As a lifelong fan of aviation history and 'heavy metal' I can only express my sincere thanks for seeing these beautiful machines so lovingly restored and maintained. Those early fighter aircraft, in particular, stand out together with the incredible bravery of the people who flew them. Thank you!
Hats off to the mechanics, volunteers, pilots, support staff and researchers to keep these amazing icons of history still beautiful and functional. Wish I could see the air shows in person.
The otherworldly feelings people must have felt as they watched these “flying machines”when they first appeared! Stunning collection! Thank you for sharing them with us all!
To see this much aviation history flash by in 58 minutes gives a real sense of the astonishing technological advances that took place in such a short time. Especially the aircraft of 1930, where they didn't look that different from WWI just 12 years earlier, when you know what WWII aircraft looked like 12 years in the future.
Wonderful collection of vintage aircraft in the right setting. My all time favourite is the beautiful Hawker Hurricane. I had the pleasure of making some of the fuselage tubes for this actual example many years ago when I worked for Hawkers.
I never´ll forget the day, coming from Spain, I visited the Old Warden Shuttleworth Collection. It wasn´t during an airshow, and none of the aircraft were to be flown that day. But the Shuttlewort Collection Team were so kind to let me to visit inside the hangars, taking all the photos I wanted, of all the planes, and to take a look at their restoration projects. What such good smell of oil, canvas, and rubber !..Thank you for sharing this video and to bring to my mind these good memories.
Really? I am a RC modeller and some years ago embarked on building a model of the Gloucester Gladiator. Went there for some photos of the "real" thing but they wanted me to buy a "permit" for £35.00 first. Hardly accommodating.
Thank you so very much for this fantastic plethora of flying machines. Grateful thanks to the Folks that keep them flying and also to the terrific skills of the actual pilots. All respects also to those that flew them in combat over the years. Wonderful time I had watching this magic!
Just wonderful and exciting. Hope you can keep this going. If I ever visit the UK, I will certainly make the Shuttleworth Collection a must see. As someone else commented thank you for no music or other bs. The sound of those machines is music to my ears.
At 91 I think I could still get into a Gladiator or a Lysander, take off and get it back on the ground safely. A great film and the pilots of the first few in the collection deserve praise for their courage.
Why not? If you did that at 18 years old, you still can. Gravity and air density haven't changed much. Go for it. A co-pilot might be a good idea, but I bet you still know what to do. How long have you been a pilot?
As a hang glider pilot, these were the RC planes i built as a kid. Would have loved to live in that era. Flying, the obsession of mankind for almost 6000 years and only became accessible in our times. What an amazing privilege. Thanks Wilbur and Orville for cracking its secret.
Excellent! Especially the fact that there was no annoying music. Just the sweet sound of aircraft engines. Wish I could visit but its a long swim from the colonies to the UK. ;-)
This is flat-out wondrous. I love that classic airfoil on the Blériot-illustrious pathbreaking plane. God bless you Brits! Cheers from the States 🇺🇸💛🇬🇧
I want to thank all of the gentlemen who spent many hours of work to keep this collection flying. This is as much as anyone could wish! Real flying history! This beautiful film was obviously done with great care and expertise. To see and hear the development of flight like this is wonderful. Please give us more!!!
This a long video but well worth your time. It is, quite simply, the best antique aircraft video I have ever seen. Excellent photography. Excellent sound.
Absolutely love it! What a wonderful trip into the past! Superb handling of the planes and i'm sure the pilots flying them must be thrilled! Coming back to Earth must have been a downer!
It is great to see the evolution of aviation technology through flying aircraft. I soloed at age 16 in a 40 hp Taylorcraft. After the Korean I became an Aeronautical Engineer and was involved in the development of the F-4 ,T-38 , F-15 ,F-16 ,B-1 ,B-2,and F-22. I am 86 and still flying.
I've just discovered this video and thoroughly enjoyed it. Brings back many happy memories of my flying time in a Tiger Moth. Learned to fly on this type and did my first solo then went on to obtain my Private Pilot's Licence! Flew Piper Colts and Cessna 150 but you can't beat the good old Tiger Moth.
Excellent camera work and sound, fantastic collection of aircraft beautifully demonstrated and the Shuttleworth Collection is a wonderful institution. Thank you for a very happy hour and I look forward to visiting the museum again on a flying day when the current covid 19 epidemic is beaten..
As a model maker, it was a real pleasure for me to see all the Norstagoic planes in their element. I'm totally amazed, but I'm afraid that my lifetime won't be enough to recreate all these beautiful planes 😍
What a beautiful collection. Which I could afford to visit the U.K. to see it. Truly magnificent. I learned a lot in this video. I never knew Avro had a tri-plane. I have since read that only one was built and used as a trainer, and that this replica was used in the film ' Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines'. I had never heard of the Bristol M.1. Most of these were used in the Middle East, not the Western front. The AVRO 504 was the most built plane from that period, with production continuing into 1940's. More than 10,000 were built. The DH88 is the earliest monoplane I had ever seen that looked like it would fit in with most WWII aircraft. Its a racing plane.
OK OK... THIS IS NUTS. Speed passes in a 1916 Sopwith Camel with 3 cloth wings. This guys whole body is smiling. Best airshow I’ve ever seen. Thanks to all.

Love that Deperdussan, in fact all of those early pre-war birds. Then there is the great leap forward with the early WW1 planes. Towards the end of the war they seem to be much smoother fying. Then the Hurricane and the Spitfire came along at the right time for the second WW. Agood airshow all 'round.
