spectacular, no comments, I watch here from Brazil and I have a Herbie too, more humble (1300cc year 74), but steals the show, Congratulations, you have an amazing car
Personally, I'd rather not have the spotlight and fake outer fuel cap. Though, I would keep the wide arches and the wider tyres. Maybe try and swap a Porsche 914 5-speed in it too. But that's just me. Those aside, you've done an incredible job. For future content, I'd love to see Herb go out in public. I really like the ‘Herbie goes to Monte Carlo’ look - hence the gas cap and spotlight. The arches are actually standard size and I had the new rims made to sit perfectly in them. I will need to do some reaction videos once the world re-opens haha
@@HeathsGarage I'm cool with that. Honestly, not many people do those parts anyway. And really, I can't wait to see those vids. Love seeing kids lose it over a car they think is alive. Totally in love with this car! Herbie was among one of my favorite cherished childhood movies and I think it's so awesome how people to this day still love and treasure the little car that could. Even with that upgraded engine and exhaust, it still doesn't sound too terribly different than Herbie in the movie itself. I think that's important! Although I'm curious, does the ragtop sunroof do a good job at keeping you dry in the rain? And the three dislikes...I think we all know that those come from Peter Thorndyke, Alonzo Hawk, and Captain Blythe.

As a lifelong Herbie fan, this warms my heart, and blows my mind! The accuracy of this replica is so good! The only difference is he’s right hand drive rather than the traditional left hand drive that he is in his movies! But even then, this looks, and drives, and sounds so good!!! I think the right hand drive makes your Herbie more unique and more special! And maybe even adds character, which for Herbie, if you can add more character to him, the better! I love air cooled VW's. My first project car was a '69 beetle. I then had a VW rail with a 1600cc engine as a fun little vehicle to take offroading and occasionally hitting the mud with. They're a blast. We used to have a built 2180cc street legal rail buggy designed for red light to red light racing. Disc brakes, built trans, the whole 9. Even keeping up with a Saleen Mustang until we ran out of gears past the 1320. I have nothing but respect for this build. It's very well done. My only question is, how did you hit 206hp with a 2276? Hi Heath, I've connected up with Tony Voevodin and am restoring a Herbie in Adelaide. I was wondering if you can share with me how you painted or dyed the strips on your ragtop?
I'm planning on building my own Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo bug here in the US. I would love to get a parts list so I could get ideas for my build, pre 200 hp, if that's ok with you.
pretty cool but ill bet not too many of you You tubers can say this about your child hood ? i saw the Original Herbie Movie in a dive in with my parents and we went there in my Dads 1963 VW Beetle he bought brand new because he wanted to replace his 58 Beetle he also bought brand new and the 63 had a lot more power my Mom said she used to get tired watching my Dad shifting so much in the 58 driving through the Catskills Mountains in upstate New York in a effort to keep his speed up my Dad laughed hysterically through out the movie and i remember him running back and forth to the snack stand for popcorn and goodies why i remember that so well was it was th only time i was able to eat inside the car known as the Green Machine in our family as my Dad would always drive my Mom and other females in our family to go shopping in the Bug my Mom also said she never really knew how he did it but he was a master at tying all kinds of things to the outside of the car like play pens , Strollers . and other items she needed for the children he even tied new bikes in the boxes for Christmas presents one year btw the car did not have a roof rack i romberg the ropes being lashed thru the windows on the doors a him proudly getting in the car to drive and saying that was a tough one
Heath, Went to the 53rd herbie fest in Florida last year. I'd like your advice on building, I don't have a lot of time for the hot rod power tour, and want to build one, I have a white 65 needing floors and heater channels, or a 59 red (racoons got the interior, mice pee, rotted teh dash and trunk under hood, and i think gas tank too). I have a sunroof clip. Do I build the 65 and just paint a sunroof onto it for sake of time or do I put the sunroof in the 59 and repaint it white ? In the US, stock wheel is 15 in diameter, I have both bus rims (14") and beetle. - you took them to 6" wide ? ...maybe I need to just realize it takes a 6-12 months of hard work and I can't cram it into a few months ??
Hi Mate, these projects take time and it is always best to do it correct the first time (don’t rush it) I would personally use the 59 (as it will have the correct small windows) I believe the US 65’s have large windows. That way you will have a more accurate Herbie in the end. Depending on what movie you want to copy. The love bug he had 15” rims. In Monte Carlo he had 14” rims.
How did you apply the decal over the chrome if you cut it in half during application? I’m getting ready to apply decals to my car and want to achieve the proper look
CB Performance are masters of their craft! Pat Downs is a engine building beast haha I’m not sure of the compression off the top of my head. It is a CB super case, forged internals with 48 IDF Webers
Hey man really a cool car! I was looking to buy a beetle too but the 1960s beetle are getting really expensive! So I was thinking about buying a 1980's and readapting it to Herbie looks, is it even possibile? Thanks man!
Thanks mate, I’m glad you like my Herbie replica 😎👌🏼 You can backdate the looks of the newer beetle to look very similar to the 60’s beetle - the windows got larger as time went on. That would be the biggest difference.
Great build, congrats! Is your front lowered with adjusters or drop spindles? Is your beam narrowed or standard width? Also do you know the offset of your wheels?
Thanks 😁 It is a 2” narrowed front beam with adjusters to offset the 3/4” wider disc brake conversion. I think the back space of the rims were 95mm on the 15”x6” rim
Hey man! Another question! Where are you from I'm from Italy and down here we don't have many beetles, I found a group of possible choices, is Herbie a flat glass? (Idk how to say it in English lol) have you changed any other suspension parts or a bug is alwawys that low, because it looks sick and I can't understand if it is stock! What wheels have you fitted? And one last question: how much did you pay more or less for the whole thing? Thanks man again!
Hey Mate, I am from Australia. Herbie has got flat glass, the suspension is modified to get it lower. They are custom wheels to fit my 4 wheel disc brake kit 😎👌🏼
What an amazing Beetle, would love to see the expression on some boy racer’s face when you leave them sitting at the traffic lights.

How did you get decals to correct size and stuff? Amazing
All bought through mrherbie.com :)
@@HeathsGarage Wow thank you :)
Awesome build
Thankyou! I really appreciate it :)
Hi Heath, I've connected up with Tony Voevodin and am restoring a Herbie in Adelaide. I was wondering if you can share with me how you painted or dyed the strips on your ragtop?
Hi Ben, I used the VHT vinyl dye cans from any auto store 😎👍🏼
@@HeathsGarage Thanks mate!
What are the wheel spec? Looks like the tires fill the wells better than the stock radial tires.
Thankyou 😁 wheels are 15”x6” with 205/65/15 tyres all round
Do you know where I can find those rims?
They were custom made for me. There are a few places that offer them around the world - where are you from?
I’m in Alaska, USA. Looking at doing my own Herbie build using yours as a go by lol
Jbugs.com have them - but you will only need 15” rims if you fit disc brakes, if you keep the drums - 14”x6” is cheaper and movie correct
Car looks great. Saw the right hand drive, then I saw the license plate and it saw NSW on it. Does that mean New South Wales?
Thankyou 😊
Sure does, I’m in Newcastle NSW
Herbie 😊
super clean, how fast is 0-60 with the engine?
Thanks Matt, I appreciate it.
I actually have never done a actual 0-60 timed run, I might need to try that! 😎👍🏼
Imagine Gieslle the 1976 lancia scorpion lives in Australia too
She does 😉 a collector in Sydney bought it along with some screen used HFL cars and Horace the hate bug
Hi Mate, these projects take time and it is always best to do it correct the first time (don’t rush it)
I would personally use the 59 (as it will have the correct small windows) I believe the US 65’s have large windows.
That way you will have a more accurate Herbie in the end.
Depending on what movie you want to copy. The love bug he had 15” rims.
In Monte Carlo he had 14” rims.
Do you know where to get Herbie's tires Mr. Heath?
Tredwear.com 😁
If you look through my other videos I show how to install the tyre lettering
Can he wheelie?
Hey Heath are you planning on Making a General Lee one day.
I’ll need to finish KITT first, but I do feel the General is the one still missing from the collection 😎
Nice, I like your Herbie build, I might get my own Herbie one day.
The old beetle’s are a cool little car - I would highly recommend it
Indeed, I've been watching Herbie since I was 6 years old and Herbie goes to Monte Carlo is my favourite Herbie Movie.
How did you apply the decal over the chrome if you cut it in half during application?
I’m getting ready to apply decals to my car and want to achieve the proper look
This kit is from mrherbie.com it comes with the extra decal strip to put over the chrome trim
Pretty impressive power! What compression and what size webbers are you runing?
CB Performance are masters of their craft! Pat Downs is a engine building beast haha
I’m not sure of the compression off the top of my head.
It is a CB super case, forged internals with 48 IDF Webers
Hey man really a cool car! I was looking to buy a beetle too but the 1960s beetle are getting really expensive! So I was thinking about buying a 1980's and readapting it to Herbie looks, is it even possibile? Thanks man!
Thanks mate, I’m glad you like my Herbie replica 😎👌🏼
You can backdate the looks of the newer beetle to look very similar to the 60’s beetle - the windows got larger as time went on. That would be the biggest difference.
nice job! where did you buy the ragtop and the stripe stickers?
The decals were bought from mrherbie.com - the ragtop was from Mexico
@@HeathsGarage okay thank you very much
The gas tank door, is that functional?
It can be, I didn’t bother though
If I was going to do up a beetle to look like Herbie I would swap the 2.5L turbocharged and water cooled EJ257 engine from a Subaru Impreza into him.
Thanks !
Where you bought the red whit and blue strips of the beetle herbie
All the Herbie parts are from mrherbie.com 😁
Doe's CB run the motor in before that ship them?
Yep, they also come with a dyno sheet
@@HeathsGarage That's awesome!
Az eredeti Herbie 1961-es!
Como amó ase carro y a todos los modelos de Volkswagen
Probably the only two-door hot rod you’ll see in Australia. I don’t know what in the hell is wrong with those people down there…
How many meters does it have on the sunroof
Have you ever timed it 0-100 or 1/4 mile?
Not yet, I plan to in the future.
Because it is my daily driver I was mainly after better power and drivability - not a full blown race car
Amazing video, a very in depth peek into how Herbie made it! Tell me are the wings altered?
Thankyou :) nope, all body panels are standard
@@HeathsGarage perfect, Herbie looks amazing!
My herbie is real.
