interviews but was always fly and had "swag".

I agree, Aaliyah's music and style were much better, because Whitney was too much polished and classic to me (although she had a very rough attitude LOL), i'm a big Lili fan, but i admit that her voice was nothing compared to Whitney's voice. Houston got probably the best voice in the industry.

A lot of black people moved up north from the south before civil rights for better jobs and lives. It definitely influenced the black culture up north. Some might deny it though trying to be uppity.
Not as country as the south, but the Midwest has a twang and it comes out in certain situations.
