I contemplated putting my psc reservoir through the hood. Mines in essentially the same location under the hood. If i have problems it will probably end up through the hood but so far its fine. My xj is pretty heavily modified but ive spent a lot of time making it look nice a ridiculous amount of time lol. Im very picky and i enjoy working on things. But after seeing your reservoir through the hood its not bad.
@@BraapFamilyOffroad my Jeep is fairly chopped up and reworked. I always try to go for form and function and I usually find a way sometimes it's expensive though. But there's a few things that you just can't get around. I should do a walk around of my cherokee sometime, it's apart at the moment. Im on 37s and I do a lot of on road driving with it but it's the most heavily modified cherokee that I've seen in person that runs down the road nicely. I'm running dana 60 crate axles from ECGS front and rear with ox lockers and a bunch of goodies then an atlas 4 speed I have the aw4 trans still I really like that trans it has some mods and also the nifty shifter but I use a rad design vx shifter assembly. I also have a golen 4.6 engine. I have a ridiculous amount of custom fab stuff and accessories. I have a lot of electrical accessories and I run dual spod's to help power that stuff. The list is quite long of all the detail stuff. I'm really proud of my interior I have a comfy fairly complete interior with a cage and aftermarket seats and all that stuff. I've had this particular cherokee for a long time I try to keep the body nice and protect it, this time around I stripped it down to a bare body and installed frame stiffeners front to back plus extra stiffening in areas then I removed all the factory seam sealer throughout and stitch welded most of the chassis kinda like a race car then I went back with modern 2 part 3m seam sealer and painted the inside and other areas then did dynamat throughout the doors and floors and quarters. Then I used a closed cell foam sound deadening insulation on the floor on top of the dynamat specifically so I could install my new carpet but remove the factory style cotton fiber insulation that holds water if gotten wet and my carpet kit has a thick rubber backing but all this makes it so I can run carpet and also dry things out fairly easily if I get it wet. The floor and doors and everything are very sealed as best as they can be I replaced every seal through out the doors windows and hatch plus new window scrapers and felts even new glass that is privacy glass with the tint built in and I got rear quarter windows from a company called explore glazing that slide open and has guards on the outside. Anyways all this adds up to a cherokee that is much different than your normal rattly creaky xj it's pretty neat. It's kinda the culmination of 15 years of xj building and all my ideas I've wanted to try and the best of various things I've tested over the years. Also I planned for a lot of mods from the beginning of the rework it was a very planned build so I was able to run a lot of plumbing and things very cleanly and build around certain things. I wanted to fit all the stuff I like but not look super cluttered and there's a lot of stuff. Videos like yours give me new ideas or let me view how something might look. I really like how you decided to go through the floor to help with packaging I also modified my floors for some things but gave myself some leeway to let things hang down a little. I'm also not doing really extreme wheeling, some would call it extreme I guess but I'm in the pacific northwest and we have some gnarly stuff. I'm more into adventuring, kinda overlanding some people say rocklanding but I just say adventuring. I also do recovery work there's an orv park at the end of my street.
Great looking family first off and nice rig... Just bought 2000 XJ and not going extreme like yours but want to build a fun and capable rig to wheel with my family. Wonder if there is a way to communicate with you for some guidance and suggestions on what to and not to do with it etc. Can we email or something so I can show what I'm working with and give you idea of the type of wheeling I'd be doing and what you think I should change or upgrade etc.
What is limiting your steering from more stroke? I am using the same front axle with a 10" stroke double ended ram with no issues. Love your build and videos, keep it up!
I’m hitting the factory steering stops which is plenty of turning radius especially for a full body rig. The ram stroke size will be different depending on which steering arms you have. Appreciate the support!

I don’t personally think it needs one, the tubes on the sterling are pretty thick. I do recommend welding the tubes to the center section so they don’t spin. If I were to build a 4 link in the rear I’d truss it just to have somewhere to mount the upper links.

How much did you stretch the rear and are the leaf springs flipped
Yes, the springs are flipped plus the stretch perches. I also stretched it a little more with the leaf spring mounts for a total of 9.5”

Do you feel like you need a truss for the your rear?
