  • Trimming a small formal box / buxus hedge, this is the first trim of this hedge, in mid May, its next trim will be in about 2 months depending on weather, as with most hedges, the best tip i can give is never rushing.
    Using a battery hedge trimmer, make the task much easier and pleasant to do.
    Hope you enjoy and thank you for watching.

    Nice work Jason, what model is the battery stihl hedge cutter? Thinking about getting one myself, but not sure which model to choose.

      Thanks mate, it's the stihl hsa86, 24 inche blades, I like running the ap200 battery with it, minimum of 2 hours run time, but still nice and light, good general trimmer.

    I bought the same set up a couple of weeks ago after watching a few of your videos using it , very impressed with it . I got two paid jobs and cut my own hedges before the first battery died ( probably about 4 fill ups if it was petrol) . Very nice work on the hedge , Jason. Cheers 👍🍺

    Jason, what if the hedges you are trimming get overgrown? I have some for a client of mine and they want to take the overgrowth back. The hedge is roughly 4ft now and they want about 4-6 inches off the top and a few inches off the sides. Id like to know how to approach cutting it back without damaging the hedges for the client. I know it will be bare, but will I need to cut the entire bush back? Thank you ahead for any help. I am a year in and this is my biggest, most complex one to date with over 100 bushes/hedges.

    • @jasongardener3425
      @jasongardener3425  7 месяцев назад +1

      Hi, if possible and probably best, cut the top year 1 and sides year 2, April is a good time, if they are good and healthy, you could possible do top and side same time, but very stressful on the plants, feed well through the growing season and water in dry spells, obviously keep a eye for blight or moth, be sure to blow out all clipping and old leaves.
      👍

      @jasongardener3425 Thank you for the information. I appreciate and respect your experience.
      I have seen other people working with bushes/hedges reference how shearing may not always be the best approach when doing recovery. Would you recommend I approach with pruning, or is shearing the top appropriate, along with removing dead branches and debris, diseased areas? I know it will remove near the entire green on top, exposing brown branches in a vibrant green hedge. But with side foliage it should recover? Is this a "trust the process" type situation that I should explain to the client? I mentioned any extensive recovery cuts would take 1-2 years to fully recover coverage, but I don't have much actual experience with it, mainly trimming. Hence my hesitancy and seeking advice.
      Thank you again
