I always had the problem with the "you cant know each other identity until you win" in that episode. In Chat Blanc Gabriel tried to separate them just to make Marinette an akuma victim, but we see that Adrien does eventually fall in love with Marinette even without knowing jer identity. So in that timeline Gabriel would have done that regardless of if they knew the secret identity of the other. Even more, Adrien could fight a little when he was anumatized because of Ladybug and not just destroy her. Obviously he ended up destroying everything and everyone, but if not for his indecision between him and Ladybug, then following Hawkmoth would have ended up worse so... And what makes me so sad is that both times it wasn't because of a broke heart or something with Marinette that he was akumatized. It was because both times he discovered his father was Hawkmoth and the body of his disappeared mother.
What's more, when he was akumatized the first, he was more scared that he couldn't resist than anything. I think it's more like his "psychopath" behavior in the episode was because he went a little insane bc of the guilt of all that destruction. As we see that he doesn't want to exactly do something bad, he just wants to fix everything that was destroyed bc of him.
