Excellent topic and perspective, resonated with me completely.
I have switched from physical books to ebooks almost 95% due to lack of space and financial constraints but I still find far more satisfaction from reading a physical book than an ebook and I try to procure physical copies of my personal favourites. The salience indicator helped me contextualise this. 🙏🏽

I will say as much as i love physical media, it can kind of be a double edged sword in that it can sort of become a 'God' in of itself. People collect for the sake of collecting and not taking the time to enjoy what they have.
I was falling into the same trap until I started just getting what i really loved.

I agree for sure. But I also think there are some people who get a lot of joy from their shelves being full of stuff, who don't care that much about each individual item. For example, people collect entire game libraries, where they get every PS1 game ever released or whatever, and they find it super satisfying. That type of collecting for the sake of collecting is anathema to me, and it sounds like it is to you too, but I think there are people out there who enjoy that more than appreciating each individual item. I guess I can't say what's better or what's worse, but it's definitely important to figure out what works for you -- otherwise you might end up with a collection that makes you say "why do I even have all this stuff?"
I used to fall into the same trap too, particularly with action figures, and had to make the same change you did. It's a lot more fun for me to look at a collection that feels curated and personal :)
